Sheriff's Office Investigating Burglaries In Cave Hollow Bay Area, Requesting Help

Edmonson Voice Staff Report
Sheriff Shane Doyle said a string of break-ins and burglaries have recently plagued the Cave Hollow Bay area and the suspect seems to stay just out of reach.

"We are almost positive that we know who is doing this, but almost won't cut it," Doyle said. "The burglaries are happening overnight and on properties where no one is home or at seasonal homes. Most of the items taken are food and alcohol."

Doyle said that even though the majority of items stolen are not of high value, it's still a serious crime. "Everyone has the right to keep their property safe. We encourage neighbors to be aware of anything that seems off or suspicious activity around vacant properties and trailers with no one inside."

Doyle said what has made it even more frustrating is that people are calling in the next day and saying things like "I saw this guy walking around last night" or "That guy looked like he was up to something."

"If something doesn't seem right, it's probably not and you need to call dispatch right then, not the next day or sometime later," Doyle said. "If you wait until then, it's going to be too late, and it could even be your own property."

He also reminded everyone to contact the Edmonson County Dispatch Center at 270-597-2729, NOT the sheriff's office. In the event of an emergency, dial 911.

Someone stole my chainsaw and a welder out of my garage. I do not call this Not of much value as the sheriff said. I had just bought the welder. Then you see well known thieves( that the Sherrif's office is supposed to be looking for) walking up and down the street. Why is it the residents see them but the law officers can't find them? What a joke!!! Chloie Day

I have just sent a comment in regarding break-ins at my home. I don't expect it to be printed because its not what you want to hear. I understand.

We had our home broken into in 2006 and here it is 10 years later and they still haven't caught the thieves. Who ever broken in drank some from several glasses so the state trooper who came out lifted several prints off the glasses. As of today we still don't know who they are but we were told by the trooper that they had a pretty good idea as to who was behind all the burglaries. Hopefully they will find the thieves and finally put an end to all the break ins. I know that I'll never see my grandmothers gold plated flatware again. The thieves even broke the top off my late Morhers urn thinking that there may be something inside. Needless to say they even spilled some of her ashes. So please if anyone sees anything or anybody that looks or acts a little strange call 911.
