Owen “Wayne” Campbell, age 75, of Brownsville, KY departed this life on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. The Edmonson County native was born on February 14, 1943 to the late Owen and Mae Johnson Campbell. He was married to his devoted wife and best friend, Jannie Hogan Campbell, who survives.
Wayne retired from DESA as a material handler, and was a member of Oak Grove United Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory-- one son, Tracy Campbell of Nicholasville; one daughter, Felicia Graham (Larry) of Pig; seven grandchildren, Dylan Campbell (Mary), Colin Campbell, Cameron Campbell, Tyler Campbell, Shayna Campbell, Zackery Graham (Abby) and Morgan Graham; one step granddaughter, Lauren Potts (David); two great-grandchildren, Maddox and Olivia Campbell; one step great-granddaughter, Zoey Potts; one brother, Danny Campbell (Margie) of Brownsville; two sisters, Ethel Campbell and Jeanetta Cowles (Bobby) all of Louisville; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Dustin had a deep baritone voice like Johnny Cash and was a talented guitar player. He enjoyed playing gospel music with his Papaw Roy Lee and eating good home-cooked meals made by his Great-Aunt Martha. He had the most giving heart and was the first to help anyone in need whether it was working on his great-uncle's tractor, painting a rental apartment with his cousin, or offering a ride to a stranger walking along the road. Survivors include his father, Derwin Carrier; mother, Symantha Morris Thomas (Billy); half-sister, Tami Smith (Mark); two aunts, Melissa Carrier and Vivian McDaniel (Phillip); special great-aunt, Martha McCrady; two nieces, a nephew, several great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, and friends. He is proceeded in death by his brother, Devin Lee Carrier; paternal grandparents, Roy Lee and Joetta Carrier; and maternal grandparents, James E. Morris and Katheryn J. Allen. Junior retired from Eaton Corporation as a machinist, and was a faithful member of Beaver Dam United Baptist Church. He enjoyed working outside in his garden, and always cherished time with his family and church family. He was born at home in Lindseyville, KY, on September 16, 1947, and was a baptist. He was proceeded in death by his parents Willie J. and Lottie Douglas; his daughter Melissa Dawn Douglas; and his siblings Warren G., James, Mary (Dodd), Maydell (Hammonds), Shelby (Johnson), and Gilbert.
Larry was a Sergeant in the US Army. He was a Purple Heart recipient for his service in Vietnam. He is a member of the American Legion, Post # 23. Larry was a foreman at Holley Carburetor and a Machinist at American Machine and Welding and Metals n' More. He loved Kentucky Basketball, racing, fishing, going to his lake house, and his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 33 years Teresa Cherry Douglas; his children Craig Douglas (Kim McElwain); Janel Doyle (Kendall) all of Bowling Green; and Brandon (Sandi) of Hawaii. Brothers Bill (Wanda) of Brownsville; Mac (Jackie) of Bowling Green and sisters Carolyn Douglas of Winnipeg, Canada; and Wilma Heidenreich of Arizona. They knew it was love at first sight, later married, and were devoted to each other for sixty-two years.
Ravin was saved at a young age, and was a member of Sunny Point General Baptist Church. When he was only ten-years-old, he started working at a sawmill and driving a log truck. He later retired as a farmer and carpenter, and volunteered his time at the Senior Center in Brownsville. He loved his family more than anything, and was the most loving husband, dad, papaw, poppy and brother you could ever have. Besides his loving wife, he leaves to honor his memory-- three sons, William P. Lindsey (Pat) of Roundhill, John W. Lindsey (Melissa) of Bowling Green and Rodney L. Soon after he got out of the military and started working with Philip Morris, he purchased a farm, on what is now Brooks Road. The farm had an abundance of March Lilies, and was a peaceful retreat for family and friends to gather to pick flowers. Artie and her husband Randall were the former owners of the Prescription Shop in Brownsville and Smiths Grove. She loved going on cruises and spending time on the beach. She was an Edmonson County native and the daughter of the late Wilbur & Louvena Bratcher Davis. Surviving are five daughters, Candy Bratcher (David), Carilla Goodman (David) and Charlene Cook (Jason) all of Roundhill, Missy Morgan (Jeff) of Morgantown and Brenda Williams (Quenton) of Leitchfield; two brothers, Bobby Hershe of Lincoln, IL and Butch Hershe of Pontiac, IL; two sisters, Barbara Bailey of Lincoln and Thelma Schall of Pontiac; six grandchildren, Zachary Staugatis, Kaylee Cook, Matthew Bratcher, Brayden Cook, Libby Morgan and Tyler Williams; and several nieces and nephew Barbara Ann Morris Waddell Gregory, 79, of Brownsville passed away at 12:34 PM Jan. 14, 2019 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
The Jefferson County native was a waitress, a homemaker and a member of Green Valley Church of Christ. She was a daughter of the late Homer Rex Morris and Geneva Smith Morris and the wife of the late Allen Lee Gregory and the late Truman Waddell. She was preceded in death by her step mother, Theora Leigh Morris; two brothers, Donald Morris and Herbert Morris; and a step brother, Johnny Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Wednesday and after 9:00 AM Thursday. James Evans Arms, age 32, of Park City, KY, departed this life on Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Park City. The Barren County native was born on March 26, 1986 to James Robert Arms of Park City and Pam Scott (Jimmie Hoff) of Bon Ayr.
