Fiscal Court Recap: May 23, 2022

There were no major discussions at today's fiscal court meeting. Various reports were given by county offices, including:

• Road Report: County Road Supervisor Greg Carroll reported that crews repaired a flooding problem on Johnson Road,  a second sinkhole on E Cook Road, and fixed some other minor issues.
  
• EM Director Report: Terry Massey reported that there were two fires since the last fiscal court meeting, one apartment fire in Bear Creek, and a field fire caused by lightning. He discussed concerns of a poor response to the fire in the Bear Creek District that started as a lawnmower fire, then progressed to a grass, then structure fire. There was a short conversation but no actions or solutions were discussed.
  
• County Clerk: County Clerk Kevin Alexander reported that the county had a 31% voter turnout. He also said the new voting machines recently purchased by the county worked great. There was one small issue with a machine in Rocky Hill, but was fixed easily and quickly.
  
• Parks & Rec: A.B. Webb announced the date for the upcoming Freedom Fest, which is Friday, July 1st. He encouraged everyone to come out and watch the little league awards ceremony, and said there will be fireworks afterwards as usual.
  
• Tourism: Vanessa Ulm reported that Edmonson County Tourism received a permit to put up signs that locate the blue way trails, which would direct people who come into the county to use the trails in the direction they need to go. The signs will be placed at four different locations, including the Brownsville Boat Ramp, Green River Lock 6, Houchin Ferry, and Nolin Tail Water. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 3rd, 2022.
  

The fiscal court also voted to

• Approve Excellance, Inc. Purchase Agreement-ARPA Funds 2022 Ambulance
  
• Acknowledge Mike Stoyonovich being inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame
  
• Approve to appoint Phillip Coleman to Board of Assessment Appeals for a 3 year term. Term runs 5/28/2022- 5/28/2025.
  
• Approve Reappointment of Sherri Forester to Public Library Board of Trustees for a 4 year term. Term runs 6/30/2022-6/30/2026.
• Approve Reappointment of Linda Lindsey to Public Library Board of Trustees for a 4 year term. Term runs 6/30/2022- 6/30/2026.
• Approve Reappointment of Ray Willhite to Recreation Tax Committee Board for a 2 year term. Term runs 6/1/2022- 6/1/2024.

Judge Executive Wil Cannon reported that the upcoming Memorial Day Ceremony is this Saturday, May 28, 2022 in the court yard. He invited and encouraged everyone who can to come.

The next fiscal court meeting will be held Monday, June 13, 2022
