Joseph Avery Potts, 45, of Loris, South Carolina departed this life on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 in Loris. The Georgia native was born on November 4, 1974 to the late Samuel Gayle Potts Sr. and the late Maxine Harris Welch. He was devoted to his life long companion, Patricia Ann McDowell.
Avery was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed guiding fishing tours. He was a devoted Christian who was saved at South Union General Baptist Church in South, Kentucky. He was devoted to his current church, Lawndale Baptist Church. Besides his life long companion he leaves to honor his memory - a sister, Melissa Whobrey (Jim); a niece, Callie Beliles (Wesley); a nephew, Shannon Whobrey; and a great nephew Dean Beliles. Avery was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Samuel Gayle Potts Jr. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 2, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Boat Dock in Calabash, North Carolina. The Warren County native was a daughter of the late Carl and Naomi Wilson Mills and wife of the late Donald R. Barnes I. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Jessie Mills and one sister, Pauline Ward. Eva was a member of Victory Baptist Church and a self employed truck driver. Her survivors include two sons, Donald Barnes II (Ann) and John Derek Barnes (Denise); five grandchildren, Erika Cummings (Randall), Amber Barnes Brooks (Kevin), Donny Barnes III (Ciara), Alexis Anderson and Austin Fann. four great grandchildren, Jax, Maddox, Knox and Vivi; four sisters, Barbara Russell (Joe), Linda Caudill (Bob), Kim Morris, Pat Lamastus; three brothers, Roger Mills (Lisa), Kenneth Mills (Bonnie) and Mike Mills; several nieces and nephews. The Warren County native was a son of the late Paul Eldon and Mable Reed Jones and is preceded in death by a brother, Larry Jones, a sister, Brenda Jones and a niece Tonya Minton. Terry was employed for 22 years at Scotty's Contracting and Stone as a truck driver; a member of Fairview Memorial Baptist Church, VFW and NRA. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran. Ken was born on January 12, 1942 in Bee Springs, Kentucky to the late Elbert Meredith and Clara Bullock Meredith. After high school, Ken attended Murray State where he played baseball, a game that he really enjoyed. He also collected Hess Trucks and would collect each year’s model. Nobody loved life more than Ken. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy Meredith of Pinehurst; his daughter, Allyson Presley Cunningham and husband Eric of Missouri; his son, John Meredith and his wife Nicole of New York; two brothers: Linuel Meredith and Gerald Meredith both of Kentucky. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren: Sarah Meredith, Katherine Presley and Ryan Presley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clement Meredith. Greg was a former educator and principal at South Edmonson Elementary School. He was saved as a young boy at New Home General Baptist Church, and later moved his membership to Pleasant Union United Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Kentucky Education Association. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Red Hill General Baptist Church, where she was a member, with burial to follow in Red Hill Cemetery. Leonard “Jr.” Graham, age 72 of Cave City, departed this life on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. The Barren County native was born on February 23, 1947 to the late Olan and Maxine Reinick Graham. He was married to Sondra Graham, who survives.
Leonard was a retired truck driver and police officer with Marion County Police Department. Besides his wife he leaves to honor his memory-- two sons, four daughters, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
