Alfred Vincent, of Leitchfield, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Thursday March 21, 2024.
He lived 95 glorious years and is survived by his Son, Alfred (Coleman) Vincent; his sister, Margaret Rose Vincent-Rigdon and her Husband, Elvin; his Grandchildren, Maggie Vincent and James Shipman; and enough Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends to fill the pages of a very large book. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Vincent; his son, Gary Dale Vincent; his parents, Ezra and Zelma Armes-Vincent; his siblings, Balus, Geneva, Oliver Wendell, Waneda Frances, Virginia Alice, Gertrude, Franklin Delano, Silas Merriel, Roma, Lester Burriel and Polly Ann. Alfred served in the US Army from 1946-1948 and spent much of that time after World War II in occupied Japan. He worked for Lorillard in Louisville and after retirement bought a farm and built a house outside Leitchfield. He spent many hours in his retirement at Brownsville Karaoke Stars with Patty Forbes and all of his dear friends. The “Dancing Karaoke King” of Brownsville has left the building! The family would also like to thank his caretakers, Essence Echols and Phyllis Downs for helping us care for Alfred and allowing us to bring him home from the hospital. A short visitation at 10:00 AM and funeral ceremony at 1:00 PM will take place on Saturday April 6th, 2024 at South Union General Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery located at Hwy 187 (Shrewsbury Rd) and Hwy 1075 (Sunny Point Rd). Emogene Madison, age 95 of Park City, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, March 25, 2024 at The Hospice House in Bowling Green. The Barren County native was born on July 17, 1928 to the late Owsley “O.B.” and Ellen Smith Boyd. She was married for 61 years to the late Horace “Rocky” Madison, who preceded her in death December 21, 2010. Emogene was a former beautician and owner of Emogene’s Beauty Shop. She also worked at Wondering Woods, and as a teachers' aide for Barren County Schools. She was the oldest living member of Park City United Methodist Church. She leaves to honor her memory-- her children, Peggy Christy of Park City and Gary David Madison (Betsy) of Bowling Green; grandchildren, David Madison (Chrystal), Chris Madison (Sandra), Brandon Christy (Myrisa) and Lindsay Christy; step grandchildren, Jacob Stevens (Cara) and Tyler Stevens (Shelbie); great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Madison (Austin), Fox Christy, River Christy and Hayden Evans; step great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Joseph, Abigail, John, Jude, and Julian Stevens; great-great granddaughter, Madilyn Jones; sister-in-law, Jeanette Coates, along with several nieces and nephews. The Edmonson County native was born on July 9, 1941 to the late Wilbert and Millie Gipson Bewley. She was married to her devoted and loving husband, M.A. Napier, who survives.
Clara worked for many years as a housewife, and in the cafeteria at Warren East High School. She was a faithful member of Chalybeate United Baptist Church, until recent months when her health began to fail. Clara was a wonderful, Christian example for others to follow. She loved the Lord, and her church family beyond measure. She lived a Godly life, and was always willing to help bear her neighbors, family's, and friends' burdens. Besides her husband, M.A., she leaves to honor her memory— her children, Shelia Sullivan (Dennis) of Bowling Green and James Napier of Chalybeate; five grandchildren, Jennifer Vincent (Jeremy), David Sullivan (Angela), Amber Webb (Chris), Dustan Napier and Cassie Larson; four great-grandchildren, Colton, Lillie, and Easton Webb, and Hannah Vincent; two brothers, James “Tinker” Bewley and Ralph Bewley (Linda), along with several nieces and nephews. Bobby was saved at the age of fourteen during a revival in Shepherdsville, KY. He served our country as a pipefitter for the U.S. Navy. He was aboard the U.S.S. Brooke during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he took to farming and continued working as a pipefitter. Besides his wife, Gloria Faye, he leaves to honor his memory— three children, Mary Houchens (J.J.) of Roundhill, Angela D. Bryan had a heart of gold, and gained the greatest pleasures by giving to those in need, schools and charities such as St. Jude Children’s Hospital, operation food search and the local senior food pantry. John Gary was a member of Poplar Spring United Baptist Church, and sang bass with his family quartet, The Madison Brothers, for countless church and funeral services. He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era, and through the prayers of his mother, Lucille, God permitted him to return back home to his family. He owned and operated Madison & Associates insurance agency for many years. John Gary was a former District Deputy Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Kentucky; a past Patron of the Order of Easter Star and past Noble Grand with the Odd Fellows Lodge. Jerry was born to Veachel and Catherine Stewart and was raised in South Community in Brownsville, Ky. Jerry