Naomi Williams, age 93 of Sweeden, traded her earthly tabernacle for one not made with hands on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Edmonson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Edmonson County native was born November 13, 1931, to the late Everett and Nancy “Mama Nannie” Conway Wilkins. 

For many years, Naomi served as an office administrator with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Human Services, where she was a caring advocate for those in need. Yet, beyond her professional accomplishments, it was her deep-rooted faith and profound love for her heritage that truly defined her. As the oldest member of Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church, Naomi was a pillar of strength for her church and family. She will often be remembered for her devout Christian values, her strong belief in the power of prayer, and her angelic voice singing spiritual hymns such as "Child of the King" and "Hallelujah What a Morning” with her precious sisters. 

Naomi fulfilled many roles, but she was most proud of being a mother, Mamaw Am, M, and Aunt Oma to those she treasured most. Countless memories were made during family gatherings, where stories and laughter were shared, songs were sung and inevitably, the family bowed to pray. 

She leaves to honor her memory— her son and daughter-in-law, Edd and Sherry Williams of Sweeden; beloved grandchildren, Jonathan Williams (Whitney) and Jessica Madison (Travis) all of Brownsville; great-grandchildren, Cariann, Camden, Catherine and Chloe Williams and Ella and Emory Madison; nephews and niece, Jerry Patton (Marilyn), Sam Shaw (Barbara), Steve Patton (Jeanne) and Kathy Wahman, along with her great nephews, nieces and extended family members that will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her best friends, her sisters and their husbands, Frankie and Virgil Shaw, Nola Patton and Wanda and Robert “Pop” Mason; nephew, Donnie Wahman, and great-great nephew, Braeden Combs.

Oda Sanders, age 91 of the Pig community, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at his residence. The Edmonson County native was born on March 9, 1933 to the late Rev. Charlie and Mellie Highbaugh Sanders. He was married to his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Rosa Lee Cook Sanders, who survives.

Oda was known for his self-reliance and tireless work ethic as a farmer. His connection to the land was not merely professional; it was a profound expression of his values. Throughout his life, he embraced nature, finding joy in gardening, fishing, fox, bird and rabbit hunting. These hobbies provided him with a deep sense of peace and fulfillment.

His dedication extended beyond agriculture; Oda bravely served his country in the U.S. Army, embodying the spirit of service and sacrifice. Following his military service, he became an influential spiritual leader in his community. He proudly served as a deacon at Cedar Springs United Baptist Church, where he was dedicated to working for the Lord, letting his light shine, and always seeking to help others find salvation. He was originally a member of McLure Masonic Lodge #539 F&AM, and remained committed as a member of Washington Meredith Masonic Lodge #355 F&AM. His involvement in Masonic activities reflected his values of brotherhood, charity, and integrity.

Besides his wife, Rosa Lee, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Timmey Sanders (Kathy) of Pig, Penny Bennett (Chip) and Tony Sanders (Kim), all of Cedar Springs; grandchildren, Timmey Sanders, Jr. (Daphne), April Kenney, Nathan Sanders (Melissa), Faith Ann Haynes (Adam) and Lillee Ashton Sanders; great-grandchildren, Brendalynn Kenney, Jayde Sanders, Kathryn Kenney, Bentlee Sanders and Maylee Haynes, Bennett Haynes, Maverick Sanders and Carter Haynes; sisters, Betty Childress and Cleo Brown (Bill). He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Cora S. Turner, Daphna Sanders, Barbara Watt, Christine Gipson, Delda Sanders, Josie Taylor, Clarence Sanders, Japeth Sanders, Duel Sanders and Billy Lee Sanders.

The interment will be in Hawkins Cemetery.

Tyler James Isaac Johnson, 20, of Mammoth Cave passed away Feb. 21, 2025 at his home.

The Edmonson County native was a son of James Jeremiah “J.J.” Johnson of Mammoth Cave and the late Kimberly Michelle Meredith Johnson. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gary and Sandy Johnson and his maternal grandmother, Gayle Lynn Meredith.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will take place 2-7 PM Thursday and after 9:00 AM Friday.

Also surviving are a brother, Gavin Lee Johnson of Brownsville; maternal grandfather, Rodney Meredith of Leitchfield; three uncles, Allen Meredith, Gary Johnson and Steve Johnson; and six special cousins, Sabrina Williams, Brayden Williams, Dallas Williams, Avie Lynn Williams, Isaac Meredith and Dakota Johnson.

Beuford Richards, age 85 of Bowling Green, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. The Edmonson County native was born on March 8, 1939 to the late Autrey and Donna Lindsey Richards. He was married to his loving wife of sixty-two years, Verna Lindsey Richards, until the Lord called her home on February 15, 2019. 

