Anthony Dalton "Tony" Raymer, 70, of Brownsville passed away at 12:07 AM Thursday March 29, 2018 at UK Medical Center in Lexington with his daughters at his side.
The Edmonson County native was a heavy equipment operator and a farmer. He was a son of the late Clem Raymer and Byrd Dalton Raymer. He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Dalton Raymer; two brothers, Knightie Raymer and Eunell Raymer; and a sister, Freeda Raymer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Monday and after 9:00 AM Tuesday. Surviving are two daughters, Suzan Raymer Nunn (Michael) of Bowling Green and Toni Michelle Wood (D.J.) of Brownsville; a brother, Geourman Raymer of Brownsville; two sisters, Brenda Faye Raymer of Louisville and Veneta Raymer of New York; three grandchildren, Reagan Nunn, Lyla Wood and Liam Wood; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret Jean Hayes VanMeter, 79, of Bee Spring, passed on to her Heavenly home, with her family by her side, on March 26, 2018 at the Medical Center.
The Edmonson County native was a housewife, beloved mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Bee Spring Missionary Baptist Church. She was born December 11, 1938 to the late Gilbert and Carrie Harp Hayes. She was married for 39 years to the late Arnold L. VanMeter until his death in October 1995. Funeral will be at 2:00 PM Friday, March 30 at Bee Spring Missionary Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Christian Home General Baptist Church Cemetery. Essie Hayes (Lola May); a sister-in-law: Lola Hayes; and a brother-in-law: Jim Wilson. Ray Ramsey, age 89, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Thursday, (March 22, 2018) at his home.
He was born on September 22, 1928 in Riverton, IL, the son of the late Esthus D and Cora Mae Leach Ramsey. He was a retired farmer, school bus driver for 50 years, truck driver and retired from the local ASC office, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, working jigsaw puzzles and was an avid UK fan and was a 50 year member of the Leitchfield Masonic Lodge and a 64 year member and deacon of the Little Clifty Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Cuba Jean Wadlington Ramsey, two sons, Mike Ramsey (Patty) of Chalybeate KY, and Glen Ray Ramsey Jr (Sharon) of Clarkson, two daughters, Glenda Brocato (Brock) of Louisville and Nancy Kiper (Otis) of Leitchfield seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Cecil and James Ramsey. Jerry began his walk with Jesus in 1956. He was a devout Christian, member and deacon of New Salem General Baptist Church. He retired after forty-five years as a foreman of the Laborers International Union of North American Local Number 1392. Jerry loved his work and took pride in his part in constructing many structures on Western Kentucky University’s campus. Jerry married the love of his life, Frances Stewart, on June 12, 1959. This union brought forth four children who honor his memory— one son, Jeff Meredith of Bee Spring and his three daughters, Donna Skidmore (Michael) of Smiths Grove, Ronna Smith (Kerry) of Paducah and Vanessa Vaughn (Dean) of Bowling Green. He is further survived by seven grandchildren, Whitney Howard (Michael), Brandon Skidmore, Steffan Meredith, Dillon Meredith, Clay Meredith (McKenna), Mallory Lane Vaughn and Maggie Smith and two great grandchildren, Laynee Meredith and Ella Beth Meredith. Jerry was a dedicated family man and his greatest joy was time spent with Frances and his children. Interment will be in New Salem Church Cemetery. He coached baseball and football in Warren County for over twenty years, and was a member of the Warren County Youth Football Hall of Fame.
