Nanette “Nan” Doyle Raymer, age 50 of Cave City, peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. The Barren County native was born on September 3, 1973 to the late Royndal Thomas Doyle and Shirley Smith Doyle, who survives.
Nan was a member of Basil Chapel United Baptist Church. She was a 1991 graduate of Caverna High School, and went on to receive her masters degree from Western Kentucky University. She was a member of the Kentucky Education Association, as well as the Kentucky Music Educators Association. The Lord graciously blessed her with musical gifts, and she shared her talents with the children of Edmonson and Barren Counties. In recent years, she taught art and music at Kyrock Elementary. Besides her mother, Shirley, she leaves to honor her memory-- her beloved sons, Ben, Blake and Bryce Raymer all of Sweeden; her sisters, Theresa Jones (David) of Horse Cave and Marcia Payne (Tommy) of Bon Ayr; an aunt, Doris Ward, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members whom she adored. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Willie and Beulah Doyle and Leonard and Pearlie Smith. Nan wanted to help others in need, just as she had been helped. The Chicago native was a factory worker, a CAN, a janitor and a member of Combs Lane Baptist Church in Scottsville. She was a daughter of the late Robert Lee Williamson and Jo Ann Cliff Williamson. Born on May 5th, 1959, Lesia brought boundless love, warmth, and wisdom into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with open arms and a hug. She leaves a legacy of compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those she loved. A native of Brownsville, KY, Lisa was a beacon of kindness and generosity. Her nurturing spirit and selfless love knew no bounds, and she touched the lives of countless individuals with her grace and compassion. She created a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories for all who entered. An avid advocate for family and close friendships, Lesia, was always seeking ways to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Her tireless dedication to uplifting those in need served as an inspiration to many, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Malesia Ann Simpkins is survived by her loving family, her partner Jim Fuller, her children, Christopher D. Poteet and Joshua K. Simpkins, and her brother William (Bill) Poteet. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Reva Poteet. Anyone who knew Lesia is aware that she would not want anyone to mourn her and that this is just a shell covering her true self. Bill Holsinger, age 86 of Cave City, departed this life on January 1, 2024 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Pike County native was born on September 23, 1937 to the late Garland and Mary Ridenour Holsinger. He was married for sixty-one years to the love of his life, Daisy Smith Holsinger, who survives.
Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was of the Baptist faith. He worked at Mammoth Cave National Park as a supervisor, owner of Save-A-Lot and owner of Holsinger Reality and Construction. Besides his wife, Daisy, he leaves to honor his memory-- his son, David Holsinger (Dennise) of Cave City; grandchildren Charlie Holsinger, Dusty Hood, Tyler Lambirth and Whitney Furlong (Chris); great-grandson, Eli Walden; sister, Areta Hatfield and several nieces and nephews. The Edmonson County native was born on June 23, 1929 to the late Herbert P. and Delphia L. Wolfe Slaughter. She was married for seventy-years to her devoted husband and help mate, Junior Parsley, until they were parted by his death on January 27, 2019.
Vernetia retired after working many years at Eaton Corporation. She was a member of Beaver Dam United Baptist Church, and when her health permitted, she loved preparing Sunday meals for the men of God and her family. She also loved traveling across the United States, and had visited the forty-eight contiguous states. Marie had 17 grandchildren. He was a son of the late J.T. Roll and Oma Pauline Cox Roll. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Roll and Clarence Roll. The Edmonson County native was a 1963 graduate of Western Kentucky University and was a Community Action Services Coordinator for 40 years. She was the daughter of the late Noah Van Meter and Hilda Nelson Van Meter. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack “J.C.” Van Meter. No public services will be held at this time. Surviving are a brother, Kaye Don Van Meter (Jenell); two nephews, Jason Van Meter (Donna) and Shane Miller; three nieces, Kim Miller (Bill), Lisa Van Meter, and Dawn Beckley. Jannie Lou Campbell, age 72 of Brownsville, departed this life on Christmas day, Monday, December 25, 2023 at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. The Edmonson County native was born on November 12, 1951 to the late Elmer and Erma Dean Hogan. She was married to her husband and best friend, Owen Wayne Campbell, until they were parted by his death on January 30, 2019.
Jannie retired from Family Dollar after working for many years as an assistant store manager. She was a member of Oak Grove United Baptist Church. Jannie had a kind and gentle demeanor. She truly loved her family, and loved their times spent together. The Winterhaven, FL native was a son to the late Russell and Ada Baughman Linger. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carolyn Barksdale Linger; daughter, Lauren Lundeen; and was the last of the five Linger siblings.
