David Wayne Self, 70, of Park City passed away at 9:35 AM Feb. 27, 2023 at Hospice House in Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a jack-of-all-trades. He was a son of the late Wilbur Self and Dorothy Lucille Raymer Self of Huff, who survives. He was preceded in death by his life partner, Patricia Dennison; a sister, Delilah Linfoot; and a brother, Dallas Self (Mary Nell).
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place 2-7 PM Thursday and after 9:00 AM Friday.
 
Also surviving are five sons, Jeff Self (Andrea) of Brownsville, Lonnie Self (Christy) and Chris Self both of Park City, Jimmie Self (Bonnie Jean) of Wingfield and Josh Gibbons of Bowling Green; a daughter, Amy Dennison of Louisville; a sister, Deborah Bliss (Steven) of Sunfish; three brothers, Donald Self (Lindy) and Darren Self (Trish) both of Huff and Douglas Self of Hardinsburg; 19 grandchildren, Caleigh Self, Bryleigh Self, Taylor Howard, Kayleigh Bratcher, Cody Self, Anthony Hayes, Clayten Self, Christopher Gary Self, Colton Self, Connor Winchester, Chyanne Winchester, Caleb Winchester, Bently Self, Taylor Lane, Addison Eastman, Jared Meredith, Tiffany Richardson, Miranda Richardson and Ali Aviles; Corey Aviles; and seven great grandchildren, Waylon Self, Charlee Hayes, Hadley Hayes, Rory Self, Joeyanna Self, Kyson Aviles and Kali Aviles.

Lottie Nell Hogan, age 82, of Cave City, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville. The Barren County native was born on September 24, 1940 to the late Robert Chester and Lottie Ellen Higdon. She was married for sixty-four years to Arlie Hogan, who survives.

Lottie was a housewife, a member of Caveland Baptist Church and a former member of Park City Baptist Church.

Besides her husband, Arlie, she leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Janet Staples (John) of Cave City; granddaughter, Christa Hess (Don) of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Amber Nichole Hess and Logan Tyler Hess; great-great granddaughter, Ayva Rhoades; brother, Bobby Higdon (Lois); sisters, Maedel Remington and Alice Townsend (George), along with several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother, J.D. and Roger Higdon and sister, Ada Jane Smith.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mildred Meredith Stice, age 94 of Brownsville, peacefully departed this life with her family by her side on Monday, February 20, 2023 at the Hospice House in Bowling Green.  The Edmonson County native was born on June 18, 1928 to the late Roy and Ada Meredith.  She was married for seventy years to Jesse Leo Stice, until they were parted by his death on August 19, 2019. 

Mildred was a homemaker, and worked with her hands to provide for her family.  She was also a bookkeeper, and thoroughly enjoyed reading, working on the farm, and picking up rocks and sticks from her yard.  Her greatest love was her family, and being in church with them at Beaver Dam United Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member until God called her home. 

She leaves to honor her memory— her children, David Stice (Sandy) of Chalybeate, Jeff Stice (Susan) of Brownsville and Stacy Raymer (Kevin) of Chalybeate; her grandchildren, Shaun Stice (Carol), Ryan Stice (Natalie), Derek Stice (Denise), Jonathan Stice (Elizabeth), Amanda Davis (Hunter), Logan Raymer (Alexis) and Carly Raymer; great-grandchildren, Evan Stice, Olivia Stice, Elliott Stice, Caleb Stice, Lola Stice, Joshua Stice, Emmerson Raymer, Jesse Davis, Jack Stice, Nora Stice, Landry Raymer and Henry Davis and her sisters, Wanda Wilson (Dean), Stella Miller and Bea Schroeter.  Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Sturdivant and Mabel Wood.

Penny Joanne Lindsey, age 77 of Lindseyville, was surrounded by her family when she peacefully departed this life at her residence on Sunday, February 19, 2023. The Ohio County native was born on November 8, 1945 to the late Rollin B. and Thelma V. Dye.  She was married to her best friend of fifty-four years, Ronnie Lindsey, who survives. 

Penny retired as a supervisor from Holley Carburetor.  She was a member of the Green River Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star #577, and Midway United Missionary Baptist Church.

