The Edmonson County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce there will be a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, December 5 at 11 am for Jacob's Home Furnishings at 3981 Hwy. 259 N. Brownsville, KY. Friends, family, Chamber Members, old customers and new customers are welcomed to attend.
Many of you have known them over the years as Jacob's Log Furniture. On January 29 of this year, they had a fire that left them to make several tough decisions. Owner, Jeff Jacobs stated "We sat down that night and decided to rebuild. This business was my passion, it is what I do" stated Jacobs. "The new structure is beautiful" stated Rhonda Clemmons, Director for the Chamber of Commerce. The exterior of the building closely mirrors the historic Lindseyville post office building across the street which compliments the community. "The items inside the building are as beautiful as the exterior of the building" stated Clemmons. For over 13 years, they have sold log furniture to locals, and lake goers and even celebrities on the Outdoor Channel. They can proudly say only two pieces of furniture have ever been returned due to defect out of thousands of orders. Quality has been their biggest concern from the beginning. After months of weekends and late nights, they opened their doors a few months ago. Their goal with the new venture "Jacob's Home Furnishings", is to offer their brand along with all types of home furnishing products and home decor. They offer quality name brand upholstered furniture, bedding, and simply put a number of unique home furnishing pieces in their store. They look forward to serving the people of Edmonson County with their furniture needs. To contact them call 270-286-6002 or visit www.jacobslogfurniture.com

The American Red Cross accepted blood donations Thursday at Kyrock Elementary. This is an annual event hosted by the fourth grade, and Kyrock's goal was 32 units of blood. As always, Kyrock friends, family, and staff showed their support for the annual blood drive. The event exceeded expectations with 43 units of blood being donated. "Thanks to everyone who donated and helped Kyrock exceed their goal," said fourth grade teacher Tammy Poteet. "Only thoughtful people like yourselves can give the gift of life. A special thank you to Marilyn Hopkins and Susie Vincent for volunteering their time today to make this a successful event." above: Faculty members are all smiles as they donate blood on Thursday (courtesy of Tammy Poteet)
The Edmonson County Middle School will be bringing holiday cheer and charm to the community this year with a performance of “Yes, Virginia The Musical,” an original production based on the true story of 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon, whose curiosity about the existence of Santa Claus inspired her to write a letter to the “New York Sun” newspaper in 1897 and prompted one of the most famous newspaper editorials of all time. "Yes, Virginia The Musical” was created by Macy’s as part of its annual holiday Believe campaign and has been performed by hundreds of schools and other groups each holiday season since 2012. Since the program’s launch, the retailer has offered $100,000 in grant funds each year to help alleviate production costs, and Edmonson County Middle School is one of this year’s recipients of a $1,000 grant. The performance of “Yes, Virginia The Musical” will take place on December 18, 2015, 10:00 AM in the Darrel M. Cassady Auditorium. ECMS is one of only 100 schools and non-profit community organizations across the country to be offered a $1,000 grant from Macy’s as part of this year’s musical program. Grant recipients use their funds to purchase everything from costumes and set materials to sound and lighting equipment. In addition, Macy’s provides the script and score for “Yes, Virginia The Musical” royalty free to all interested organizations and has created a comprehensive digital toolkit on yesvirginiamusical.com that includes helpful videos, an interactive script and production reference materials to help groups stage their performances. Charla Caudill, Library Media Specialist for ECMS, will be overseeing the production that will involve 20 students. "This production allows our students to gain experience in musical, dance and dramatic performance," she said. "It also allows students to experience different jobs in theater such as directing, lights, sound, set design, costume and make up. The students and I are very grateful to Macy's for the grant they have provided ECMS. The money has helped us purchase audio equipment, costumes, and stage props." Student Council members from the Edmonson County Middle School and the 5/6 Center went on a Christmas cheer field trip today to help shop for the local Christmas Angel program. Sponsored by the Youth Service center, the program purchases and distributes Christmas gifts to needy children and families that could use a little help during the Christmas season. Items not only include toys and games, but regular necessities, like clothing, shoes, and personal hygiene products. Almost 40 students participated in today's trip. Fifth grader Alyssa Doyle said she and her friends had fun helping others today. "Sometimes people don't have very much and they need help," she said. "That's what we're here for, that's what we're supposed to do." Darren Doyle, story and photos Another new Edmonson County business opened it's doors to the public today as Associates In Counseling held their ribbon cutting and open house at their new location in the Main Street Center. The Brownsville office is the counseling service's third practice location, owned by local resident Erica Simpson along with Luke Hatfield, as they also have locations in Leitchfield and Hardinsburg. "We're incredibly thankful for our hometown coming out with this huge crowd and supporting us today," said Simpson. "We're so glad to be able to provide our services for our community. To open a business in Edmonson County and to be able to bring jobs here, we just couldn't be happier." Her business partner, Luke Hatfield, was also happy with the turnout. "We've had a great crowd here today," he said. "We're excited to start here and make a presence here in the county, making a difference with our services and ways we can affect people positively." The practice provides counseling services to adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families who are in need. A statement from their office said, "Everyone needs a helping hand from time to time. Counseling should be a safe place for you to reach your goals. We provide services in a confidential, comfortable setting. Our office is dedicated to helping each client reach their goals."
They can be reached at 210 South Main Street, Suite 101, Brownsville, KY, 42210. 270-597-1000. You can visit their Facebook page by clicking here.
