Local school officials are in shock after learning of the sudden unexpected death of Edmonson County Middle School Teacher Dwayne Clark in the early hours of Saturday morning. No further information of the incident is available at this time.

Superintendent of Edmonson County Schools Patrick Waddell said that Mr. Clark had been a teacher at ECMS for the past 3 years and had taught at South Edmonson Elementary for 12 years prior to that. "We're deeply saddened to hear the news that Mr. Clark has passed," Waddell said. "This is just very hard. He touched the lives of many students, staff, and community members."

ECMS Principal Brandon Prunty said much of the same. "We are all extremely saddened by Mr. Clark's passing," he said in a statement. "Along with district support, we are making plans to have additional counselors at school on Monday to help students and teachers deal with this tragedy."

Funeral arrangements have not been made. We will have updates as they become available.

"The entire community is in mourning because of this tragedy," added Mr. Waddell. "Not only was he a teacher here, but also my friend."

I want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and kind words. My whole life has been shaken. My poor children will live without their daddy. My grand babies will never meet the man who would idolize them. My beautiful daughters who are getting married won't have their precious Daddy to walk them down that long aisle. I am ripped apart and my heart is shattered in a million pieces. Thankful for all of my teacher community, parents and students. He will be missed and loved everyday of our life.
We were not treated with much respect after my husbands accident. We were made to sit in the cold rain staring at the very site my husband possibly took his last breath and told me he loved me. He was crying my name but I to sit and be interrogated by state troopers. I was actually acted like a human by two of them. I was a prisoner in my home while my husband lay dying by himself. I understand procedures people, but when the man you have been with for 25 years is about to die. You don't want to be with your son, mother in law, and family friend in the pouring rain. I am very disappointed in how things were handled. I pray mercy on your souls.

Vickie, I knew Dewayne 30 years ago. I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am. He was such a wonderful person. No one could possibly imagine what you and your family are going through. My prayers are with you all.

I am so very sorry. Mr Clark had my 3 granddaughters and they loved him very much. I am appalled that you wasn't allowed to be by your husband's side while he was dying. Any questions could have waited. What a shame. My heart breaks for you and your family. I will
be praying for you as will many others in our community.

The one thing that seems to be absent in officer training is COMPASSION. There is NO excuse for keeping a wife from her husband. NONE. If they indeed did this, they overstepped the lines of civilians' rights. Unless someone is a suspect, he/she does not have to obey the "will" of law enforcement. They know this, but they don't share it because it "slows and complicates" their investigation.

Your grief was unnecessarily doubled because, instead of compassion, you were treated with indifference.

My heart goes out to you and your family. May you find comfort in those who love you. And may apologies be swift and forthcoming.

my dad is your neighbor, Clevie. He always talks about your family, especially your husband and son. He is so appreciative of you and how you've been so good to help him and check on him when he went through the wreck, surgery and following days. Please let him help you now when possible. Thank you

Mr. Clark was my favorite teacher and better yet, he was my bestest friend and I remember in South Edmonson in P.E he always made sure I had fun and I got my exercise and in middle school this year once I heard I got him as my math teacher, I was so happy and he always helped me with my math and any problems I needed help with. And once I heard he passed away, I literally dropped. Monday will be a long day for me I can see it now, but at least he's with God and he's happy up in Heaven. I miss him dearly, but one day I'll see him again! I'll make sure you and your family are in my prayers and my church's prayers. 🙏🏻

Dewayne was a very kind, wonderful person. He was my dads neighbor & friend. He was always there for us when dad was sick and was always ready to help when needed. We had some nice
visits with Dewayne and considered him our friend.
We will miss him and hope God will give everyone the peace in our hearts and help ease the pain of losing Dewayne
