Gary Lynn Highbaugh, 63, of Nolin Dam Road, faces charges of 2nd degree assault, 1st degree possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication, and 1st degree trafficking of a controlled substance after he was arrested yesterday. The Edmonson County Sheriff's Department said Highbaugh was accused of entering the Bee Spring Restaurant while intoxicated and began threatening one of the customers, Dickie Saltsman of Bee Spring. He then allegedly assaulted Mr. Saltsman with a pocketknife, cutting his arm. Police also said some other customers dragged Highbaugh away from Saltsman and Highbaugh then left the scene.
Police then later found Highbaugh at his home, where he admitted to being in an altercation with Saltsman at the restaurant earlier. The Sheriff's Department said Highbaugh then resisted arrest and upon further search, found Highbaugh with two unmarked bottles of pills. He was lodged in the Hart County Jail.
