Opal Cowles, age 77 of Chalybeate, departed this life with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West in Nashville, TN. The Edmonson County native was born on July 19, 1945 to the late William Edward and Lula Isabelle Lindsey Kinser. She was married to her best friend and help mate of fifty-nine years, Ronald Cowles, who survives.
Opal retired from Fruit of the Loom after twenty-five years of dedicated service. During that time, she worked as an office manager for the various departments including the legal and engineering divisions. She was a member of Boiling Springs Church of Christ. Opal had a quiet demeanor, but she was very devoted in her faith, to her friends and family. Besides her husband, Ronald, she leaves to honor her memory— her daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Eric Smith of Chalybeate; her grandson, Trevor Smith of Chalybeate, along with several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Phillip Kinser, Carnell Meredith and Dorothy Keith. Interment will be in Kinser Cemetery. Bryan attended The P.L.A.C.E. Worship Center and enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. Besides his parents, he leaves to honor his memory— daughter, Kasey L. The Edmonson County native was a self-employed hairdresser and barber. He was a son of the late James F. Madison and Charlsie Vincent Madison. No public services are scheduled. Gary Lee Marr, age 60, of Smiths Grove passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Hospice House in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was born on May 15, 1962 in Des Moines, Iowa to Joan Hughes Marr and Gary Lee Marr Sr.
Those who knew Gary loved him for his radiant positivity, resilience, and servant’s heart. As an organ transplant recipient, Gary understood gratitude's value and faith's power. His laughter, strength, and friendly ear will be remembered by many. Born August 28, 1936 in Indianapolis, IN, Judie was a seamstress at Brownsville Manufacturing. She began making her own clothes at age 14 with patterns she designed. Throughout her life, she kept a love for sewing, crocheting, gardening and most of all taking care of her family. She was a daughter of the late Adrian and Hazel Chambers and the wife of the late Duval Hardin. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Chambers and Regina Beck; and a brother, Adrian Chambers. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM CDT Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cub Creek Cemetery. Visitation will take place 2-7 PM Friday and after 10:00 AM Saturday. Troy Gravil, 79, of Lakeland, FL passed away there April 5, 2023.
The Edmonson County native was a Christian, a retired employee of Ford Motor Co. Louisville Assembly Plant; he enjoyed singing karaoke and was an avid horseman, hunter and fisherman. He was a son of the late Lum Gravil and Mae Whobrey Gravil. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Oleta Seaton Woodward, Olene Miles and Beatrice Morris and three brothers, Bert Gravil, Trenton Gravil and Herbert Gravil. The Edmonson County native was a homemaker, a former Glasgow Carhart employee, attended Edmonson County High School and graduated from Caverna High School in 1981 and was a member of Fairview United Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Willard Sanders and Verna Crain Sanders. She was preceded in death by a half brother, Norman Sanders. Harry was a veteran of the German Army, and a co-owner of Blue Holler Café. He never met a stranger, and loved visiting with his customers and friends at the restaurant. He was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed traveling, horseback riding and fishing. Besides his wife, Claudia, he leaves to honor his memory— his brothers, Kurt Ramthun (Karola) and Ulli Ramthun all of Germany, and his sister, Erika Quinn, of Rineyville, KY. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Rudi Ramthun. Lucy was a former seamstress at Mammoth Cave Garment Company. She was a member of Little Hope Missionary Baptist Church and Cave City Eastern Star. She leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Patricia Huff (Mark); grandchildren, Kacie Simon (Danny) and Anthony Huff (Lindsay); great-grandchildren, Jackson Huff, Ellie Jo Huff and Piper Houchens all of Park City.
