Christine Bird, age 92 of Fair Oaks, CA was called home to be with our Lord on November 27, 2021. Christine was the firstborn child to Olard and Stella Mae Reedy on March 4th, 1929, in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Born a Southern Baptist, she never strayed from her faith in Jesus Christ. She took great solitude in listening to her family members singing praise songs.
She was the big sister to one brother, Fred, and six sisters, Carolyn, Judy, Wanda, Barbara Fae, Joyce Ann and Yvonne. When she was eighteen, she married Donald Booth and gave birth to two sons, Harley Eugene and Lawrence Leon Booth. In 1955, she married James Virgil Bird and gave birth to one daughter, Pamela Kay, and two sons, James Virgil, Jr. and Keenan Wayne. Christine was a rock and a survivor! She was independent, proud, strong, giving, loving and more beautiful than she knew. She had a long and meaningful life. Married for fifty-three years, she traveled to places only a few could dream of. She made many life-long friends throughout her travels and had a significant impact on all who knew her. She loved gardening and had a definite green thumb, especially with roses. She was ‘The Plant Lady’ throughout many businesses in the Sacramento area. Christine will always be remembered graciously. She is survived by her children, Harley Eugene of Sacramento CA, Pamela Kay of Seward Alaska, James Virgil Jr. of Bakersfield CA, and Keenan Wayne of Rocklin CA. Christine also had numerus grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, James Virgil Bird; her son, Lawrence Leon Booth; her siblings, Carolyn, Barbara Fae and Fred. The Edmonson County native was born on May 11, 1934 to the late Acie and Annie Cook Carroll. He was married to his wife and helpmate of 66 years, Leola Wood Carroll, who preceded him in death.
Randell was a member of Hubsfield Holiness Church, where he remained a member until his passing. He began working in construction as a young man. Randell then went on to work for Vincent Ford Dealership in Brownsville and realized his true passion was in cars. He opened Carroll Brother’s with his older brother, Elba, where they worked alongside one another for several years honing their skills in body work. Later on, Randell took over Carroll Brother’s, where he was owner and operator for over forty years. He passed this dream down to his sons and grandsons, who are still in business today. He leaves to honor his memory— his children, Reva Blanton (Arlen), Kenny Carroll (Becky) and Bobby Carroll (Jeannine) all of Bee Spring; his grandchildren, Nick Carroll (Nora), Jeana Blanton, Adam Blanton, Matthew Carroll, Josh Carroll and Rachel Carroll (Kyle); eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and one sister Texie Colley. She was married to her devoted husband of forty-two years, Bert Skaggs, until he preceded her in death on August 8, 1988.
Elaine was saved as a twelve-year-old girl at the old Midway School House. She joined Midway United Missionary Baptist Church, and was a faithful member and pillar of the church until her health recently failed her. Elaine was a homemaker and worked with her hands to provide for her family. She had a kind, gentle spirit, and her greatest desire was for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors to know and serve the Lord. She leaves to honor her memory— three daughters, Marcia Lindsey (Buster), Myra Cole and Melody Prunty (Pat); six grandchildren, Renee Webb (Eddie), Rev. Nicole was born to the late James Russell “Rusty” Gomez and Shirleen Pellegrin Conrad (Bruce) in Houma on October 15, 1974. Nicole is survived by her fiancé Rocky Hano, one daughter, Tayler McCaffrey Fichtelman (Tristan), and one granddaughter, Luna Fichtelman, one sister, Pixie Gomez Meredith (Lonnie) and one brother, Jamie Russell Gomez (Tami), along with many nieces, nephews and loved friends. Nicole was saved at Wingfield United Baptist Church on July 21, 2005, at an old time altar. She didn’t want to leave her family and loved ones, but the Lord called and Nicole went to meet Him. Nicole will truly be missed by her family and friends and all who knew her. She had a vivacious personality and an infectious laugh. “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.” A private memorial service will be held at a later date. William Frank Harper, 87 of Smiths Grove passed peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky.
The Edmonson County Kentucky native was a son of the late William Guy Harper and Delphia Opal Poteet Harper. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Veronica Lynn Gregory and granddaughter, Jessica Marie Gregory. Frank attended the Smiths Grove Methodist Church and retired from the U S Navy. His survivors include his wife, Marion Harper. Two brothers, Mike Harper and Norman Harper; three sisters, Elizabeth Swanner, Joyce Smith and Lind Gail Harper; several nieces and nephews. Donald was a barber by trade for over forty years, and was fortunate enough to work along side his brother, Ronald. Together, they owned Cowles Barber Shop, where lots of friends and memories were made. He was also a member of the Kentucky Colonels. Donald was a faithful member of Chalybeate United Baptist Church. Besides his wife he leaves to honor his memory-- his children Cynthia McDougle (Anthony), Tammy Thien, and Brian Cowles (Kim) all of Chalybeate, four grandchildren, Heather White (Kyle), Drew McDougle (Mandee), Taylor Carroll (Chad) and Evan Cowles; seven great-grandchildren, Dalton Carroll, Thomas Carroll, Knox White, Allie Decker, Lexi Decker, Honor White and Abel Carroll; three brothers, Kenneth Cowles (Linda), Ronald Cowles (Opal) and Terry Cowles (Darlene). Wayne Johnson, age 72, of Cave City, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow. The Barren County native was born on May 28, 1949 to the late Elmo Johnson and Lucille Long Johnson of Cave City.
Wayne was a former welder at FMC and most recently worked with Dennis Gossett mowing right of ways. He was a member of Servant Valley United Baptist Church. Besides his mother, he leaves to honor his memory— daughter, Kim George (Keith) of Mt.
