Darren Doyle, story: Edmonson County saw its highest amount of active COVID cases today at 92, according to the data released by the Barren River District Health Department. This tops the previous number of 91 that was reported on Friday, November 20th. Total cases in the county are now at 609 with 504 recoveries and 13 deaths reported as of today's available data. Active cases rose in the county by around 30 since last week. The jump also bumped the county up one spot on the list of both active and total cases in the district. Edmonson held the lowest numbers of each for several months but that now belongs to Metcalfe County with 609 cases, 520 recoveries, and 10 deaths for an active number of 79. Statewide, 114 out of 120 counties were listed in the "red zone," and only one county not orange or red.
Edmonson County Schools are scheduled to resume in-person classes on Monday, January 11th. Governor Andy Beshear postponed a State of the Commonwealth address that was scheduled for today in lieu of the protesting and violence that occurred at the U.S. Capitol today in Washington, D.C.. “Based on the events at our nation’s Capitol, the Senate President, Speaker of the House and I have jointly agreed to delay the joint session for the State of the Commonwealth and the Budget address to 7 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 7," he said. "We all recognize the gravity of this situation.”
