ECHS Sophomore Ally Browning is set to compete in a national career conference in Indianapolis.
Edmonson Voice Report:
Edmonson County High School sophomore Ally Browning is heading to Indianapolis to compete in the National Career Development Conference hosted by Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG).

She will compete in the area of Employability Skills, which consists of effectively answering various interview questions. She is scored on skills such as verbal and non-verbal communication, professionalism, poise, & how she closes the interview process.

Ally won the region in February and finished third at the state conference in March. She will be one of a selected few Kentucky JAG students to compete against other top performers from other states across the country.

ECHS JAG teacher Kyle Pierce says Ally has greatly improved over the course of the year.

“Ally broke out of her comfort zone early in the year and improved her social skills," he said. "We do various projects in class that help students break the ice and she just took off from there. She has put in a lot of practice and effort to prepare. We are all proud of her for advancing this far.”

Ally is the daughter of Justin & Julie Browning of Lindseyville.

The conference will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana, the largest hotel of its brand in the world.

"All three of these students went through a rigorous application and selection process and ECHS is very proud of each of them," ECHS said in a released statement.

Preston Doyle and Brayden Johnson were both accepted into the Governor’s Scholars Program.  These students were selected from among 1,639 outstanding young Kentuckians from across the state.  Brayden and Preston will take part in a five-week program at one of three colleges that includes Centre College, Morehead State University, and Murray State University.

Preston is the son of Shane and Jessica Doyle of Chalybeate.  Brayden is the son of Brad and Jodi Johnson of Bee Spring and was also the first student from ECHS to be accepted into the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs in 2024.

Kennedy Webb was accepted into the Governor’s School for the Arts.  Kennedy was selected from among 1,350 applicants to attend GSA as a student in Vocal Music during the first session of the summer program at the University of Kentucky.  GSA seeks to find Kentucky high school sophomores and juniors with skill in their art form, passion for creativity, an open mind, collaborative spirit, and an eagerness for learning.

Kennedy is the daughter of Joey and Dee Dee Webb of Brownsville.

"All of these students will not only participate in these programs this summer, but will also qualify for future scholarships at many in-state colleges/universities," the high school said in their statement. "ECHS is very proud of all of our students that applied to these programs and we want to wish Preston, Brayden, and Kennedy the best of luck this summer."

L-R: third place Rhett Chidester, second place, Amelia Montgomery, and first place Caroline Langlois.
Edmonson Voice Report:
Caroline Langlois, a student at South Edmonson Elementary, was named the Edmonson County winner in the Jim Claypool Conservation Art Contest for 2024. Winners are announced a few months into the next calendar year. This contest was produced as a partnership between Kentucky Farm Bureau and the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts, and themed: “Protecting the Forest Together."

Students from grades K-12 from across the Commonwealth used the theme to create 32,000 art entries. Judges from the local conservation districts, along with county officials and the UK Ag Extension office, chose county winners, whose entry then moved on to the state level competition.

A distinguished panel of judges with diverse environmental backgrounds selected statewide winners in both writing and art categories. State, area, and county winners will receive a check sponsored by the Kentucky Farm Bureau. First, second, and third place winners in Edmonson County received a medallion, medallion stand, a small cash prize and a certificate commemorating their win from Edmonson County Conservation District with the county winner also receiving a plaque.

South Edmonson Elementary also received $100 from the Conservation District for having the highest percentage of entries, to be used at their discretion.  The list of winners include first place Caroline Langlois, second place, Amelia Montgomery, and third place Rhett Chidester from South Edmonson Elementary. There were 156 entries in the Art Contest from South Edmonson Elementary.

"We commend Mrs. Jessica Doyle, South Edmonson Elementary Art teacher, for her continuing commitment in encouraging the student’s participation in the Jim Claypool Conservation Art Contest," said the Edmonson County Conservation District in a released statement.

There were no entries in the Conservation Writing Contest.

Kyrock Advances to Final Four in Contest to Win Little Debbie Snack Cake Party for Entire School: Vote Now

Click the bracket to vote for Kyrock and Nutty Buddy.
Darren Doyle, story:
Kyrock Elementary (Nutty Buddy) has advanced to the Final Four in the D93FM Little Debbie Snack Cake Survivor bracket and is currently holding a very narrow lead over Natcher Elementary in Bowling Green (Honey Buns).

Here's how the contest works: Each year, D93 chooses 16 random Little Debbie snack cakes and pairs them with 16 random local area elementary schools. A championship bracket is then drawn to pit each cake and school against each other. The public is then able to vote on their favorite choice of cake and school, where the winner advances to the next round.

The winning school will be treated to Little Debbie Snack Cake party where everyone in the school, including staff will enjoy free cakes on a day of fun. Alternate snacks will be provided to anyone with food or nut allergies.

Voting will only take place on the D93 X Account (formerly Twitter). You must have an active X account to vote and votes are counted only once.

Many that vote are not doing so to support any particular school; they are simply voting for their favorite cake just for fun. However, past champions have been those schools who support the contest and work hard to get the word out. Local supporters can make a huge difference in the vote totals.

Kyrock currently has a great chance of winning based on total number of votes they've received in past rounds, which is due to local support.

Vote today to secure Kyrock Elementary and their Nutty Buddy a win and an advancement to the finals! Voting for this round will continue through April 4th.

@LittleDebbie Snack Cake Survivor: The FINAL 4!
Nutty Buddy ( @KyrockBlackhawk ) vs. Honey Buns (@NatcherElem ) Vote now thru April 4th! @tonyroseshow @MellowMatts
