Hey Mongoose,
My daughter is a 7th grader who makes good grades, is fairly popular, and is an overall good kid. Some of her closest friends are simply spoiled rotten. They go to every ballgame/event happening, they all have the latest iPhones, some even "date" boys in high school. My daughter thinks my husband and I are the worst parents ever because she doesn't get to experience these things yet. Since this is what all the other kids experience, should we be more open to them or should we stick to our methods, even though it seems to be driving our daughter away from us? Dear Uncool Mom, First world problems, no worry about eating this week, finding water suitable to drink or hiding from the military regime that just took over your village, 7th grade is tough. There isn't an adult alive today that thought his/her parents weren't evil dictators, spitefully withholding the latest gadget, fashion or permission to participate in whatever the cool kids are doing. When her friends are starring in "Teen Mom" or using their one phone call, she will appreciate your parenting. She's your kid, there's no guarantee how she'll turn out whether you spoil her not but at least you can say you tried, unless you're locking her in a closet, she'll come around. We'll See Ya, Mongoose
