Whatabouter Mongoose,
I go to a church here in the county where we have some pretty solid deacons. One is known for being a little stubborn and he's not afraid to voice his opinion on anything, whether it's popular or not. He's what you'd call a sure enough "old school" guy. He's often saying what does or doesn't belong in a church house and I've never had a problem with it. What I do have a problem with is, his wife's cell phone goes off all the time during church. When it happens, he pretends like he doesn't notice, or might even smile a little bit. If this was anybody else, he'd make a big stink over it, I guarantee it. Everybody's afraid to say something about it...what would you do? From: "No Service" Dear No Service, According to ole King James, a deacon should be the husband of one wife and rule their house. There is no mention of cell phones in the scriptures, but this situation creates a quandary: if said deacon rules his house, he should rule that his wife shut her phone off-- or better yet, leave it at home. Unless you are the only doctor on call in the state, or are expecting God to call, there's no reason a cell phone should enter into the church house. The quandary is created when Mrs. Deacon is called out (pun intended) for ringing up heaven. This could disqualify Mr. Deacon (due to the 'husband of the one wife' clause) if she doesn't take it well. We'll see ya, Mongoose
