Christine Bird, age 92 of Fair Oaks, CA was called home to be with our Lord on November 27, 2021.  Christine was the firstborn child to Olard and Stella Mae Reedy on March 4th, 1929, in Middlesboro, Kentucky.  Born a Southern Baptist, she never strayed from her faith in Jesus Christ. She took great solitude in listening to her family members singing praise songs.

She was the big sister to one brother, Fred, and six sisters, Carolyn, Judy, Wanda, Barbara Fae, Joyce Ann and Yvonne. When she was eighteen, she married Donald Booth and gave birth to two sons, Harley Eugene and Lawrence Leon Booth. In 1955, she married James Virgil Bird and gave birth to one daughter, Pamela Kay, and two sons, James Virgil, Jr. and Keenan Wayne.

Christine was a rock and a survivor!  She was independent, proud, strong, giving, loving and more beautiful than she knew. She had a long and meaningful life. Married for fifty-three years, she traveled to places only a few could dream of.  She made many life-long friends throughout her travels and had a significant impact on all who knew her.  She loved gardening and had a definite green thumb, especially with roses.  She was ‘The Plant Lady’ throughout many businesses in the Sacramento area. Christine will always be remembered graciously.

She is survived by her children,  Harley Eugene of Sacramento CA, Pamela Kay of Seward Alaska, James Virgil Jr. of Bakersfield CA, and Keenan Wayne of Rocklin CA. Christine also had numerus grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, James Virgil Bird; her son, Lawrence Leon Booth; her siblings,  Carolyn, Barbara Fae and Fred.

Randell Carroll,  age 87 of Bee Spring, departed this life peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.  The Edmonson County native was born on May 11, 1934 to the late Acie and Annie Cook Carroll.  He was married to his wife and helpmate of 66 years, Leola Wood Carroll, who preceded him in death. 

Randell was a member of Hubsfield Holiness Church, where he remained a member until his passing. He began working in construction as a young man.  Randell then went on to work for Vincent Ford Dealership in Brownsville and realized his true passion was in cars.  He opened Carroll Brother’s with his older brother, Elba, where they worked alongside one another for several years honing their skills in body work.  Later on, Randell took over Carroll Brother’s, where he was owner and operator for over forty years.  He passed this dream down to his sons and grandsons, who are still in business today.

He leaves to honor his memory— his children, Reva Blanton (Arlen), Kenny Carroll (Becky) and Bobby Carroll (Jeannine) all of Bee Spring; his grandchildren, Nick Carroll (Nora), Jeana Blanton, Adam Blanton, Matthew Carroll, Josh Carroll and Rachel Carroll (Kyle); eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and one sister Texie Colley. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased in death by five brothers, Sherman, Wavie, Marlow, Ray and Elba Carroll; three sisters, May Lashley, Effie Lashley and Truly Carroll.

Jean Marie Clark, age 66 of Brownsville, departed this life on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Greenview Regional Hospital.  The Jefferson County native was born on April 4, 1956 to the late Bethel Earl and Wanda Jeanette Minton Carmickle. 
Jean was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ faith.

She leaves to honor her memory— her son, Jamie Scott Glass of Wingfield; her daughter, Amber Nicole “Nikki” Clark of Paducah; her siblings, Joan Norris, Bethel Eugene “Simon” Carmickle and Lawrence Earl “Larry” Carmickle; special caregiver, Ashley Wiestling, and several nieces and nephews.

Elaine Lindsey Skaggs, age 95 of Lindseyville, departed this life with her family by her side on Monday, April 25, 2022.  The Edmonson County native was born on June 9, 1926 to the late Elrie and Bertha Salings Lindsey.  She was married to her devoted husband of forty-two years, Bert Skaggs, until he preceded her in death on August 8, 1988. 

Elaine was saved as a twelve-year-old girl at the old Midway School House.  She joined Midway United Missionary Baptist Church, and was a faithful member and pillar of the church until her health recently failed her.  Elaine was a homemaker and worked with her hands to provide for her family.  She had a kind, gentle spirit, and her greatest desire was for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors to know and serve the Lord. 

