Former Bowling Green Ophthalmologist and current United States Senator Rand Paul held a press conference at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville today to announce his candidacy for president in the 2016 election. ![]() Paul, a tea-party favorite, said he wanted to focus his campaign on restoring freedoms back to Americans, controlling U.S. debt, common sense government, and jobs for anyone that was willing to work. He also said one of his goals was to make sure our children had the same opportunities that he and his generation had. He addressed radical Islam being an enemy to America and said that we must defend ourselves against it. Paul joins the race along with Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Other republicans that are formally exploring a candidacy are Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Ben Carson, George Pataki, Lindsey Graham, Donald Trump, Rick Perry, and Scott Walker. Current democratic candidates are former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley and former US Senator from Virginia Jim Webb. Other potential candidates are Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Andrew Cuomo, Al Gore, and several more. Paul began practicing ophthalmology in Bowling Green in 1993 at Downing McPeak Vision Center, then worked at Graves Gilbert Clinic for a number of years. After that, he opened his own practice that was eventually merged with Dr. John Downing's office when Paul was elected to the US Senate. Edmonson Voice Staff

The freedoms we once held dear have been eroded so badly by the current administration it will take a staunch Constitutional Conservative such as Dr Paul to get them back. Godspeed Rand, Godspeed.
