Why Do Parents Not Understand School Drop-Off Lines?

3/8/2017

Hey Mongoose,
I drop my kids off every morning at South Edmonson. At least four days a week there's some genius who either parks at the front of the line or sits there getting little Johnny put together while traffic backs up to the road. The school says they can't do anything about it until the bell rings. Would you back me up if I pulled the next stupid mom holding up the line out of the car and spanked her tail?

Dear Sugar Ray Leonard,
Hey, Hey, woah, there...easy does it, champ. I feel your pain. I had the same gripes when I had kids in elementary school, but instead of opening doors and cans of whoop--well, you know...my suggestion is to start honking your horn. That really gets under people's skin, and it lets them know they need to hurry up. Unfortunately, many people simply don't understand the concept of drop-off lines. You pull up, car is still in gear, Johnny opens the door, you let him out, door shuts, you hit the gas and you're off. Should take 7 seconds or less, 10 seconds, max if there is some sort of backpack or coat malfunction. If you need to walk your child in, have a special needs child, or worried about them getting to their destination safely, then for goodness sake, park your vehicle IN A PARKING SPACE and walk them in yourself. By holding up the line you cause parents to dump their kids out in the middle of the lot which is an extremely dangerous place for them to be when you've got boxing champs and Nascar drivers ready to stomp it.

What if the child has a disability? You don't have any idea what might be happening inside the car. This is an incredibly rude answer because everyone doesn't live a perfect world.

So because one child has a disability its ok to stop the entire morning schedule of 50 other parents and students? the point of this is the entire purpose of the drop off line. its not intended for those who have special needs or other situations going on in a car. whats incredibly rude is for one person to think they're entitled to special treatment over everyone else. theres a big parking lot there for people who have special circumstances to go in and get out of the line. wow smh