She leaves to honor her memory— three daughters, Marcia Lindsey (Buster), Myra Cole and Melody Prunty (Pat); six grandchildren, Renee Webb (Eddie), Rev. Jonathan Lindsey (Dana), Amberly Alexander (Ryan), Britney Franich (Jeff), Taylor Renfro (Seth) and Kelci Prunty; ten great-grandchildren, Andrew Webb (Ashlee), Leslie Webb, Hannah Board (Bailey), Kaylee Lindsey, Lainey and Avery Alexander, Landon and Tenley Franich, Levi and Grayson Renfro; two great-great grandchildren, Jaxon and Tanner Webb; two siblings, Janice Chatfield (Rick) and Margie Browning, and a host of church family and friends.

Nicole Francis Gomez McCaffrey (Hano), 47, of Springfield, Louisiana died peacefully at her home on April 23, 2022, surrounded by friends and family.

Nicole was born to the late James Russell “Rusty” Gomez and Shirleen Pellegrin Conrad (Bruce) in Houma on October 15, 1974.

Nicole is survived by her fiancé Rocky Hano, one daughter, Tayler McCaffrey Fichtelman (Tristan), and one granddaughter, Luna Fichtelman, one sister, Pixie Gomez Meredith (Lonnie) and one brother, Jamie Russell Gomez (Tami), along with many nieces, nephews and loved friends.

Nicole was saved at Wingfield United Baptist Church on July 21, 2005, at an old time altar. She didn’t want to leave her family and loved ones, but the Lord called and Nicole went to meet Him. Nicole will truly be missed by her family and friends and all who knew her. She had a vivacious personality and an infectious laugh.

“Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.”

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

William Frank Harper, 87 of Smiths Grove passed peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky.

The Edmonson County Kentucky native was a son of the late William Guy Harper and Delphia Opal Poteet Harper.  He is preceded in death by his daughter, Veronica Lynn Gregory and granddaughter, Jessica Marie Gregory.  Frank attended the Smiths Grove Methodist Church and retired from the U S Navy.

His survivors include his wife, Marion Harper. Two brothers, Mike Harper and Norman Harper; three sisters, Elizabeth Swanner, Joyce Smith and Lind Gail Harper; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 12 noon Thursday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Grove Chapel with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4-6pm  Wednesday and 11am -12 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Donald Wilson Cowles, age 78, of Chalybeate, departed this life Thursday, April 21, 2022 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Edmonson county native was born July 15, 1943, to the late Larmie and Norma Wilson Cowles.  He was married to his helpmate and best friend of fifty seven years, Barbara Kaye Cowles.

Donald was a barber by trade for over forty years, and was fortunate enough to work  along side his brother, Ronald.  Together, they owned Cowles Barber Shop, where lots of friends and memories were made.  He was also a member of the Kentucky Colonels. Donald was a faithful member of Chalybeate United Baptist Church.

Besides his wife he leaves to honor his memory-- his children Cynthia McDougle (Anthony),  Tammy Thien, and Brian Cowles (Kim) all of Chalybeate, four grandchildren, Heather White (Kyle), Drew McDougle (Mandee), Taylor Carroll (Chad) and Evan Cowles; seven great-grandchildren, Dalton Carroll, Thomas Carroll, Knox White, Allie Decker, Lexi Decker, Honor White and Abel Carroll;  three brothers, Kenneth Cowles (Linda), Ronald Cowles (Opal) and Terry Cowles (Darlene). Beside his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Billy Ray and Jimmy Cowles, and two sisters, Opal Grimes and Barbara Hines.

Sharon Kay Kinslow, age 69 of Cave City, departed this life on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at her residence.  The Barren County native was born on June 24, 1952 to the late Veachel and Daisy Gossett Craine.  She was married to her best friend, Richard Kinslow, who survives. 

Sharon retired from Mallory Corporation, and worked as a homemaker, taking care of her family.  She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. 

Besides her husband, she leaves to honor her memory— two sisters, Juanita DeWeese (Kenneth) of Corydon, IN and Sheila Hatcher (Melvin) of Cave City; special niece, Peggy Abernathy (John) of Cave City and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rondal and Paul Craine. 

Interment will be in Cave City Cemetery.

Jerry Gale Jones, age 74, of Glasgow, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 in Glasgow. The Barren County native was born on May 2, 1947 to the late Roy Christopher and Bessie Mae Lawrence Jones.

Jerry was a former truck driver for Scotty’s and Dollar General, and was a farmer.  He attended Coral Hill Baptist Church.
He leaves to honor his memory— his children, Jeff Jones (Janet) of Smiths Grove; Annette Burton (Richard) of Smiths Grove and Sherry Scoggins (Shann) of Park City; siblings, Mike Jones (Ruth) of Smiths Grove; Peggy Beckham of Smiths Grove and Linda Rippy (Sammy) of Alvaton; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; former wives and special friends, Bernice Maness and Ruby Pedigo.  Beside his parents, he was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Eddie Beckham.

