What about it mongoose,
I've noticed a trend over the past few years of some of Brownsville's most popular businesses have been sold to companies or people that don't live here. Business owners make our local economy and have influence. If this keeps up, Brownsville will be run by all outsiders...some of them so far have shown that their values are opposite of Edmonson County values. Is there anyway to stop this? Dear Brownsville Born N Bred, Years ago an influential Brownsville insider and I had an eye opening conversation, I asked him why Brownsville hadn't grown like some surrounding cities had. We have river access, close proximity to interstate highways, and an able-bodied workforce in which 80% drive to the next county to work. He proceeded to tell me that a group of influential Brownsville business folk made a conscious decision to stall growth and keep Brownsville in the hands of the select few. At one point there were new car dealerships and tractor dealerships in downtown Brownsville (look it up). In case you didn't notice, I am a capitalist through and through, if you'd like to keep Brownsville in the hands of Edmonson Countians, when one comes up for sale --buy it! Otherwise you can complain that "a bunch of foreigners came in and messed things up" in one breath, and complain "there's nothing here for me, guess I'll go to Bowling Green" in the next. You can't have your cake and eat it, too-- unless it's your cake and you own the factory. -MG
