To all the friends of Jake Keith, On behalf of my Dad, Jake Keith, and the entire Keith Family, I wanted to personally thank each and every one of you for your support and prayers during our most difficult time. For all the phone calls, text messages, the food you prepared, to the hundreds and hundreds of people that came to pay their last respects to Dad. My Dad would have been so happy and proud of our little community for how you all came together and supported his family. He was very proud to be from Edmonson County and would have never lived anywhere else. He loved this county and all the people in it which is why he was always trying to help, whether it be donating money to a ball team or school event, or him and Uncle Rick donating their time to benefit auctions around the county. To know Jake Keith was to love him and he will truly be missed by not just his family but the many many friends he made through out his life here on this earth. Again we can’t say thank you enough for all your support and encouraging and comforting words and all you have done for our family. It will be a long tough road ahead for us but because of you all we will get through it until its our time to reunite with Dad in the streets of gold. Please keep my mother and the Keith Family in your prayers and may God bless each and everyone of you and show you his grace. Sincerely, Shawn Keith and The Keith Family Peytin Manor, story and photo:
On January 27, 2026, four Edmonson County FFA members were selected to attend the inaugural Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) Bus Trip with Kentucky FFA, scheduled for June 22–27, 2026. The ECHS students chosen for the expense-free opportunity included juniors Peytin Manor and Keylee Jurisich, along with sophomores Robert Keith and Jackson Haberman. According to junior ECHS FFA Treasurer Keylee Jurisich, “This is important to me because it will help me learn more about leadership and push me out of my shell to become more social. I struggle talking to new people. I’m hoping this conference will help me prepare for the future and figure out what I want to do with my life and where I want to go after high school.” These FFA members will have the opportunity to attend the Washington Leadership Conference located in Washington D.C. at no cost at all, where they will develop leadership skills, connect with FFA members from across the nation, and gain tools to create a meaningful impact in their community. This opportunity was granted by the Bill Gatton Foundation. This foundation is dedicated to honoring Bill Gatton’s legacy by supporting organizations that strengthen education, healthcare, and regional prosperity across Kentucky as well as regions of Tennessee and Virginia. Mr. Gage Tucker, Agricultural Education Teacher and FFA Advisor at ECHS, states, “Being able to attend WLC at no out of pocket expense is an amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity for our students! These FFA members will be able to develop advocacy and leadership skills that will have a direct and lasting impact on our community. I am very excited for them and could not be more proud of their hard work and dedication to FFA and Edmonson County.” Darren Doyle, story: Gabe DeArmond, photos: Members of the 1976 KHSAA Boys' Basketball Edmonson County Wildcat State Championship team were honored last night at ECHS in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of their monumental achievement. Along with former players, cheerleaders, management, and the wife of former Head Coach Bo Davenport, Mary Frances Davenport was also recognized. The team is said to have "saved the Sweet Sixteen," by being a small school to win a single class, statewide tournament format. Kentucky is only one of two states in America to still have a single class system. The other, Delaware, is changing formats to a multi-class system after next season, which will leave Kentucky as the sole state to continue the format. A reception was also held in their honor at ECHS, sponsored by Rafferty's.
In addition, Edmonson County High School was designated as a "Glory Road" location, which recognizes and honors the many gymnasiums and games across Kentucky that have historical significance in the development of the cultural phenomenon of Kentucky high school basketball. The Glory Road designation was made available much in part from Edmonson County native Scott Lindsey, Vice President of Rafferty's Restaurants. Lindsey paved the way for a similar memorial plaque as pictured above to be placed at Edmonson County High School. A plaque was presented to Edmonson County High School by Raffery's Vice President and Edmonson native Scott Lindsey and received by ECHS Principal Jonathan Williams, Barry Rich, former board member that made the call to Coach Davenport to let him know of his Edmonson hiring, and Mrs. Davenport, in honor of Coach. The project honors iconic gymnasiums along with the schools and communities that built them and are designed to highlight longstanding rivalries across Kentucky, along with notable teams throughout the history of high school basketball teams in Kentucky. Even though the current gym at ECHS was not the home site for the 1976 KY State Champion Wildcats, Edmonson County received the honor due to the impact of not only the '76 team, but also other state powerhouse teams from Edmonson County in previous years.
