Mckenzie is a junior at ECHS, a member of the Edmonson County Saddle Club and Edmonson County Pony Express 4-H Horse Club. We are in the fall transition period and fishing can be a challenge. Fish are scattered, so keep a variety of baits on deck. Most activity is still on the main lake and main lake points. For the next few weeks, the fish will remain around 15 feet or less. A buzzbait works well early. Chatterbaits and swimjigs are good in wood. Medium crankbaits are catching fish off points and flats. A shaky head and finesse worm works well off docks. Jig and craw combinations catch deeper fish. Covering as much water as possible during the day is a good game plan. Tube jigs and minnows for crappie on deep brushpiles along mud banks. Shad are catching some good catfish in low light periods. It's great to see the Nolin River open again! Thanks to the Army Corp and Park Service. Wear your PFD and take the family fishing. Fall fishing event at Cabelas in Bowling Green this weekend. Hope to see you there. Edmonson Voice Staff Report:
On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at 1:00 pm, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with Mammoth Cave National Park will celebrate the completion of a tree removal project on the Nolin River. The ceremony will take place at the Tailwater Recreation Area boat ramp, located below the Nolin Dam. The ribbon cutting ceremony marks the completion of a three month long tree removal project that made the Nolin River passable again. “We’re thankful we had this opportunity and support from Mammoth Cave National Park to be able to clear the downed trees blocking the river.” said Deryck Rodgers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nolin River Lake Manager. “Our staff understands the importance of Nolin River and the benefit river recreation provides to this community.” Visitors launching vessels at the Nolin River Lake Dam can expect approximately seven and half mile downstream paddle to the confluence with the Green River. This paddle along the historic Nolin River shoreline features many scenic rock outcroppings, colorful wildflowers along the banks, and opportunities to view an array of wildlife. Boaters now have an opportunity to take out at a new ramp located approximately 2 miles downstream of the Nolin/Green River confluence, where Green River Lock and Dam 6 was previously located. Prior to planning trips on the Nolin River, paddlers should be aware that river levels can change rapidly and that hazards such as fallen or submerged trees and rocks, drifting debris, and swift currents still exist. While inside the National Park boundary, personal flotation devices (PFDs) must be worn at all times by persons on board a vessels, and alcohol use is prohibited. For more information about the ribbon cutting call the Nolin River Lake Corps of Engineers office at 270-286-4511. To keep up to date information about recreation and river safety on the Nolin River, visit Mammoth Cave National Park’s website at www.nps.gov/maca/planyourvisit/ontherivers.htm.
