Darren Doyle, story:
The Edmonson County Sheriff's Office has released a list of potential road safety checkpoints in the county for the summer season.
"With summer time arriving, so will the frequency of DUI arrests," the Sheriff's Office said in a written statement. "The Sheriff's Office may also be assisted by other agencies in these road safety check points including, but not limited to, The Kentucky State Police, Ky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, Brownsville Police Department, and National Park Service Rangers. The Edmonson County Sheriff's Office wants everyone to enjoy summertime and holiday weekends, but is urging people not to drink and drive."
Mammoth Cave National Park law enforcement officers will also be conducting periodic sobriety and safety checkpoints on park roadways for the remainder of 2021 to identify drivers who may be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol (DUI). The special law enforcement operations are being conducted to reduce the incidence of DUIs and to increase public awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving.
"Rangers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily," said a statement from MCNP.
