The Edmonson County native was born on August 31, 1926 to the late Jesse Highbaugh and the late Lula Decker Highbaugh. She was married to Harse Sanders, who preceded her in death.

The Jefferson County native was a construction worker and contractor and a member of the National Trapshooting Association. He was a son of the late Earl Wright and Lela Best Wright Stone (Leon). Dennis left a strong legacy of family comes first and giving to others in need. He loved hunting and fishing and most of all, spending time with his family. He was born in Barren County on March 31, 1938 to the late Roger and Ella Jewell Vance Lobb. Later, he met his loving wife of forty-four years, Grace Aileen Cassady Lobb, and they raised three children together. Roland was known for his ease in friendship, with even strangers, and his contagious smile that would lighten your day. Throughout his life, he won the hearts and trust of many, who are changed by his witness and constant love and faith. He will never be forgotten for his signature gift of joy, his constant smile, laughter and joking around. Roland loved farming, driving a school bus for the Barren County School System for many years, and in the summers driving a tour bus at Mammoth Cave National Park. He served as a deacon at Rolling Hills United Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory— one son, Michael Shirley of Nashville; two daughters, Tywanna Childress (Bruce) of Bee Spring and Kayla Warren (Mike) of Johnson City, TN; one grandson, Craig Childress (Jessica Hogan); two great grandchildren, Brooklynn and Cayleb; one sister, Willa Dean Brown of Park City; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Lobb of Smiths Grove and many more beloved family members. The Warren County native was an employee of Southern States and a farmer. He was a son of the late Raymond Thomas and Gladys Wilson Thomas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Thomas. Surviving are his wife, Wilma Jean Farris Thomas; two daughters, Christy Filback (Kim) and Pam Thomas both of Brownsville; a brother, Charles Thomas (Wanda) of Jamestown; a sister, Patricia Emmitt of Richardsville; and two grandchildren, Tristan Filback and Matthew Holder. Melvin Dale “Dawson” Strange, Sr., age 88, passed from this life on April 12, 2018. God granted his prayer, allowing him to die at his home and at peace. Melvin was born in Cub Run, Kentucky, on May 4, 1929, and was “born again” in 1941 at Cherry Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
Toward the end of the Great Depression, his parents moved to Louisville to find work, settling at first in the Remount community, helping form the little Second United Baptist Church of Louisville during WWII. He worked for the L&N Railroad yard for several years & then at General Electric Appliance Park, in Building 5 Maintenance, for over 30 years. He was called by First United Baptist Church of Louisville (Longfield) to be a Deacon and was called by God to preach His word officially becoming a licensed minister in 1971. As a gospel preacher, Melvin pastored five United Baptist churches over the years, they being: Fairdale, Forest View, Beaver Dam Chapel, Mt. Zion Warren County, and Rockford View, and as assistant pastor at First United of Louisville (Longfield). Melvin was a 65-year Master Mason, also Past Master & Chaplain with Highland Park Lodge 865. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walton and Mishie West Strange, and siblings Howard Strange, Margie Middleton, Rowena Trammel, Alta Blair, Henry Strange, and Pete Strange. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 53 years, Pauline Mattingly, and wife of 10 years Sarah Wheat. He is survived by his sister, Aleen Mullins, sons Dale Strange and David Strange (Bonnie), grandchildren Michelle Butler (John), Christina Delk (Keith), and Nathan Strange, and grandchildren Zachary and Noah Butler and Jack, Emily, and Lucy Delk. Beloved by many, his gentle humility shows in his simple request to have engraved on his tombstone, “He tried.” The family wishes to thank the beloved people of Rockford View United Baptist Church and so many others for their caring devotion to Melvin in his waning years.