Linda Sue Hogan, age 64, of Cave City, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023 at her residence. The Barren County native was born on January 10, 1959 to the late Dewey Bransford Smith and Reba Mae Blakley Smith. She was married to Bobby Glenn Hogan, who survives.

Linda was a former housekeeper for the Glasgow Inn and Diamond Caverns Resort. She enjoyed being outdoors and hiking. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.

Nellie Brooks Wright, 73, of Brownsville passed away at 4:16 PM Feb. 16, 2023 at Edmonson Center.
 
The Edmonson County native was homemaker Her most cherished memories were hunting and fishing with her family and friends. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren more than anything. She was a daughter of the late Carlton Brooks and Cora Vincent Brooks and the wife of the late Dennis “Butch” Wright.
 
Visitation will take place 12-3 PM Saturday, Feb. 25th at Gravil Funeral Home. With funeral services to begin at 3:00 PM.

Rondal “Butch” Minyard, age 68 of Brownsville, departed this life on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at his residence. The Edmonson County native was born on November 12, 1954 to the late Charles and Bernice Thompson Minyard. He is survived by his wife, Diana Simpson.

Butch worked for many years as a mechanic, and his passion was restoring classic cars. He was a member of New Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, Diana, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Neil Minyard (Amy) of Chalybeate, Richie Minyard (Leslie) of Brownsville, and Dottie Collins (Timmy) of Smiths Grove; stepchildren, Jason Johnson (Cathy) of Chalybeate, Carey Woodcock (Jason) of Bee Spring, Stacy Collins of Bowling Green and Ashley Spainhoward (Brad); nine grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Charline Thomas. Marvel Dale Lowe, 76, of Russellville passed away Feb. 10, 2023 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a funeral director/embalmer, former owner of Parrot & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville, former Taylor County Coroner, former owner of Campbellsville Hardwood Products, a farmer, logger and millworker. He was a son of the late Marvel Mills Lowe and Lillian Meredith Lowe. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Jo Driskill, Virginia Lowe and Melinda Senn.
 
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
 
Surviving are two sons, Dale Jr. Lowe (Kathy) of Springboro, OH and Aaron Lowe of Louisville; two daughters, Meredith Parker of Louisville and Cherrish Sharlow of Campbellsville; his companion, Kathy Porter of Russellville; a brother, Byron Lowe (Teresa) of Nashville; three sisters, Pat Pennington (Jim) of Leitchfield, Myra sides (Harold) of Gallatin, TN and Betty Hennion (Darrell) of Brownsville; six grandchildren, Marina Parker, Carson Lowe, Colby Lowe, Linnon Sharlow, Cedar Sharlow and Prim Sharlow.

Mr. Leon Tarter, left this world to join his Savior on February 9, 2023, at his residence with his family around him. Leon was born on September 19, 1924, to his beloved parents Sam and Mirtie Keith Tarter who preceded him in death. He lived a long life doing what he loved—auctioneering. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Leon was the owner of Tarter Real Estate and Auction for 65+ years, a member of Smiths Grove United Methodist Church, a member of Smiths Grove Lions Club and Hays Masonic Lodge for 70 years. He loved the auction business and was named Kentucky State Champion Auctioneer twice during his life. Leon proudly served his country during WW II as a Calvary Scout---D Day + 3.

Leon is survived by two sons, Johnny (Judy) and David (Victoria) Tarter. He was very proud of his grandchildren: Amy Stickle (Ben); Sam Tarter and Molly Tarter Denise (Nick). He was blessed with three Great Grandchildren, Emery and Caroline Stickle and Raegan Denise. Special caregivers helping to take care of Leon during his sickness are Martha Floyd, Doris Grissom, and Kenneth Meredith. His special friend, Inga Sue Wolff, was a huge part of Leon's life.

Friends and family can visit with the family on Sunday, from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel. Visitation will resume at 11:00 a.m. on Monday until service time at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Lambert Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be held on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. The family asks friends to memorialize Leon through contributions to Hospice of Southern Kentucky and/or Smiths Grove United Methodist Church. William W. “Bill” Douglas, age 87 of Chalybeate, departed this life on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Medical Center of Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on February 27, 1935 to the late Rev. Willie and Charlotte Elizabeth “Lottie” Douglas. He was married to Wanda Cassady Douglas, who survives.