Mr. Linger served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech University and later received a Certificate of the Management Development Program from the Emory School of Business Administration. He was an Aeronautical Engineer and retired from NASA and was a member of Smiths Grove Methodist Church. He is survived by his children, Mary Linger, Matthew Linger and Christy Allen (Dean); grandchildren, Daniel Dixon (Brittany) and John Lundeen; great-grandchildren, Sofia Dixon and Kingsley Dixon; several nieces and nephews. Edwin Dale “Bobby” Orton, 93 of Lexington passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
The Burkesville, Kentucky, native was a son of the late David Orton and Edythe Allen Orton. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Elvira Denney Orton; a daughter, Sandra Adwell and his six siblings. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Bobby joined the Kentucky Department of Highways. Upon his retirement from the Highway Department in 1988, he joined the City of Lexington Engineering Department, where he retired in 2002. Bobby loved U K Basketball, gardening, and telling stories to his McDonald’s group. He volunteered with the Special Olympics and the National Kidney Foundation. He was a member of Central Christian Church of Lexington, the UK Wildcat Club, the F.R.E.A.K.S. Social Club, and co-president of the Sheldon Club. Leaving to cherish his memory is his wife of 36 years, Margaret Orton; two daughters, Barbara Jean Orton Roy (Tony) and Sherrie Lane Orton Sheets (Todd); two step-sons, Ronnie Adwell (Shelly) and James Thomas Adwell; seven grandchildren: Devin Orton, Garrett Cross, Alex Adwell (Amanda), Caroline Simpson, Anne Simpson, Brooke Ingram (Josh), and Brittany White; two great grandchildren, Onyx Adwell and Cooper Ingram; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Alice Meredith, age 77 of Brownsville, departed this life on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at her residence, with her loved ones by her side. The Warren County native was born on September 20, 1946 to the late Earl Dickens and Rosie Abrams. She was married to Estell Leon “E.L.” Meredith, until they were parted by his death on October 14, 1987.
Alice worked for years at Holley Carburetor, then later worked at other factories in the area. She was saved at Wingfield United Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was being a Mammie to her babies. When not working she was a homemaker who enjoyed being surrounded by her family, cooking meals for them and spending time with her grandchildren. She was of the Christian faith, and a member of Fairview Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. Eunice is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers: Roger G. Doyle and Charles Doyle; and a great grandchild, Nathan Lyons.

Danielle was a 1994 graduate of Edmonson County High School, and obtained her masters degree from Western Kentucky University. She worked for Warren County Public Schools at Warren Central High School as an English as a Second Language Teacher. Danielle loved her school kids, and they adored her. She was saved as a young girl at Wingfield United Baptist Church, where she was a member. In recent years, she attended Crossland Community Church. She loved spending valued time with her family, friends, and her precious fur babies. She loved the outdoors, and watching the horse races at Keeneland. Flora is survived by her daughter, Teresa Madison; Granddaughter, Ronna Booker; Grandson, Ryan Booker and his wife Leigh. She leaves seven great grandchildren: Caitlan, Hunter, Spencer, Madi, Ryleigh, Desi and Evan; and three great great grandchildren, Maddox, Larkin & Elijah. She is also survived by her sister, Elsie Johnson; sister-in-law, Alma Martin; and special friend & neighbor, Dan Abell. He was born on January 6, 1937 to the late William “Willie” and Mary Ann Crowley Dunning. He was married to the love of his life, Brenda Keith Dunning, until they were parted by her passing on February 15, 2015.
