Bette Ann Cook Hoback, age 72, passed away peacefully on January 22 2025, in her beloved hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky, where she was born on August 10, 1952. Bette was a cherished member of her community and a loving figure to all who knew her.
Bette's life was marked by creativity and compassion. She found joy in watercolor painting, expressing her artistic spirit through the delicate strokes of her brush. Her love for animals was profound, especially for her fur babies, Sparky Michael and Meeah Lynn, along with her nephew fur baby, Cooper Joe. These companions brought her immense joy and warmth, reflecting her nurturing nature. Family was at the heart of Bette's life. She is survived by her sister, Doris Jean Shaffer (Carl Steven Shaffer) of Louisville, KY, and her three devoted children: Dana York (Josh, companion), Kim Deering, and Bill Evans. Bette's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Kody, Kaleb, Kory, Breana, Zachery, Kimbra, Jackson, Hunter, and Logan, as well as her eight great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the love and values she instilled in them. Bette was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Hoback, who resided in Florida, and her parents, Marvin (Sock) Cook and Imogene Cook. She also mourned the loss of her grandparents, Coleman Cook and Nellie Cook, and Ted and Annie Mae Toms, who all played significant roles in her life. Among her friends, Bette held a special bond with her best friend, Phyllis Woodcock Miller, who shared many cherished moments with her throughout the years. Bette Ann Cook Hoback will be remembered as a compassionate soul, an artist, and a devoted family member and friend. Her spirit will forever live in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Clara “June” Rigdon Lindsey, 84, of Roundhill passed away March 28, 2025 at her home.
The Edmonson County native was a homemaker and member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Almon Rigdon and Laura Sanders Rigdon and the wife of the late Carl Lindsey. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Willie Rigdon, Neelie Pippin, Hazel Pippin and Garland Rigdon; a granddaughter, Raven Durbin; and a great grandson, Johnny Dennison. Kenneth Embry, 90, of Huff passed away March 26, 2025 at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green.
The Edmonson County native was a self-employed cabinet maker, a member of Shopmens Iron Workers Union in Louisville and a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Ebbon Wayne Embry and Ernie Whobrey Embry. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Embry; and two brothers, Steven Denzil Embry and Roger Embry. Charles Ray Kerr, age 51 of Edmonton, departed this life on Thursday, March 20, 2025. The Hart County native was born on August 14, 1973 to Janice Fay Clark and Junior Ray Kerr, who survive.
Charles was a genuinely kind-hearted person, who cherished his family and animals. There was a perfect, God-given part of Charles, and he found the most peace when he was gathered with his family at Ollie United Baptist Church, where he was a member. Charles found joy in building model cars, and took pride as a mechanic for both cars and mowers. His playful nature brought smiles to those around him, and he often enjoyed sharing pranks that created lasting memories. Besides his parents, Janice and Junior, he leaves to honor his memory— his siblings, Melissa Kerr of Brownsville, Tommy Joe Meredith (Shanuel) of Mammoth Cave and Billy Jo Meredith of Brownsville, along with several nieces and nephews. The Yonkers, NY native was a retired employee of General Motors UAW Local 664 in North Tarrytown, NY, a member of Edmonson County Homemakers and a member of Red Hill General Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late John McPhee and Ann Sedemic McPhee. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Marie. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. The Edmonson County native was born June 9, 1948, a daughter of the late Carl York and Ida Mae Basham York. She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore Kinser; two brothers, Bobby York and Gerald York. Carolyn was a 1966 graduate of the Ahrens Trade High School where she studied Business Education. She was a member of Asphalt Church of Christ. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends and traveling on all of their many adventures. Carolyn's many laughs and smiles were contagious for all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her daughter Beverly Potter, a great great granddaughter Jordan Thomas, three brothers James Stice, Vernon Stice, and Carl Stice, a sister Brenda Nell Stice. Janet was a journalist, where she delighted herself in the creative process of writing. She also loved immersing herself in the vibrant universes of video games, relishing the challenges and adventures they offered. When she wasn’t writing or gaming, Janet could be found curled up with a captivating fantasy novel or watching anime, where her imagination would soar alongside the colorful characters and intricate plots. Mr. Dennison was an avid fisherman, construction worker, and jack of all trades. His journey in woodworking began alongside his dad, Jr., creating beautiful reproduction furniture. Keith later teamed up with his dear friend, Leonard Lillard at Carroll Cabinet Company, and then developed his own business, Keith’s Custom Cabinets before working with Kight Kitchen and Design Center. What truly set Keith apart was his warm personality! He had a special way of making everyone feel like a friend and knew how to make the most of life. His infectious smile and positive energy lit up the room and brought joy to all who knew him. Tommy proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, a time that undoubtedly shaped his character and convictions. After returning home, he and his brother took over Brooks Saw Mill, his father's cherished business, demonstrating their commitment to family and hard work. With determination, Tommy later established his own business, skillfully operating heavy equipment. Throughout his life, Tommy was a devoted member of Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he not only led singing but also served as the moderator for many years. His legacy of service, dedication, and leadership continues to inspire those who knew him. Harold worked for numerous years with American Chain and Cable. He later joined the Edmonson County School District and retired from their maintenance department. Harold was a member of Oak Grove United Baptist Church, where he contributed to the spiritual journeys of many individuals through the years. In his later days, Harold cherished the simple pleasures found swinging on his front porch. He often spent countless hours riding his tractor, and enjoying the peace and tranquility of his farm. Besides his wife, Shirley, he leaves to honor his memory— his stepson, Chris Newton (Jeanna); bonus daughter, Karen Brock (Paul); two grandchildren, Casey Baker (Chris) and Trevor Newton; bonus grandchildren, Caroline and Nick Brock; a sister, Lillian Wright; in-laws, Gerrald Luttrell, Juanita Sexton, Ronnie Glass (Louise) and Debbie Poynter (Ricky), along with several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
