Local Family Resource Center Heading Up Relief Effort For Family's Loss After Wednesday Fire2/1/2018 Second Fire in Edmonson County In One Day Darren Doyle, story and photos: Although the basic structure was saved, thanks to firefighters' efforts, a local family is in need after a house fire in the 600 block of Henry Meredith Road. The Wingfield, Chalybeate, Rocky Hill, and Brownsville Fire Departments responded around 5pm on January 31, 2018 to what was first paged out as a field fire with burning hay. According to emergency radio traffic, the call was updated to inform that the field fire had now spread to the house. For the most part, firefighters were able to keep the structure standing but most everything inside was lost of heavily damaged from smoke and water. The South Edmonson and EC 5/6 Center Family Resources have reported that the family living in the home are in immediate need. They are in search of the following items:
There is also a need for hygiene products, paper products, cleaning supplies, etc. Monetary donations will go to purchase other items needed, according to the FRC. It was the second major fire in Edmonson County in one day. Earlier, firefighters and the U.S. Forestry Service battled a field fire off of J. O. Davis Road in Brownsville that reportedly burned over 20 acres.
