Geraldine Wells, age 75, of Park City, KY, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at her home. She was born March 28, 1941 in Harrison Co., IN to the late Raymond Oliver Hoten and the late Lillian Wetzel Hoten and was married to Billy Wells who survives.

She was a housewife and a member of Cedar Springs United Baptist Church.

Besides her husband she leaves to honor her memory, one son Danny Wells (Marilyn) of Brownsville; three daughters, Kathy Sanders (Timmey) of Brownsville, Lisa Hampton of Bon Ayr, Susan Bunch (John) of Alvaton; two sisters, Joyce Magner of French Lick, IN and Diana Baker of Campbellsburg, IN; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by  two daughters, Joan Daugherty and Sherry Byrns.

Interment will be in Hawkins Cemetery.

​Christopher L. Holder, age 57, of Horse Cave, KY, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Nashville, TN. He was born April 17, 1959 in Louisville, KY to the late Carl Othel Holder and Celia Beck Holder. He was married to Tammy Holder who survives.

Christopher was the owner of Coffey’s Concrete, former Mayor of Cave City and former member of the Cave City Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Cave City Masonic Lodge #790 F&AM and Cave City Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory, two daughters, Christy Holder– McKinney (Brandon) of Elizabethtown and Alyssa Meagan Holder (Sam) of Horse Cave; one son, Thomas Colton Atwell (Katie) of Cave City; two brothers, Ricky Holder (Janet) of Cave City and Todd Holder (Missy Jo) of Woodburn; two sisters, Gloria Childress (Lee) of Okolona and Agnes Earleen of Louisville; five grandchildren, Gage McKinney, Zaleigh Lamb, Briaunna Holder, Camden Atwell and Teigan Atwell.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Carl Dwight Holder.

Interment will be in Cave City Cemetery.

Sara Elizabeth Renfro, age 90, of Brownsville, KY departed this life on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at her residence. The Willard, TN.  native was born on June 14, 1926 to  the late John Harris Nollner and Mary Elizabeth “Sadie” Browning Nollner.  She was lovingly and faithfully married on April 4, 1953 to the late Roy K. Renfro. 

Sara was a homemaker and bookkeeper for 40 years at Middlestate Tile Company and a member of Beaver Dam Chapel United Baptist Church.

She is survived by her two sons, Gale Renfro (Karen) of Chalybeate and Dale Renfro (Beth) of Brownsville; son-in-law, Stephen Lynn King of Brownsville; one grandson, Caleb Renfro; five granddaughters, Maegan Renick (Robbie), Emily Vincent (Cody), Jessica Sumpter (James), Lydia Renfro and Madeline Renfro and two great grandchildren, Abigail Scarlet Vincent and William Clay Renick.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nathan G. and James B. Nollner and her loving daughter, Brenda Faye King.

Interment will be in  Hawkins cemetery.

Most Reverend John Jeremiah McRaith, Bishop of the Diocese of Owensboro from 1982 to 2009, died the morning of Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the age of 82.

John was born in Hutchinson, Minnesota on December 6, 1934 to Arthur Luke McRaith and Marie Hanley McRaith. He grew up with three siblings; James, Jane and Margaret Mary. He graduated from St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of New Ulm, Minnesota, on February 21, 1960. In 1982, he was ordained as the third Bishop of the Diocese of Owensboro.

In addition to shepherding the Catholic Church of western Kentucky, Bishop McRaith served as board member for Brescia University, the Daniel Pitino Center, McAuley Free Clinic in Owensboro, and Lourdes Hospital Foundation in Paducah.

Bishop McRaith was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marie McRaith; his brother, James “Jim” McRaith; his sister, Jane Moening; niece, Shannon Ekeren-Moening; and nephew, Barry McRaith.

He is survived by his sister, Margaret Mary Madden and the following nieces and nephews: Molly Wahlgren, Meaghen Madden-VanDyke, Matthew Madden, Mary Elizabeth Lehman, Tim McRaith, Dan McRaith, Brian Moening, and Sarah Moening.

