Moriah Peterson, story and photos: (m.peterson@edmonsonvoice.com) For the first time in years, a Christmas tree lighting took place on the Square Friday evening, December 1st. A live tree was purchased by Tourism from Creekside Nursery in Chalybeate. This planted tree will be cared for year round and will be decorated and lit every year for Christmas. Bob Kleier of Tourism had the honor of lighting the tree this year. Locals have probably noticed all the lights and decorations on the square. Decorations were provided by the City of Brownsville, The local Chamber provided the lights, and the Great Onyx Job Corps. provided the labor as the decorations were set up. After the tree lighting free hot cocoa and cider were provided for refreshment. “Our main focus is community involvement, we want to provide activities for everyone as often as we can” said Greg Hudson of Parks and Rec. Parks and Rec has several free Christmas events coming up the next few weeks. All these events will be held at the Community Center which has been beautifully decorated for Christmas by Parks and Rec.
A free 2018 Parks and Recreation brochure with all the dates of events for the upcoming year are available at the Edmonson County Public Library.