was the oldest of five; the brother to four sisters. His sisters remember him as fun-loving and full of energy. He graduated from Edmonson Co. High School in 1968 and began working in construction with his dad immediately thereafter. Jerry loved working with his father in construction and on their family farm. He joined the National Guard and served 1969-1975. While working in construction he was promoted to the construction superintendent. He later moved backed to South and met his wife, Brenda, in 1992. They have been married for over 30 years. He became a grandfather in 2012 and cherished time with his four grandchildren. Specifically, the grandkids loved spending weekends with their grandparents and they loved when he would get out his guitar and sing nursery songs with them and made a game of letting them pull on his mustache to prove it was real. Jerry was also a dedicated member of South Union General Baptist Church. His church family would describe him as devoted to God and the church. He gave his life to Christ in 1960 and was baptized in a creek near his family home. He also served as the Song Leader at South Union General Baptist following in his father’s footsteps when his father passed away in 2009. He made it his job to get to the church early to heat it in the cold months and cool it in the summer in preparation for the congregation. Jerry was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. Jerry is survived by wife, Brenda, two step-children, Rachel Steckler and Charlie McGee, grandchildren: Dylan (11), Ruby (9), David and Hunter (4). He is also survived by many loving family members: His four sisters, Brenda (Keith) Lindsey, Saundra (Alan) Davis, Teresa (Garrett) Thornton and Charlene Embry along with many nieces and nephews: Chad Woodcock, Charity Mills, Allison Embry, Shauna Tyndall, Lauren Miller, John Lindsey, Sarah Pierce, Gabrielle Thornton and many great nieces and nephews. Connie Lorine Forbes, 62, of Park City passed away Tuesday March 5, 2024 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
She was a homemaker and a member of Stockholm United Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Maxie Avery and Aileen Kersey Avery. J. D. “Red” Rutherford, age 85 of Cave City, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at his residence. The Barren County native was born on October 8, 1938 to the late John Wesley “Johnny” and Lola Frances Compton Rutherford.
Red served our country in the U.S Marines. After serving for four years, he returned home, met and married the love of his life, Dasie Nannie Rutherford. Red owned and operated Mainline Enterprises as a general contractor for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, bird hunting, talking politics and piddling around his shop. Besides his wife of fifty-five years, Dasie, he leaves to honor his memory-- his daughter, Stacey Rutherford Wallace (Eric) of Cave City; bonus children, Lee Ann Anderson (Jason), Laycie, Lauryn and Rayce Mauk, along with several nieces and nephews. He was a farmer and a son of the late James Allen Carter and Ruby Della Carter. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Ray Carter; five brothers, Robert Carter, Henry Carter, Jim Carter, Kenneth Carter, and Larry Carter; and a sister, Lois McKigney. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Kinser Cemetery. Visitation will take place 10:00- 1:00 PM Tuesday. Also surviving are his nieces, Ruby Eatmon (Raymond) of Cave City, Ruth Ann Sexton (Junior Gossett) of Horse Cave, Melissa Sloan of Orlando, and Carolyn Gibson (Jerry) of Shelbyville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Carter of Horse Cave; eleven great nieces and nephews; as well as his special friends, Harold and Stacy Wester; and Debbie Crafton and her family. Ancil “Sonny” Hudson, 84, of Bowling Green passed away Friday, March 1, 2024 at his residence. He was a native of Bloomfield, KY and born April 10, 1939. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Hazel Hudson, four brothers Earl, Curtis, Harold and Kenny, three sisters Polly, Jean and Helen and one grandson Gentry Gray.
Sonny spent his younger years on a farm in Bloomfield, KY then moved to Louisville after the death of his father. He worked for International Harvester (Navistar) and later retired from the company. He has always loved hunting and especially fishing. He and his wife moved to Nolin Lake where he and Terry loved the lake life for 22 years, then moved to Bowling Green in 2003. Sonny was also an avid WKU Volleyball Fan. Survivors are his wife Terry (Daniel) Hudson, six children Bryan Hudson (Brooke), Todd Hudson (Caroline), Travis Hudson (Cindy), Bruce Hudson, Tammy Bush (Bob) and Stephanie Underwood. Nine precious grandchildren Tyler, Drew, Mallory, McLaine, Megan, Jordan, Charlie, Matt and Amy. Funeral services will be Monday, March 4, 2024 at 10:00 am at J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane. Visitation will be Sunday, 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm and Monday, 8:00 am until time of services at the funeral home. The family chose cremation.