Beuford dedicated many years of his life to working at Ralston Purina, and after his retirement, he embraced new opportunities in construction with Division 9 Finishers. He also took pride at one time owning a country store, Richards Grocery, in Wingfield. Known as a jack of all trades, Beuford had the remarkable ability to take on any challenge that came his way. His greatest joy came from spending precious moments with his family, where he would share his love for music by playing guitar and singing harmonies. He found peace in the beauty of nature through fishing and delighted in riding his walking horses. Beuford's diverse passions and cherished relationships truly defined his life. Above all, he loved the Lord, and was a member of Fairview United Baptist Church.

He leaves to honor his memory— his children, Dennis Richards of Bowling Green and Karen King (Tony) of Wingfield; grandchildren, Jamie Wilson (Jessica) and Amy Smith; great-grandchildren, Gavin Rowe, Reece Wilson, Addie and Rylan VanMeter; siblings, Overt Richards, Jimmie Richards (Kathy), Tommie Richards (Lola) and Oneta Simpson (Jerry); his companion, Nancy Reuter, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins that he adored. Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Glenn Alan Richards; siblings, Jerry and Larry Richards and Dottie Minton, and his daughter-in-law, Patricia Richards.

The interment will be in Fairview Church Cemetery.

Celia Meredith Dorman, age 64 of Park City, departed this life on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, KY. The Edmonson County native was born on December 4, 1960 to the late Kenneth and Laverne Jaggers Meredith.

As a loving homemaker, she found joy in nurturing her garden, where vibrant flowers and fresh vegetables flourished under her care. She delighted in tending to her chickens, watching them roam freely as they contributed fresh eggs to her kitchen. Her passion for cooking resulted in a variety of delicious meals that brought family and friends together. Additionally, she loved eating out and the thrill of hunting for bargains, uncovering hidden treasures.

She leaves to honor her memory—her children, Jeremiah Jorgensen (Sheila) of Elizabethtown, Meredith Buckingham and Jacob Dorman, both of Bowling Green; grandchildren, Myah Jorgensen, Elijah Jorgensen, Lauren Buckingham, Katherine Jorgensen and Hailey Buckingham, and her siblings, Kenny Meredith (Dara) of Cub Run and Timmy Meredith (Janet) of Park City. Philip Jessie, age 86 of Bowling Green, passed peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by family. Born on July 8, 1938, in Barren County, Kentucky, to the late Clarence and Eunice Fields Jessie, Philip's life was one marked by kindness, dedication, and a deep sense of love for his family and friends. He was married to his best friend and devoted wife of sixty-three years, Della Minyard Jessie, who survives. 

Philip retired as a route salesman from Dolly Madison, where he built numerous friendships. In addition to his professional endeavors, he made significant contributions to his community as a faithful member of Cedar Hill United Baptist Church, where he served diligently as a deacon. His devotion to his faith was evident in the way he lived a Christian life, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need.

His dedication extended beyond his profession and church. He was also a proud veteran, drafted into the United States Army in 1961, just six weeks after marrying. Philip served during the critical time of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a testament to his patriotism and bravery.

Philip’s personal passions brought joy not only to his life but also to those of his family and friends. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, seeking adventure on the open road and making unforgettable memories along the journey. Weekend camping trips with his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Gracie, were a cherished tradition, as he enjoyed nature and sharing laughter around the campfire. In moments of quiet, he found joy in whittling wood and the craftmanship of making ceramics. His legacy of love, faith, and passion for life will continue to inspire all who knew him. 

Besides his wife, Della, he leaves to honor his memory— Greg Jessie (Sissie) of Smiths Grove and Tina Glasscock (Scotty) of Bowling Green; grandchildren, Adam Morgan (Tiffanie), Colby Glasscock (Lauren), Seth Glasscock (Leah) and Britton Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Anniston Glasscock, Arizona Glasscock and Tenlie Morgan; great-great grandchild, Braelynn Floyd; brother, Dan Jessie (Gracie), along with several nieces and nephews. Georgia Mae Johnson, age 90 of Brownsville, peacefully departed this life at The Medical Center at Bowling Green on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. The Edmonson County native was born on April 18, 1934 to the late Conard and Mae Davis. She was married to her devoted husband, James Walter Johnson, until his passing on March 16, 2013. 

Georgia was a warm and nurturing soul who dedicated herself to being a homemaker. With a kind heart, she created a warm and loving environment for her family. In her leisure time, she found joy in crocheting intricate patterns and immersing herself in coloring projects that sparked her creativity. She was a member of New Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she found the most peace. 

She leaves to honor her memory— Michael Johnson (fiancee’ Sheila) of Chalybeate and her siblings, Catherine Sue Vincent of Sweeden, Linda Renfrow of Brownsville and Sammy Parker (Jewell) of Louisville. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Navajo Vincent, Evelyn Carroll, Flora Ann Browning, Wynelia Cassady, Elizabeth Vincent, Kenton Davis and Robert Davis.