On Thursday, March 23, a tractor-pulled wagon will process with the body of Bishop McRaith from Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory (900 Old Hartford Rd.) to St. Stephen Cathedral (610 Locust St.). Mass at the Cathedral will take place at 12:05 PM with public visitation following until 8 PM. A Wake Service is scheduled for 6 PM at the Cathedral. On Friday, March 24, public visitation will take place at the Cathedral from 8 – 10:45 AM, with a Funeral Mass at 11 AM.

Archbishop Joseph Kurtz from the Archdiocese of Louisville will preside with Bishop William F. Medley as concelebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Joseph in Maple Mount, Kentucky.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Diocese of Owensboro in support of charitable work across the diocese and to Catholic Relief Services.

​Anne Meredith, 86, of Bee Spring passed away at 7:45 PM March 16, 2017 at Greenwood Nursing and Rehab in Bowling Green.

The Winston-Salem NC native was a teacher's aide with Edmonson county Schools, a foster grandparent, a member of The Church of God in Winston-Salem, and attended Jock United Baptist Church for over 50 years.

​She was a daughter of the late H. E. Hill and Judith Welchell Hill and the wife of the late Ford W. Meredith.

Funeral will be at 2:00 PM Sunday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Washington Meredith Cemetery. Visitation will be 12-5 Saturday and after 10 AM Sunday.

Surviving are two sons, Terry Meredith (Donna) of Brownsville and Philip Meredith of Bee Spring; a daughter, Lisa Price (Phil) of Bowling Green; six grandchildren, Robbie Meredith (Katia), Craig Meredith (Dona), Shelly Meredith (Brian), Kelly Meredith-Michie (Chris), Andy Price and Lee Price; five great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

​Douglas Paul Rich, 74 of Mammoth Cave passed away peacefully Sunday morning March 12 at his home. 
Born in Edmonson County, Paul was the son of the late Carl Rex Rich and Ruby Burba Rich.  He was a retired welder from Campbells Hausfeld.  Paul was a basket maker, a member of the Mammoth Cave Basket Maker Skilled and the Stockholm Baptist Church.
 
He is survived by his wife Vennie Webb Rich, one son Paul Michael Rich & wife Amanda of Gabe, KY; two sisters, Joyce Gonterman & husband Ron of Cub Run, Janice Stocking of Henderson, nieces & nephews & great-nieces & nephews also survive.
 
Funeral services for Douglas Paul Rich will be 11am Wednesday, at the Stockholm Baptist Church with burial in the Stockholm Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8pm at the Sego Funeral Home and after 9am Wednesday at the Stockholm Baptist Church until time for services at 11am.  

​Lee Logan, 91 of Bowling Green died Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Signature Health Care.

The Warren County native was a son of the late Robert and Maggie Pearl Booker Logan and is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Graham Logan. He was a press operator for Hinton Cleaners and a member of Boiling Springs Church of Christ. 

His survivors include his son, Darrell Lee Logan; two granddaughters, Sondra Melissa Spalding and Jennifer Denise Mahnke; one brother, Louis Logan; two sisters, Frances Shaw and Patricia Green; four nieces, Dora Cowles and husband William, Connie Colson and husband Marc, Eva Graham Meredith and Eva S. Graham; one nephew, Wayne Graham and wife Becky.

​Jimmy D. Stice, age 79, of Chalybeate, KY departed this life on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at his residence.  The Edmonson County native was born on September 4, 1937 to the late Lawrence and Lucy Logsdon Stice.  He was married to his devoted wife and best friend, Evonia Watt Stice, who survives. 

He owned and operated Jimmy’s Auto Service in Brownsville.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and was a member of Pleasant Union United Baptist Church.  Jimmy was most proud of his family, and thoroughly enjoyed southern gospel music. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Jeff Stice (Stacey) of Chalybeate; two daughters, Terri Stice and Kelli Brooks (Scott) both of Chalybeate; four grandchildren, Alison Lile (Stephen), Natalie Stice, Nicholas Stice (Michelle) and Caleb Brooks; two step grandchildren,  Mattie and Braxton Stearns; three great grandchildren, Gracie Lile, Jacob Stice Lile and Sophia Lile; one brother, Sam Stice; one sister, Joyce Stice; two half brothers, Harold Howard and Chris Stice and two half sisters, Tina Giriden and Reba May. 