Paul retired as a supervisor from Verizon, as well as owned Dunning Communications. He was a member of New Liberty Methodist Church, and Washington Meredith Lodge #355 F&AM. Stevie retired from General Electric, where he worked for thirty-six years in manufacturing and as a safety inspector. He was saved as a twelve-year-old boy at Union Light Missionary Baptist Church, and remained a member there until his passing. Stevie was also a member of the IUE-CWA Local 83761 Union. He thoroughly enjoyed working on antique cars, attending car shows and riding his Harley Davidson with his wife. His greatest love was spending valued time with his family. Besides his wife, Karen, he leaves to honor his memory— his daughters, Stephanie Wilson and Rachel Wilson both of Louisville; three grandchildren, Sadie, Keelan and Mylie Hall; five siblings, Robert Wilson (Bobbie), Randall Wilson (Mary Lou), Ray Wilson (Doris), Estel Wilson (Paula) and Patty Dennis (Bennie) and sister-in-law, Becky Wilson. The Indianapolis native was a disabled auto mechanic. He was a son of the late Verbie Lillian Sowders and the step son of the late Leonard Hampton. Visitation services will be held 1-4 PM Wednesday at Gravil Funeral Home. No other services are scheduled. Surviving are a son, James Matthew Sowders (Brigid) of Ft. Worth, TX; two daughters, Andrea Nicole Boswell (Joshua) of Roundhill and Samantha Sowders of Brownsville; two sisters, Shirley Cunningham (Charles) of Monticello, AR and Patsy Highbaugh of Brownsville; a brother, Jackie Sowders (Wendy) of Windyville; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Michael Alvin Bledsoe, 75, of Pine Grove passed away Dec. 15, 2023 at his home.
The Edmonson County native was a disabled farmer and saw mill worker. He was a son of the late Harley Bledsoe and Earline Hawks Bledsoe. He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Matthew Bledsoe. No public services are scheduled. Gravil funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Surviving are four children, Jeffrey Bledsoe, Craig Bledsoe (Dana) and Kristin Hinton all of Bowling Green and Lynn Bledsoe of Smiths Grove; two siblings, Ronnie Bledsoe of Wingfield and Judy Bledsoe of Bowling Green; 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Peggy Elaine Miller, 54, of Munfordville passed away Dec. 9, 2023 at her home.
The Edmonson County native was a 1987 graduate of ECHS, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with degrees in Police Administration and Psychology and was a prison system corrections officer. She was a daughter of the late Randell Lee Miller and Mary Linda Fulkerson of Munfordville, who survives. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will take place 3-7 PM Wednesday and after 10:00 AM Thursday. Also surviving are four children, Beth Chenault (Derrick) of Rocky Hill, Matthew Chenault (Kim) of Hurricane, WV, Brittany Evans of Frankfort and Emily Iverson (Josh) of Versailles; eight grandchildren, Randi Lynn Chenault, Sarah Lancaster, Jasmine Lancaster, Lexi Lancaster, Samantha Chenault, Annabelle Chenault, Owen Chenault and Grant Iverson; two brothers; and several nieces and nephews. C.D. Church, age 92, of Cave City, KY departed this life on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at The Medical Center at Caverna. The Luxora, Arkansas native was born on February 23, 1931, to the late Frank Roy and Lilly Dhority Church. He was married to his beloved wife of 69 years, Helen Miller Church, who survives.
C.D. served our country in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years, and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retirement from the military, he started working at Mammoth Cave National Park. While he was there, he worked in maintenance, ran the Mammoth Cave Ferry and later retired. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and of the Christian faith. C.D. enjoyed being around people. He could be found at many community gatherings and always had a good story to tell. His quick wit was always enjoyed by those he shared his stories and laughter with. Besides his wife, Helen, he leaves to honor his memory— his sons, Steven Church, Randall Kevin Church (Mary Ann), Perry Church (Maria) and Russell Church; son-in-law, Tony O’Malley; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy O’Malley. No services have been scheduled at this time. Hayes, age 83 of Sweeden, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at The Hospice House in Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on October 21, 1940 to the late Raymond W. and Maxine Ashley Hayes. He was married for 65 years to his devoted, loving wife Marilyn Davis Hayes, who survives.
Charles founded Hayes Insurance Agency in Brownsville, Glasgow, and Elizabethtown, where he served his community for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church. Besides his wife, Marilyn, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Danny Hayes (Pat) of Brownsville, Jeff Hayes of Brownsville, and Dr. Anna Leigh Hayes of Sweeden; grandchildren, Ray Smith (Emily), Lindsay Mencer, Nick Smith (Toni), Lauren Black (Josh), Noah Powell, Leilani Powell, Lake Powell, River Powell, and Ella Mae Powell; five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Peggy Priddy and Alan Hayes. Interment will be in Sweeden Cemetery. The Edmonson County native was a 1966 graduate of ECHS and was a mechanical engineer for Detrex, Pan Oston and Halton. He was a son of the late John Norman Spainhoward Sr. and Flora Marie Lindsey Spainhoward. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Spainhoward, Richard Spainhoward, and Danny Spainhoward. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Monday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will take place 12-7 PM Sunday and after 9:00 AM Monday.
