Brownsville Utility Pole Crash Results in Detour, Power and Service Outages

A portion of South Main Street in Brownsville was closed this morning, and remains closed at the the time of this article, after a collision involving a pickup truck and a utility pole.

Emergency responders were paged out to the scene near Mohawk Center on Main Street around 9AM this morning to the report of the crash with multiple lines on the ground.

According to the Edmonson County Sheriff's Office, Christopher Mudd, (50) of Bee Spring was traveling south on Main Street in a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup. The Sheriff's Office stated that Mudd told law enforcement that he experienced an issue with his steering and his truck left the right side of the roadway where he collided head on with a utility pole. 

The pole carried electric and communication lines. 

According to the Sheriff's Office, Mudd was transported to the hospital by Edmonson EMS for non life-threatening injuries.

Power was restored around 2PM to the area. No info was available on communication lines in the vicinity.

Traffic was detoured up Washington Street and around the square, as well as through West Center Street around Mohawk Street.

The pole snapped in half with most all the lines remaining attached part of the pole, which landed on Mudd's truck. There were no injuries or fires due to live wires, according to those on scene.

Also responding was Brownsville Police, Brownsville Fire Department, Edmonson County Emergency Management, WRECC, KY Dept. of Transportation (Edmonson), and multiple communication companies.
