Each and everyone of you were amazing!
Jenifer Frommeyer Louisville, KY Edmonson Voice Report:
After keeping a close eye on the weather forecast for the last several days, the Edmonson County Chamber of Commerce has announced the Big Brownsville Bash is on for this Saturday, August 17th. The outdoor activities were postponed back in June because of rainy weather and questions arose a few days ago as more rain Friday and Saturday was expected, however, the forecast has improved with only a slight chance of rain on Saturday. Events planned for Saturday include the Rafferty's Car Show, The Patton Funeral Home Arts and Vendor Fair inside the Community Center, food trucks downtown, and free inflatables for kids. The event will be capped off with a huge free fireworks display at the HWY 70 Ballpark in conjunction with the Edmonson County Fiscal Court. The annual Chamber of Commerce event is brought to you by Rafferty's, Alford's Pharmacy, Patton Funeral Home, A Plus Family Healthcare, Edmonson County Tourism Commission, and the Bank of Edmonson County. The Canoe and Kayak Challenge has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 7th with details to come. Darren Doyle, story: The historic Reed-Dossey House Bed and Breakfast has once again been named the 3rd best B&B in the state by the readers of Kentucky Living Magazine. Owners Tony and Sharon Zagaros purchased the home in 2018 after retiring early as they sold their Victorian home in Minnesota and living what they thought was their best life on the road in an RV, touring the U.S. for three years. "Thank you to everyone that supported and voted for The Reed-Dossey House Bed & Breakfast," said the Zagaros in a public statement. "We placed 3rd in the State of Kentucky! We are honored to have been voted for and to have won a second straight year!" To celebrate, they shot some fireworks from their location last night, which was caught on the Edmonson Voice weather camera. Edmonson Voice Report:
Local Edmonson County Pony Express team member Kinsley Meredith competed this week at the Kentucky State Fair 4-H Show in the speed division. Kinsley placed in the top 10 in all seven events, which resulted in her being named as one of the ten junior riders statewide in her division. Kinsley is a freshman at Edmonson County High School, a member of the Edmonson County Club, and the daughter of Paul and Melissa Meredith of Mammoth Cave. She is encouraging any kids ages 9 to 18 that love horses and want to learn more about them, as well as what 4-H can do, to come out and join. Darren Doyle, story: Some of the most popular events from the annual Big Brownsville Bash, presented by the Edmonson County Chamber of Commerce, have been rescheduled for a fun-filled day in Brownsville. The annual Rafferty's Car Show and Patton Funeral Home Vendor Fair have been rescheduled for Saturday, August 17th, at the Community Center and Courthouse Square in Brownsville. The Fireworks Finale will also be held on that night (weather permitting) at the HWY 70 Ballpark, in conjunction with the Edmonson County Fiscal Court. FOR UPDATED VENDOR SHOW BOOTH INFORMATION, PLEASE CALL 270-270-991-6836. "You'll notice that we're having another Vendor Fair, even though that event wasn't cancelled on the original date of June 1st, where the other events were canceled due to heavy rain," said Josh Casey, Vice President of the Chamber Board. "The weather really hurt the crowd that day and since the Homemakers were able to help us again, we thought it would be nice if could give it another try."
Casey also thanked the Edmonson County Fiscal Court for their assistance in rescheduling the fireworks display that is expected to bring a big crowd out in Brownsville on that Saturday night. The Kayak and Canoe Challenge is rescheduled for Saturday, September 7th. MAMMOTH CAVE, KY.– Mammoth Cave National Park invites you experience the Perseids Meteor Shower at an evening Star Party at Mammoth Cave National Park on Monday, August 12 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. CDT. Park rangers and volunteers will present an evening program about the night sky, provide telescopes to view a first quarter moon and deep sky objects, and distribute Junior Ranger Night Explorer books while watching meteors stream overhead.
The night sky events begin at the outdoor amphitheater near the Camp Store with an evening program that discusses the importance of the night sky environment to plants, animals, and humans as well as the dangers of light pollution. As the sun sets and the stars begin to emerge, the group will move to the bus loop of the visitor center where several telescopes will be set up for night sky viewing. Park rangers and volunteers from Western Kentucky University's Hilltopper Astronomy Club will be on hand to answer questions and help identify celestial objects. Event participants may wish to bring blankets or chairs to sit on for a more comfortable viewing experience. Local astronomers are also welcome to bring their own telescopes and set them up in the bus loop. All activities are weather dependent and may be cancelled in the event of hazardous weather. Every August the Perseids Meteor Shower lights up night skies with a dazzling display of “shooting stars.” These shooting stars are actually meteors which consist of chunks of ice or rock in space ranging in size from a grain of sand to a boulder. Past Perseids Meteor displays have seen up to 100 meteors visible per hour in dark locations. Mammoth Cave National Park was recognized by the International Dark-Sky Association as an International Dark Sky Park in 2021. This certification showcases the park as, “land possessing an exceptional or distinguished quality of starry nights and a nocturnal environment that is specifically protected for its scientific, natural, educational, cultural heritage, and/or public enjoyment.” Visit MCNP's website for more information about Mammoth Cave National Park’s Night Sky or to learn some Stargazing tips.
