Active COVID Cases In Edmonson Reach All-Time High, Fiscal Court Will Meet Virtually Next Week

Active COVID cases have reached an all-time high in Edmonson County, according to the most recent data from the Barren River District Health Department, which has prompted Edmonson County Fiscal Court to revert to their virtual video and audio meetings.

Active cases in the county were at 123 on February 2, 2021, which was at the height of the pandemic, especially locally, before now. Tuesday's numbers released from the BRDHD showed 1261 total confirmed positive Edmonson County cases from the start of the pandemic in March 2020, with 1110 confirmed recoveries. Total deaths attributed to COVID in Edmonson County were listed at 24, leaving the number of active positive cases within the county at 133. 

Nearly half of the deaths recorded from the virus in Edmonson County were listed as residents of Genesis Healthcare, Edmonson Center more than a year ago.

The BRDHD also provided the percentages of county residents who have received vaccinations for COVID-19, which is 33.39% of the entire population, 39.58% of those 18 or older, and 46.44% of those age 65 or older.

Edmonson County ranks the lowest in the entire Barren River Health District, which has a total population of around 277,000 in number of total cases and deaths contributed to the virus. The rank third from the bottom regarding total population vaccination percentage just above Metcalfe and Hart Counties.
