Mongoose,
I wanted to share an experience I had the other day and get your take on it. I was in the Dollar Store in Chalybeate waiting in the check out line behind 5 or 6 people when the clerk announced the EBT cards weren't working. I am not exaggerating when I say 4 people in line dropped their items and left. I noticed through the doors the vehicles leaving, there wasn't a single one worth less than $10,000 in my opinion. I checked out and got in my 250,000 mile Nissan Sentra and headed home to get ready for work, ready to give my 2 weeks notice, I guess. Is it me or should I feel justified in my thinking what's the use? Dear Working Man's Blues, The trouble with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money, that's paraphrasing but Margaret Thatcher said that. Have you ever had a puppy? Ever tried to house train one? You've got two techniques, positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement--basically rewarding good behavior and punishing bad. If you continue to simply clean up after the little guy he'll continue to water and fertilize your carpet. Likewise, continuing handing out free everything to citizens perpetuates citizens to hold their hands out expecting hand outs. Meanwhile you and I pick up the tab or the dog doodie. From my view, I work hard, don't mind funding the military, police and infrastructure with my tax money, give plenty of money to charity, charities I've researched that line up with my convictions. However those that are able bodied and refuse to work at any pay level don't line up with my convictions. Now hang on, I know there are some good folks that need assistance in between jobs, but this program is being way overused and abused. Don't blame you for feeling the way you do, I feel the same way. Until there is a reason for folks to put their hands to working instead of swiping a card keep the carpet cleaner handy, we're gonna need a bunch of it.