Sam Cassidy, 78, of Brownsville passed away at 6:38 AM April 20, 2022 at his home with loved ones by his side.
 
The Edmonson County native was a lawn care specialist and a member of Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Patrick Cassady and Marie Poteet Cassady.
 
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will take place 2-7 PM Friday and after 10:00 AM Saturday.

Norma Jean Wallace, age 78, of Park City, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022 in Cave City. The Barren County native was born on September 8, 1943 to the late Montier Irwin and Elzada Kerr Meredith. She was married for sixty-one years to the late Ernest Junior Wallace.

Norma Jean was a former assembly line worker for R.C.A.

Gerry “Gee Gee” Romine age 46 of Brownsville, departed this life on Friday, April 16, 2022.  The Edmonson County native was born on June 6, 1975 to the late Jerry Wayne Richards and Ruby Jane Hogan Richards, who survives.  She was married to Jim Romine, who survives.

Gee Gee was a 1993 graduate of Edmonson County High School and was employed at Minit Mart.  She enjoyed doing crafts, science fiction, and spending time with her family. Gee Gee was a member Mt. Zion United Baptist Church.

Besides her husband and mother she leaves to honor her memory— her step-children, Jimmy D. Romine and Amy Sanchez; four sisters, Missy Bass (Rob), Monica Richards (Bobby Johnson), Kaela Richards and Kristie Richards; a brother, Glenn Kennedy; four step-grandchildren, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, James Joseph and Mima Ora Hogan and Autrey Larry and Donna Mayrine Richards.

Paul Lindsey, age 86, of Brownsville, departed this life on Thursday, April 14, 2022 in Edmonson County. The Bee Spring native was born on July 9, 1935 to the late Berthel and Eaethel Vincent Lindsey.

Paul was a certified welder by trade, having worked for twenty years at American Synthetic before retiring in 1996. His favorite activities were fishing and hunting. He was a member of Oak Grove United Baptist Church. 

He leaves to honor his memory— his wife of sixty-six years, Eula Lindsey of Brownsville; son, Jerry Lindsey (Christine) of Louisville; sister-in-law, Rhoda Lindsey and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by siblings, Stoy, Terry, Estel, Barbara, and Edna Mae.

The Lindsey family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the friends and neighbors who helped care for Paul, including those involved in searching for him on April 14th.

Wilbur R. Duvall, 87, of Jock passed away at 1:55 PM April 13, 2022 at Springview Health Care in Leitchfield.
 
The Edmonson County native was a carpenter. He was a son of the late Robert Duvall and Alma Decker Duvall and the husband of the late Mary Vincent Duvall. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Devon Meredith; two brothers, Leonard Duvall and Athel Duvall; and three sisters, Nova Carroll, Zeta Poteet and Nona Vincent.
 
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday at Jock United Baptist Church, where he was a member, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place 3-8 PM Friday at Gravil Funeral Home and after 10:00 AM Saturday at the church.
 
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Meredith (Tim) of Anneta; a son-in-law, Danny Meredith; three grandchildren, Jeremy Meredith (Erica), Derrick Meredith (Samantha) and Tina Haner; ten great grandchildren, Marisa Bishop, Thad Haner, Mackenna Haner, Albany Haner, Rosabelle Haner, Jackson Meredith, Carter Meredith, Chandler Meredith, Braden Meredith and Brie Meredith; and a great great grandchild, Aiden Bishop.

Wayne Johnson, age 72, of Cave City, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow. The Barren County native was born on May 28, 1949 to the late Elmo Johnson and Lucille Long Johnson of Cave City.

Wayne was a former welder at FMC and most recently worked with Dennis Gossett mowing right of ways. He was a member of Servant Valley United Baptist Church.

Besides his mother, he leaves to honor his memory— daughter, Kim George (Keith) of Mt. Washington; son, Keith Johnson of Lebanon, TN; grandchildren, Lacey Boggs, Brittany Boggs and Lynsy Walker; eleven great-grandchildren; companion, Betty Burch of Cave City; brother, Mark Johnson (Theresa) of Pell City, AL; sister, Judy Poynter (Dennis) of Cave City and nephew, Shawn Poynter (Dale).