Interment will be in Pleasant Union Church Cemetery with military honors by Brownsville VFW Post 6937.

​Kay Shockley-Rowe, age 67 , of Park City, KY, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 in Louisville, KY. She was born December 25, 1949 in Monroe County, KY to the late Cleon Shockley and Lorene Moss Shockley. She was married to Barry Rowe who survives.

Kay was a respiratory therapist and was of the Baptist Faith.

Besides her husband, she leaves to honor her memory, three sons, Derek Shockley (Aimee) of Glasgow, KY, Jeff Rowe (Rebecca Fulkerson) of Cave City, KY, and Kenny Rowe (Michelle) of Park City, KY; one daughter, Amanda Rowe of Park City, KY; one sister, Shirley Emmert of Westmoreland, TN; six grandchildren, Drew Shockley, Haley Shockley, Maddison Whittle, Charles Rowe, Dewey Rowe, Denise Rowe and two nephews, Clinton Emmert (Cindy) and John Emmert. She was also preceded in death by one brother, William Gene Shockley and one nephew, Gene Emmert.

Morgan Bernard Holder, Sr., 60 of Bowling Green died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Rexy and Deloris Morris Holder.  He was a construction worker, a member of St. John's Parrish.  He loved fishing, bowling and pool. 

His survivors include his wife Fay Holder; daughter, Sarah Alexander; son, Morgan Bernard Holder, Jr.; step son, Michael Smith; step daughter, Andrea Smith; two grandchildren, Kevin Michael Romack and Jordan Evette Shideler; two sisters, Ruthann Brown and Gayle Holder; one brother, Donald Holder; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

​Jimmy Day, age 72 , of Cave City, KY, departed this life on March 2, 2017 in Nashville, TN.  The Hart County native was born on April 16, 1944 to the late Leonard Day and Leetha Thompson.

Jimmy worked for the Hart County Ambulance Service as an EMT and was of the Baptist Faith. 

He leaves to honor his memory, two sons Rev. Terry Day (Deidre) of Munfordville, KY and Jason Day (Cindy) of Cub Run, KY and six grandchildren, Kelsey, Trent, Logan, Cameron, Alyssa and Jacie.

​Marissa Vardy, age 45, of Fort Lee, VA departed this life on Saturday, February 18, 2017.  The Lockbourne Ohio Air Force Base native was born October 18, 1971 to Mike and Gloria Meredith. She was married to James “Rob” Vardy, Jr. who survives.

Marissa was a housewife and mother to her children.  She was also a member of Hurlwood Baptist Church in Lubbock, TX.

Besides her husband and parents, she leaves to honor her memory her children, James “JJ” Vardy, III and Maddelynn M. Vardy, both of Fort Lee, VA; two brothers, Mike Meredith (Tanya) and Matt Meredith (Cindy); one sister, Michelle Rigg (Kyle); one great nephew and several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

​Bernice Jackson, 83, of Brownsville passed away at 11:57 AM March 1, 2017 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
 
The Brintson, GA native was a registered nurse at Joywells Retirement Home and Greenview Hospital and was a member of Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Henry Jasper Yawn and Eliza Jane Harvel Yawn and the wife of the late Marion R. Jackson. She was preceded in death by a son, Randy Jackson.
 
Funeral will be at 2:00 PM Sunday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 PM Saturday and after 9 AM Sunday.
 
Surviving are three sons, Robert Jackson and Richard Jackson (Karen) both of Brownsville and Ronnie Jackson of Mammoth Cave; a daughter, Marilyn Jackson of Brownsville; five grandchildren, David Jackson, Rachelle Jackson, Jessica Wallace, Sarah Jackson and Andrew Jackson; and five great grandchildren.
