Opal Cowles, age 77

Opal Cowles, age 77 of Chalybeate, departed this life with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West in Nashville, TN.  The Edmonson County native was born on July 19, 1945 to the late William Edward and Lula Isabelle Lindsey Kinser.  She was married to her best friend and help mate of fifty-nine years, Ronald Cowles, who survives.

Opal retired from Fruit of the Loom after twenty-five years of dedicated service.  During that time, she worked as an office manager for the various departments including the legal and engineering divisions.  She was a member of Boiling Springs Church of Christ.  Opal had a quiet demeanor, but she was very devoted in her faith, to her friends and family.

Besides her husband, Ronald, she leaves to honor her memory— her daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Eric Smith of Chalybeate; her grandson, Trevor Smith of Chalybeate, along with several nieces and nephews.  She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Phillip Kinser, Carnell Meredith and Dorothy Keith.

Interment will be in Kinser Cemetery.

Bryan Joseph Keith, Age 33

Bryan Joseph Keith, age 33 of Cave City, passed away on April 20, 2023, at his residence. He was born on January 21, 1990, in Bowling Green to Pam Smith Barton of Chalybeate and Thomas Joseph Keith, Jr. of Bowling Green. 

Bryan attended The P.L.A.C.E. Worship Center and enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.

Besides his parents, he leaves to honor his memory— daughter, Kasey L. Keith of Smiths Grove; sister, Jamie L. Keith of Smiths Grove and several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Dorothy Keith and Kenneth and Rachel Smith.

Michael M. Madison, 75, of Sweeden passed away April 14, 2023 at Hospice House in Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a self-employed hairdresser and barber. He was a son of the late James F. Madison and Charlsie Vincent Madison.
 
No public services are scheduled. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
 
Surviving are a sister, Jennifer Oakes of Sweeden; a brother, David Madison (Sheila) of Sweeden; and several nieces and nephews.

Gary Lee Marr, age 60

Gary Lee Marr, age 60, of Smiths Grove passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Hospice House in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was born on May 15, 1962 in Des Moines, Iowa to Joan Hughes Marr and Gary Lee Marr Sr.

Those who knew Gary loved him for his radiant positivity, resilience, and servant’s heart. As an organ transplant recipient, Gary understood gratitude's value and faith's power. His laughter, strength, and friendly ear will be remembered by many. 

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Allstrom Marr of Smiths Grove; two sons, Kyle Marr (Lauren) of Bowling Green and Eric Marr (Lakin) of Lexington; sister, Angie Determan (Tom Pruett) of Camanche, Iowa; grandson, Jackson Marr, and his aunt Judy Schaley (Kevin Hesse) of Clinton, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Agnes Marie Hughes; his grandfather, Gurden Hughes; and his aunt, Jackie Perry.

Judie Lee Chambers Hardin, 86

Judie Lee Chambers Hardin, 86, of Roundhill departed this life April 11, 2023 at Edmonson Center.

Born August 28, 1936 in Indianapolis, IN, Judie was a seamstress at Brownsville Manufacturing. She began making her own clothes at age 14 with patterns she designed. Throughout her life, she kept a love for sewing, crocheting, gardening and most of all taking care of her family. She was a daughter of the late Adrian and Hazel Chambers and the wife of the late Duval Hardin. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Chambers and Regina Beck; and a brother, Adrian Chambers.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM CDT Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cub Creek Cemetery. Visitation will take place 2-7 PM Friday and after 10:00 AM Saturday.
 
She leaves to honor her memory, her daughters Debbie Christ (Terry) and Sharon Green (Brian), granddaughter Beverly Campbell (Kenyatta), grandson Jeremy DePrez (Corinne), great granddaughter Kayla Green, grandsons Brian Green (Felicia) and Kevin Green (Harmony), 2 great granddaughters and one great grandson, sister-in-law Daphene Phelps and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Sue Chambers and Regina Beck, her brother Adrian Chambers.

Troy Gravil, Age 79

Troy Gravil, 79, of Lakeland, FL passed away there April 5, 2023.

