Peytin Manor, story and photos: On October 17, 2025, one hundred and thirty-six fourth graders from Kyrock Elementary and South Edmonson Elementary attended the Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day at the Edmonson County Lions Club Fairgrounds. Edmonson County 4-H Youth Development Agent, Bridgett Poteet, states, “Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day is one of the most impactful educational events we host each year. It gives our youth the opportunity to learn hands-on lessons about staying safe on the farm and at home. From electrical and animal safety to first aid and fire prevention, these experiences help build lifelong habits that keep our rural communities safe and strong.” The following 4-H Teen Club members were group leaders for the fourth grade groups, Jenna Lashley, Jackson Priddy, Carter Webb, Sam Ulm, Peytin Manor, Halle Hardin, Regan Howard, and Laynee Merideth. Megan Beavers–senior 4-H Teen Club member–assisted the Edmonson County Public Library to teach Internet Safety. Twelve stations were set up across the fair grounds. The following businesses, cooperations, and clubs that attended were Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, Army Corp of Engineers, ECHS Allied Health, A Plus Family Healthcare, FRYSC, KSU Ag, EC Pony Express, Edmonson County EMS, Chalybeate Fire Department, WRECC, and Edmonson County Public Library. The Edmonson County Cattlemen's Association cooked lunch for this event. The Allied Health class at Edmonson County High School attends the safety day annually. High performing students in the health program are carefully selected to attend safety day to teach and inform fourth grade students on choking, allergic reaction, and CPR protocols. The following students were selected to attend: Tayla Wilhite, Shelby Sowders, Quinnlan Alford, Josie Lich, Belle Woodcock, Lillian Lindsey, and Allie Decker.
Allied Health CTE teacher and HOSA advisor, Alex Massey, states, “I really enjoy Field Day Safety every year. It is a great time for current HOSA students to share knowledge and skills that they have learned so far in the program. It is our goal that when the kids leave our station they have a better knowledge on what to do and look for if a person is choking, having an allergic reaction or needing CPR. Providing information to promote farm/everyday safety is always a good thing.” When asked about her field trip, Adelynne Newton, South Edmonson student in Mrs. Heather House’s fourth grade class said, “I feel like this field trip was so important because if we do these things one day we will need to know how to do it safely. I had so much fun today!” The Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day is an engaging experience for students of Kyrock and South Edmonson Elementary. With the support of the community, its growing leaders, and educators, students received hands-on lessons that not only taught them the importance of various safety skills but also provided them with life skills they can use all throughout their lives.
