Dear Mongoose,
I'm curious to see what you think about the black community getting all upset over only white people getting nominated for Oscars? Dear Affirmative Action Figure, For those of you with siblings, you can relate to this; having to apologize to your brother/sister for something you either didn't do or felt like they deserved it anyway. Was your apology heartfelt? Did it cause you to think about not doing it the next time? Did your 5 year old brother appreciate your apology? Probably not, which makes the forced apology worthless. If I were upset as some are with the lack of "diversity" of Oscar nominees, what is solved by these boycotts other than a result that would make me feel like a sibling receiving a forced apology? It's liken to winning a participation trophy for playing t-ball, "better give so-and-so one so they don't get upset" (or nowadays their crazy mother). If there is a concerted effort to exclude certain ethnicities, well, that's one thing--but I don't think there is. My suggestion is make good enough movies, do a good enough job acting, singing and dancing or whatever else to ensure you get nominated regardless of color, race, creed, orientation and all that jazz.