The Edmonson County native was a Christian, a retired employee of Ford Motor Co. Louisville Assembly Plant; he enjoyed singing karaoke and was an avid horseman, hunter and fisherman. He was a son of the late Lum Gravil and Mae Whobrey Gravil. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Oleta Seaton Woodward, Olene Miles and Beatrice Morris and three brothers, Bert Gravil, Trenton Gravil and Herbert Gravil.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday at Lanier Funeral and Cremation Services in Lakeland with burial to follow in Oak Hill Burial Park. Visitation will take place 12-1:30 PM.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Aaron; two sons, Troy A. Gravil (Barbie) and Scott Gravil (Laura); two daughters, Robyn Cassity (Mike) and Brenda Bryant (Ray); a sister, Jeanettta Alford (Jim); two brothers, Ron Gravil (Shelia) and Chris Gravil (Melody); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Regina Ann “Ginabell” Wood, Age 59

Regina Ann “Ginabell” Wood, 59, of Brownsville passed away at 6:29 AM April 7, 2023 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a homemaker, a former Glasgow Carhart employee, attended Edmonson County High School and graduated from Caverna High School in 1981 and was a member of Fairview United Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Willard Sanders and Verna Crain Sanders. She was preceded in death by a half brother, Norman Sanders.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Center Point Cemetery in Hart County. Visitation will take place 11:00 AM-7:00 PM Monday and after 10:00 AM Tuesday.
 
Surviving are her husband, Ronnie Wood; three sons, Kyle Culbreth (Nikki) and Corey Culbreth (Paige) both of Sweeden and Brandon Wood (Chelsea) of Columbia; five sisters, Zelma Wilson of Brownsville, Sandy Ashley and Carla Decker (Richard) both of Chalybeate, Paula Meredith (Paul) of Rocky Hill and Wanda Kay Ray (James) of Segal; five grandchildren, Grayson Wood, Addison Wood, Livi Culbreth, Ellie Culbreth and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

Shelia Pauline Sanders, 69

Shelia Pauline Sanders, 69, of Brownsville passed away at 8:14 PM April 2, 2023, at the Medical Center at Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a housekeeper at TJ Samson Hospital and at Mammoth Cave Hotel and a member of Pine Grove United Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Clarence Addis Poteet and Ethel Spinks Poteet Wilson. She was preceded in death by two sisters Jane Johnson and Sherian Montgomery; a brother Gene Poteet; and a niece Angela Montgomery.
 
Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow at Light Cemetery. Visitation will take place 11am-7pm Wednesday and after 10:00 am Thursday.
 
Surviving are her husband Paul Cecil Sanders; a daughter Windy Sanders Coogle (Jeremy); a granddaughter Hannah Jade Coogle; four nieces Serena Montgomery, Pam Heidelberger, Paula Wood, and Leanna Foley; and several great nieces and great nephews.

Cody Dylan Brady, Age 27

Cody Dylan Brady, age 27, of Rocky Hill, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 in Rocky Hill. The Elkville, IL native was born on April 1, 1995 to Johnnie Brady of Carterville, IL and Mandy Alexander (Brian) of Rocky Hill. He was married to Gabrielle Brady of Caneyville.

Cody was a self-employed contractor and a member of the Baptist faith.
Besides his wife and parents, he leaves to honor his memory— sons, Ace Dylan Brady and Blayze Lee Brady; siblings, L. J. Brady (Shannon), Ashley Bertram, Brett Brady, Maddie Alexander, Harleigh Brady, Brileigh Alexander; grandparents, Pauletta Henson, Skip and Beverly Brady and uncle, Bryan Brooks.
Interment will be in Rocky Hill Cemetery.

Harry Waldemar Ramthun, age 71

Harry Waldemar Ramthun, age 71 of Mammoth Cave, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at his residence.  The Irmelshausen, Germany native was born on April 15, 1951 to the late Fritz and Hilde Muller Ramthun.  He was married to his best friend, Claudia S. Ramthun, who survives.

Harry was a veteran of the German Army, and a co-owner of Blue Holler Café.  He never met a stranger, and loved visiting with his customers and friends at the restaurant.  He was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed traveling, horseback riding and fishing. 

Besides his wife, Claudia, he leaves to honor his memory— his brothers, Kurt Ramthun (Karola) and Ulli Ramthun all of Germany, and his sister, Erika Quinn, of Rineyville, KY.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Rudi Ramthun.

Lucy Cox Logsdon, age 91, of Park City, departed this life on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow. The Edmonson County native was born on March 20, 1932 to the late Edward G. and Ellie Kerr Cox. She was married to the late Louie Logsdon.

Lucy was a former seamstress at Mammoth Cave Garment Company. She was a member of Little Hope Missionary Baptist Church and Cave City Eastern Star.

She leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Patricia Huff (Mark); grandchildren, Kacie Simon (Danny) and Anthony Huff (Lindsay); great-grandchildren, Jackson Huff, Ellie Jo Huff and Piper Houchens all of Park City. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Everette Cox and Charles Gipson and sisters, Ethel Meredith, Ruby Ramsey, Ora Denton, Mary Jones, Edith Logsdon and Hazel Hunt.