James was a masonry laborer and attended Caveland Baptist Church. Jill was a tenant farmer and enjoyed spending time in the woods. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids. A “jack-of-all-trades”, he was a former Deputy Jailer and Deputy Sheriff of Edmonson County. In 1988, he moved to Georgetown with his late wife, and worked for the State of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and later retired as a clerk with BP. Van was born October 14, 1947 in Louisville, KY. He graduated from Manual High School and Western Kentucky University. He was retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education where he taught at Manual High School and Fairdale High School. He was also retired from the Floyd County, Indiana Board of Education where he taught at Floyd Central High School. Van was saved in June 1957 at Lone Hill United Baptist Church where he was a member at his death. He was ordained into the United Baptist Ministry and serving as Pastor at Lone Hill, Basil Chapel, Caney Creek, Claggett and Greenwood Road. He served as Assistant Pastor at 1st United Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents,Cassie and Bill Tomes; mother and father-in-law; Geneva and Reverend Alva Casey. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Gayle Tomes; daughters, Vanessa Poteet (Kevin), Pamela Uselton (Chad) and Trish Priest (Bob); sisters, Susan Tomes and Diane Garner (Jack); grandchildren, Brandon Romine (Ashley), Tyler Poteet (Haleigh), Brianne Priest, Alyssa Brewer (Wayne) and Ryan Priest; great grandchildren, Jax and Khori. Joe Skaggs, age 79, of Brownsville, KY departed this life on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Genesis Edmonson Center. The Edmonson County native was born on October 22, 1939 to the late Carl and Luzana Skaggs. He was married to Willa Dene Skaggs, who also preceded him in death.
Joe was a United States Air Force veteran, and retired as a truck driver. During his spare time, he thoroughly enjoyed singing and spending time with his friends at Brownsville Karaoke. He leaves to honor his memory— two daughters, Bonnie Ann Taylor (Danny) of Park City and Chrissie Deweese (Lannie) of Sweeden; seven grandchildren, Daniel Taylor, Jeremy Skaggs (Jennifer), Andrew Taylor (Ashley), Erica Haley (Steven), Amber Hardcastle (Chad), Tarashane Thompson (Brandon) and Clay Deweese (Heather); thirteen great-grandchildren and one brother, Terry Skaggs of Michigan. The Edmonson County native was a field supervisor for Cooper Steel, a 2006 graduate of Edmonson County High School and a member of Shrewsbury General Baptist Church. He was the son of Randy Hardin of Big Reedy and Joyce Johnson Hardin of Sweeden, who survive. Dorothy McDaniel, of Park City, passed away on December 28, 2018, at the age of 98. She was born in Barren County, KY, on December 25, 1920, to the late Stuard and Alice Simpson England. Dorothy was married to the late Martie McDaniel.
Dorothy was a nurses’ aid at TJ Sampson Hospital. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Park City Baptist Church. To cherish and honor her memory, she leaves behind-- three daughters, Barbara Sturtzel (Gil) of Louisville, June Cole of Middletown, IN, and Carolyn Coulter (James) of New Albany, IN; two sons, J.S. McDaniel (Johnette) of Tyler, Texas and Vernon McDaniel (Jan) of Scottsdale, AZ; as well as, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends and family. Besides her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her siblings, Albert, Amy, and Mayme, and a daughter, Linda Crane.