Bill worked as a foreman for Holly Carburetor. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Baptist Church, served our nation in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Washington Meredith Masonic Lodge #355 F&AM. 

Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory— his daughter, Vickie Vincent (Toby) of  Chalybeate, Regina Douglas of Bowling Green and Lora Webb (Red) of Whitesville; grandchildren, Brooke Morris (Ashley), Nathan Vincent (Kristen), Amanda VanMeter, Tyler Meredith (Stephanie), Morgan White (Shawn) and Jacob Webb; sister, Carolyn Douglas; brother, Mac Douglas and fourteen great-grandchildren. Michael A. Sanders, age 69 of Brownsville, departed this life on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 in Glasgow. The Edmonson County native was born on December 11, 1953 to the late Mitch and Nora Page Sanders Massey.

Mike was a welder and a member of the Pipe Fitters Union. He was saved at Pleasant Union United Baptist Church when he was twelve years old.

Cynthia Suann “Cindy” Davis Keeling, 42, of Scottsville passed away at 3:28 PM Feb. 6, 2023 at The Medical Center at Scottsville.
 
Born Aug 18, 1980 in Bowling Green, she was a member of the 1998 Allen County-Scottsville High School class and a QA Leader at Sumitomo. She was the daughter of the late Stephen Bruce “Steve” Davis and Frances Jean Bledsoe Davis.
 
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Friday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hawkins Cemetery. Visitation will take place 4-7 PM Thursday and after 9:00 AM Friday.

Lucinda Gail “Cindy” Proffitt, age 61 of Glasgow, passed away on January 31, 2023, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville. The Barren County native was born on April 11, 1961 to the late Gayle Ross Proffitt and Lucinda Frances Phillips Proffitt, who survives.

Cindy was a 1981 graduate of Barren County High School and was a member of Dry Fork Church of Christ.  She thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors, listening to music, and spending valued time with her friends at Glasgow Adult Day Care.

Besides her mother, she leaves to honor her memory— a daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Mills; grandchildren, Rosalyn Raven Sasveld and Kaiser Timothy Eugene Bowles; sisters, Nancy Darlene Key and Norma Rae Combs; brother, Ricky Wayne Proffitt; sister-in-law, Kim Proffitt-Burks, along with a nephew and nieces, Harley Thomas Combs, Mary Frances Key, and Avery Gwen Proffitt-Burks. Paul Stake, age 61, of Glasgow, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky. The Glen Ridge, NJ native was born on May 10, 1961 to Ann Guffey Black and the late Gordon Stake, Sr.

Paul graduated from Wall High School in Wall Township, NJ and moved to Glasgow in 1986. Paul was often described as one of the funniest people you'd ever know. He had a love for sports, was a huge fan of Kentucky Wildcats and always loved watching “the game”. He enjoyed food and eating out  and would finish anything you “weren't going to eat”.  Paul’s sense of humor would light up a room and he made friends everywhere he went.

Paul is survived by his wife, Vonda Crews of Glasgow; parents, Ann and Fred Black of Drakes Branch, VA; brothers, Gordon Stake, Jr. (Patti) and Fred Black; sisters, Liz Quinlan (Mark), Michele Hall (James), Diana Shay (Patrick) and Linda Black; many nieces, nephews and good friends. Besides his father, he was also preceded in death by his step mother, Carol Stake.

Kenneth  Edward “Kenny” Stewart, age 67 of Brownsville, departed this life on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at his residence. The Edmonson County native was born on February 9, 1955 to the late Charles and Mavis Stewart. He was united in marriage for 45 years to Regina Kay Wingfield Stewart.

Kenny was a former school teacher and a member of Chalybeate United Baptist Church. He enjoyed pottery, painting, gun collecting and spoiling his grandsons.

In addition to his wife, Regina Kay, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Kris Stewart (Valerie) and Kelli Skaggs both of Brownsville; grandsons, Andre Lee Hunter, Ethan Kyle Skaggs, Alijah Kenneth Stewart and Pierce Evan Skaggs; several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