Bernice Jaggers Carroll, 87, of Bee Spring passed away Feb. 3, 2025 at The Hospice House in Bowling Green. 

The Edmonson County native was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View United Baptist Church in Horse Cave. She was a daughter of the late Elza Jaggers and Ella Self Jaggers and the wife of the late Otis Carroll. She was preceded in death by a son, Lannie Carroll; five sisters, Lilly Phillips, Mary Vincent, Leora Meredith, Red Meredith and Lorraine Blanton; and three brothers, Raymond Jaggers, Lester Jaggers and Romer Jaggers.
 
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday at Pleasant View United Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place 3-7 PM Thursday and 3-7 PM Friday at Gravil Funeral Home and after 9:00 AM Saturday at the church.
 
Surviving are a son, Keith Carroll (Kathy) of Bee Spring; a daughter, Marsha Skaggs (Kyle) of Sweeden; seven grandchildren, Adam Carroll, Colby Carroll (Tiffany), Brandon Carroll (Beth), Landon Carroll (Ashton), Kyle Carroll (Rachel), Jessica Meredith and Jacob Hurt; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

George Bruce Corrie, III, age 78 of Smiths Grove, departed this life on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY. Born on July 27, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Sara and George Bruce Corrie, Jr., he dedicated his life to the wonders of nature, particularly through his career as a park ranger at Mammoth Cave National Park. He was married to his loving wife and best friend, Theresa Perkins Corrie, who survives. 

George’s tenure as a park ranger was not merely a job; it was a true calling that reflected his deep love for the great outdoors and the majestic mystery of caves. Known for his infectious passion for exploring subterranean realms, George was an avid caver whose enthusiasm inspired many to appreciate the miraculous creations found beneath the Earth’s surface. His extensive knowledge and love for the environment made him a respected figure among his peers and a trusted guide for countless visitors who strolled through the park he called home.

Throughout his life, George achieved numerous accolades indicative of his commitment to historical preservation, caving and environmental conservation. During his thirty-eight years of dedicated service to the National Park Service, he also worked seasonally at Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and Florida’s Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. He proudly held the distinction of being a life member of the National Speleological Society, served as a former board member of Lost River Cave, and was a member of the ESSO Grotto. In recognition of his contributions to the community and the state of Kentucky, George was honored with the title of Kentucky Colonel, a testament to his character and commitment to service.

George’s profound appreciation for nature and its beauty resonated with everyone around him. He was known for his genuine kindness and the way he embraced life’s adventures. While George has departed from this world, the impact he made on those who had the honor of knowing him will be felt for years to come. His legacy, woven through the tales of every cave he explored and every young caver he inspired, will remain a guiding light for future generations passionate about the outdoors.

The interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Betty Jane McGrew, age 81 of Caneyville, departed this life on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at her residence. The Edmonson County native was born on March 19, 1943 to the late Melvin Lee and Mary Louise McGrew. 

Betty loved her family and took great pride in her role as a housewife and mother. In her leisure time, she delighted in hunting for bargains, reveling in the thrill of flea markets, savoring meals at her favorite restaurants, and taking scenic drives through the picturesque countryside. She also cherished the peaceful moments spent fishing by the water, where she could relax and connect with nature. She was a member of Christian Home General Baptist Church, where she attended in her younger years. 

She leaves to honor her memory— her children, Peggy Jane Browning of Bee Spring and Neil Browning (Jennifer) of Richmond; grandchildren, Stephanie Meredith, Richard Smith, Linda Torrence (Anthony), Ryelle Browning, Ryan Browning and Ryder Browning; great-grandchildren, Russell Parsons, Jr., Lyric Torrence, Eli Smith and Daniel Smith and a great-great granddaughter, Emberlynn Parsons. Sharon Ann Bradford, 79, of Sweeden passed away Feb. 1, 2025 at her home. 

The Jeffferson County native was a realtor, was co-owner/operator of The Bradford Pair and a member of Community Church at Cedar Springs. She was a daughter of the late Roy Hazelip and Goldia Mae Saling Hazelip and the wife of the late Ronald David “Ron” Bradford. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin Hazelip, John Hazelip and Bobby Hazelip; and a sister, Evelyn Hazelip.
 
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will take place 3:00-7:00 PM Wednesday and after 10:00 AM Thursday.
 
Surviving are two daughters, April Prewitt (Ritchie) of Sweeden and Wendi Scott (Chad) of Bowling Green; a son, Shawn Hogan (Kelly) of Hendersonville, NC; a sister, Fran Fischer of Louisville;  eight grandchildren, Jeff Prewitt, Matt Prewitt, Brian Prewitt, Zack Hogan, Chase Hogan, Dara Prewitt, Joshua Carr, Josiah Prewitt and Becca Carr; and seven great grandchildren.
