Edmonson Voice Report:
The Edmonson County Chamber of Commerce celebrated yet another local member as the newly renovated Mohawk Center held their grand opening on Saturday, June 22nd in Brownsville. Mohawk Center, formerly known to locals as The Mohawk Motel, was purchased January 2023 by Angela and Bill Miller who immediately began renovations to the interior and exterior of the space with goals to offer cozy boutique settings for shops and offices on the ground floor. It's located at the junction of Main and Mohawk Streets. Kentucky-themed spaces have been created on the second floor for vacationers visiting the area. "We were so touched by the community support for our tenants and vendors Saturday from Brownsville and Edmonson County, and look forward to that support with our continued efforts to pour into the community," Angela Miller said. "Please continue to help our lovely shop owners grow and help us fill the additional spaces we have with more entrepreneurs as our growth at the Mohawk Center continues." The head-turning welcome mural at the end of the building was created by Wolf and Bell, commissioned by Angela. Mark Wardlow, Edmonson County Chamber Board member said it was a good turnout from the community. "It was a great day with many showing up in support of the Millers and Mohawk Center," he said. "Not only are we thrilled to have new Chamber Bronze Partners in Mohawk Center, but the Millers are providing even more opportunities for more new businesses in our community, which helps everyone." Angela said they look forward to more events in the future and welcomes any new ideas the community might share. For more information about available space at Mohawk Center, call Angela at 270-784-2989. To find out more about the Chamber, visit EdmonsonChamber.com. Kentucky Blood Center needs “good blood” and wants to show its’ loyal donors “mad love” for giving – in the form of Taylor Swift tickets, according to a press release from the KBC.
KBC is kicking off its “giving era” this summer by awarding one donor two tickets to Taylor Swift’s Nov. 3 concert in Indianapolis. All donors who give blood at the upcoming blood drive at Mammoth Cave (along with all donors who give blood at KBC May 28 through June 29) will be entered to win the pair of Eras Tour tickets and a $500 Visa gift card to help with travel. All donors will receive a Swift-inspired shirt. Mammoth Cave National Park Wednesday, June 26 from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. CST Rotunda Room The Lodge at Mammoth Cave 1 Mammoth Cave Parkway Mammoth Cave, KY 42259 Please note: Online appointments and reminders (emails and texts) are shown and made in EST. For example, if you make an appointment online for 1 p.m., please arrive at the blood drive at noon. According to the KBC, the Taylor Swift giveaway comes at an important time of the year for the blood supply. Blood donations historically dwindle during the summer because of warm-weather activities, family vacations and no school, but the need for blood doesn’t “calm down” – and transfusions often increase over the summer months for those very same reasons. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org. For more information on the giveaway, including full contest rules, visit kybloodcenter.org/taylor-swift-tickets-giveaway. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522. MASTER COMMISSIONER'S SALE

BRODERICK, MASTER COMMISSIONER Grand Opening Scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2024 Madison Doyle, story: Many locals who grew up in the 80s and before remember the old Mohawk Motel, and most all of them would attest that today's version is a much more refreshing and inviting facility than that of the old days. What may have been an inviting place for lodging decades ago turned into something much less for a number of years. Not much happened to the facility for a long period of time until some renovations over the last decade brought positive change. The newest owners, Bill and Angie Miller, have arguably brought the most impactful change to the building in most recent times, as the facility currently houses new retail businesses, vacation rentals, and space for more. The Millers purchased the property in January of 2023 and immediately began renovations to both the interior and exterior to offer what they described as "cozy boutique settings for shops and offices on the ground floor." Second floor space is reserved for vacation rentals, decorated in various Kentucky themes, for out of towners visiting the area. An eye-catching mural was added to the end of the building facing Main Street a few months ago from Wolf and Bell, who was commissioned by the Millers for the artwork. The Millers described it as "a welcoming mural on the end of the building to welcome guests and for locals to enjoy." The Edmonson County Chamber welcomed three new businesses with ribbon cuttings on March 2, 2024, which included Little Dumplin's Boutique, The Hive Hair & Company, and Body & Mind Massage Studio, but the Millers have planned a huge grand opening celebration for the entire facility on Saturday, June 22nd from 11AM to 4PM, which will include a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting at 12 noon. The Millers have activities planned for all ages that included food trucks, a host of various vendors, and children's activities. "The grand opening will allow us to help our lovely tenants invite people to come in and see the services they have to offer and the beautiful way they have each customized their spaces to offer services to locals," said Angie. "We also look forward to meeting more people in the community and hosting other fun vendors to introduce you to their talents with everything from baked goods, jewelry, food, customized items and more." Chamber President Darren Doyle said this is a boost for economic development in the area. "We hear people using the term 'economic development' often and complain that there is not enough here. The fact is, the best way for the economy in Edmonson County to be better developed is for business owners to create opportunities by doing just what the Millers have done. This is a great idea and we welcome the Millers and the Mohawk Center to the Chamber. We hope that this inspires more entrepreneurs to seek out these opportunities and we're here to help any way we can," Doyle said. The event will take place at the Mohawk Center in the parking lot, located at the corner of Mohawk and Main Street in Brownsville.
