With Kyrock Elementary School set to build a new school building next Spring, a new playground is in need. The vision of the new playground is to be all inclusive, wheelchair accessible, and provide different levels of play to meet the developmental needs and ages of every student who attends KES. Kyrock’s PTO will be financially responsible for the new playground. They will be raffling off a custom built play-set at their annual Fall Festival on October 18, 2024. Michelle Haycraft, Kyrock PTO President, said "We would like to send a thank you to the fabulous sponsors who made this raffle possible: Alford’s Pharmacy & Drive Thru, Bank of Edmonson County, SCA Excavation & Demolition, Advanced Hydroseeding, and C&A Plumbing. Without their generous donations, this play-set would not have been possible." The play-set was constructed with treated lumber and has a metal roof. It also includes an upper and lower 5’x5’ play area with ladder, slide, climbing net, two swings, one saucer swing, and a trapeze swing bar. Raffle tickets go on sale, September 27, 2024, and will be available for purchase until October 18, 2024 at 6:30 PM. Tickets can be bought individually or in bundles. Contact a PTO member, student of the school, or call Kyrock directly to purchase tickets. You may also complete a virtual Google form and submit electronic payment via Venmo. No, this is not out of a horror movie, nor is it satire. This is a real thing that happened right here in Edmonson County. Cassie Tarter, granddaughter of local farmer and former county magistrate Charlie Tarter, shared her story of a rare, two-headed calf that was born on their farm on Tuesday, September 24th and lived only a short time. "He was born Tuesday afternoon but sadly passed before sunset Tuesday night," Cassie said. "It happened right in the heart of Pig, Ky on Tarter Farms." She said that reasons the calf died included being born partially undeveloped and with a damaged spine. "I did take him to my reproduction and physiology class at Western Kentucky University to do an autopsy on him," Cassie added. "During the autopsy we found that all his organs and everything were perfect for just one calf. He had one esophagus and trachea for the two heads. Both heads had a mouth, nose, two eyes, and two ears so in total the calf had two mouths, two noses, four eyes, and four ears." According to U.S. News and World Report, the owners of Breaux Farms LLC in Cossinade, near Baton Rouge, LA, who also experienced the same on their farm, said the chance of this type of birth is 1 in 400 million. However, some veterinarians say it may even be rarer than that. When it happens, the calves don't normally live very long. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest time a two-headed cow has lived is 17 months 15 days. Gemini, a heifer Holstein calf, was born on August 4, 1991 on Russell and Perry Stowells' Farm in Woodland, Michigan, weighing 749 lbs and died on January 19, 1993. Cassie said the family was going to have the head mounted for preservation. LOCATION CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER FORECAST: AUCTION WILL NOW BE HELD AT FHRA OFFICE AT 120 W. The Edmonson County Public Library is hosting an upcoming children's event on September 28th: 2nd Annual Touch a Truck event.
The event is free and family-friendly, offering children a hands-on opportunity to explore these vehicles and learn from the professionals who operate them. It’s a fun way to bring the community together and showcase the variety of services that help our area thrive. Darren Doyle, story and photos: The second location of a popular eatery in the community celebrated it's recent opening with a ribbon cutting hosted by the Edmonson County Chamber of Commerce. PJ's Roadhouse in Bee Spring has been open for a few weeks now and locals are talking about the quality of the food served there, which according to co-owner Jackie Snelling, is their top priority. "Quality food, great flavor, and great service is what our focus is," Snelling said. "We will always do our best to provide the very best for a fair price in a great atmosphere." Snelling owns the business with her husband Gary and partners Phillip and Carol Coleman. Jackie and Phillip will manage the business as they do PJ's Cafe in Brownsville.
The location of the new PJ's Roadhouse is on KY HWY 259N, formerly known as Bee Spring Restaurant. They offer a large selection of hot, home cooked meals like catfish, ribeye steak dinners, chicken, pork loin, and a host of burgers and hot sandwiches. Jackie says a second location will allow the business to have a proper expansion. "Our Cafe customers also wanted dinner served, and we tried that, but we didn't really have the room to provide that at our original location. This will allow us to better serve our lunch and dinner customers and let us focus on our popular breakfast items as well as lunch at the other place." PJ's Roadhouse will also offer a candy shop on location in the near future along with what they call "The Outhouse," around back, which is a picnic-type shelter where outdoor dining with karaoke will be offered. They can be contacted at 270-286-2002 and by following their Facebook Page. Edmonson Voice Report:
