Carolyn Ann Miller, 78

Carolyn Ann Miller of Jacksonville, FL went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 22, 2024 surrounded by her family. Carolyn was born Nov. 22, 1946 in Louisville, KY. She was a daughter of the late Marvin E. Miller and Mary Evelyn Meredith Miller. She spent her early years in Kentucky, and in 1984 relocated to Jacksonville to start her federal career at NAS Jacksonville. She finished her Associate in Applied Science Degree in Information Systems Technology Specializing in Networking. She later retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers in Ft. Myer, VA,
 
Carolyn became a Christian at an early age, and held the Lord in her heart for her whole life. She was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), the Mandarin Magnolia Garden Club and the Order of the Eastern Star of Kentucky Chapter 279 Rocky Hill, KY. She had a great love for animals- especially dogs, and she rescued and fostered several during her lifetime.
 
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday May 3, 2025 at Heritage Centre, 503 Washington Street in Brownsville with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
 
Surviving are her children, Linda Williams (Larry), Denise Tarrance and Mark Tarrance (Melissa); grandchildren, Jennifer Goodwin, Laurean Oltmanns (Justin), Brad Williams, Eric Terracciano (Jannah) and Hannah Tarrance; great grandchildren, Wyatt Oltmanns, Rowan Oltmanns, Giovanni Terracciano and Julianna Terracciano; three sisters, Maurita Miller, Marla Miller-Shade (Greg) and Elaine Miller; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful furry companion, Dilly.

Jewell Marie Logan, 64, of Bowling Green passed away April 29, 2025 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a 1979 graduate of Edmonson County High School, received an associates degree from Western Kentucky University, a QA operator for Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems and a member of Fairview United Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Clell Logan and Leola Aleze Jaggers Logan. She was preceded in death by a son, Craig Logan and a brother, David Logan.
 
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.
 
Surviving are her husband, David Melton; two sons, Craig Cherry and Michael Melton both of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Katilyn Melton and Madison Melton; a sister-in-law, Tammy Johnson (Phillip) of Cave City; a niece, Mandy Gooden of Indianapolis; and a nephew, Travis Logan of Greenwood, IN.


Richard "Dick" Clemons Jr., 90

Retired Sergeant Major Richard Clemons Jr., affectionately known as Dick, passed away on April 22, 2025, at his residence. Born on December 9, 1934, Dick lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and service. He was a highly decorated member of the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant Major and becoming not only a commendable soldier but also a respected figure in his community.

Dick's contributions extended far beyond his military service; he was deeply involved in various community activities and initiatives, reflecting his commitment to making a positive impact. His legacy serves as a testament to a life well-lived, inspiring many who had the privilege to know him.

He is survived by his son, Richard Francis Clemons III, and his cherished grandchildren, Jessica Merfled, Trenton Williams, and Chris Williams. They will carry forward his rich legacy, filled with love and memories.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Francis Clemons Sr., mother, Olive Bartell, wife, Maggie Clemons, and daughter, Tina Hall. The loss of these family members profoundly shaped his life, instilling in him the values of love, perseverance, and dedication to family that he so elegantly embodied.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on May 14, 2025, at Oakland Baptist Church, located at 410 Church St, Oakland, KY 42159. Friends and family are invited to gather from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM to remember and celebrate the extraordinary life of Richard Clemons Jr.

In his passing, we remember a man who dedicated his life to his country and community, leaving behind an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.



David Long, Jr., age 49

David Long, Jr., age 49 of Brownsville, departed this life on Thursday, April 23, 2025 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY. The Baltimore, Maryland native was born on August 13, 1975 to the late David Lawrence Long, Sr. and Helen Gale Devine, who survives. He was married to his loving wife of thirty years, Lisa Butler Long.

David practiced his Christian faith and was a skilled mechanic at Torque by Ryder. He had a passion for hunting down hidden treasures at local auctions, where he relished the thrill of finding great deals. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his side-by-side and motorcycle, along with the thrill of watching race cars, moments that allowed him to escape from the daily grind and connect with his passions. His pursuits reflected a deep desire for adventure and happiness.

Besides his wife and mother, Lisa and Helen, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Mariah Tichacek (Tyler) of Caneyville and Nathaniel Long (Samantha) of Smiths Grove; grandchildren, Russell Tichacek, Paisley Long, Amelia Tichacek and Madelyn Long, and his sister, Julie Suprata (Mike). He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Rafferty.

A Celebration of Life service is planned at his son’s residence, 147 Stinnett Road, Smiths Grove, KY on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 3 PM.

Tracy Lee Vincent, 84, of Martinsville, VA passed away April 20, 2025 at Mulberry Creek Nursing and Rehab Center in Martinsville.
 
The Edmonson County native was a retired mechanic for Brownsville Manufacturing and Edmonson County Schools, a member of Washington Meredith Lodge #355 F & AM and a member of Midway United Missionary Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Warren Sherman Vincent and Gladys Hogan Vincent and the husband of the late Mary Lou “Bobby” Byrnes Vincent. He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Vincent and a sister, Treavlin Vincent.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Midway Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Sunday.
 
Surviving are a daughter, Kimberly Vincent of Martinsville; a son, Jeffrey Vincent (Casie) of Martinsville; a brother, James “Jimmy” Vincent (Phyllis) of Scottsville; two grandsons, Kristopher “Brett” Vincent and Miles “Brady” Vincent; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Rollie Byron Reynolds, age 91

Rollie Byron Reynolds, age 91 of Cedar Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on August 9, 1933 to the late William Westerfield and Eva Gibson Reynolds. He was married to his devoted wife and help mate of seventy-three years, Ruby Cook Reynolds, who survives.

After working for years as a truck driver, Rollie retired and found so much joy in farming, fishing, and hunting. He was also a dedicated, faithful member of Cedar Springs United Baptist Church, where he proudly served as a trustee. Rollie was a kind man, cherished neighbor, and friend to all. He valued his family, and was the happiest when they were gathered together making memories full of love, laughter and true happiness.

Besides his loving wife, Ruby, he leaves to honor his memory— his sons, Bro. David Reynolds (Nola) and Anthony Reynolds (Shirley), all of Cedar Springs; grandchildren, Kelly Simon, Matt Reynolds (Sandra), Jamie Rich (Nick), Amanda Reynolds and Rena Chaffins (Brandon); great-grandchildren, Jordan Cassady (Drew), Jackson Simon, Caleb Vincent, Byron Reynolds, Savannah Guarino (Nick), Sarah Vincent, Jaedlyn Simon, Griffin Reynolds and Raelynn Key and great-great grandchildren, Saylor, Sophia and Simon Cassady and Coraline Vincent. Rebecca Susan (Becky) Higgs York, 73, of Bowling Green passed away April 14, 2025 at Cardinal Landing Memory Care in Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a 1970 graduate of Edmonson County High School, was a secretary for former WKU Sports Information Director Paul Just, a sales associate for Dillards, a homemaker and caregiver, a member of Asphalt Church of Christ and attended Shadyland Church of Christ. She was a daughter of the late Emil York Higgs and Maxine Pile Higgs and the wife of the late William Jackson York. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Alan York Higgs; grandparents, Francis & Lillie Pile and Jesse & Sonora Higgs; an aunt, Wanda Lee Seabolt; and a cousin, Greg Hummel.
 
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Shadyland Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday.

Mary Lou Cook, age 85

Mary Lou Cook, age 85, of Louisville, formerly of Park City, KY, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Norton’s Brownsboro hospital after a short illness. Mary Lou was born July 29, 1939, in Pikeville, KY, to Lula Bentley and Chester Hutchinson, both now deceased. She married Martin Cook on May 24, 1958, and they were married for almost 29 years in 1987. 

Mary Lou was converted on June 18, 1967, at Hemphill Freewill Baptist Church where she became a faithful member until moving to Park City in 1972 upon Martin’s retirement. There she joined Walnut Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended as long as her health allowed. She served as song leader for many years and was a fine example of a Christian woman. 

She was an outstanding wife, mother, and homemaker, doing everything in her power to make sure all their family were well taken care of. She was an excellent cook, and with Martin’s help, she raised a garden and canned vegetables as long as she was able. Mary Lou worked as a secretary and head start teacher at Hemphill Elementary while her children attended. Later in life, she worked retail at Dress Ups at the Horse Cave Outlet Mall, then managed The Inn, a popular restaurant in Glasgow, putting her cooking and organizational skills to good use. 

She is survived by her children, Drema Wilson (Rick) and Marty Cook (Elizabeth) both of Louisville; grandsons, Robert Evan Bates and Michael Martin Cook; son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Bates along with numerous precious nieces, nephews, and extended family to mourn her passing. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Melody Cook Bates, and her siblings, June, Lois, Dorothy, Janice, Phyllis, and Dean Bentley. Mary Lou will be laid to rest at Walnut Hill Cemetery next to her beloved husband. In one of the many clippings she collected and stored in her Bible was found this special one, “Death leaves a heartache no one heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

John Kerry Culbreth, age 69

John Kerry Culbreth, age 69, of Louisville, KY, departed this life on April 8, 2025, at his residence. A native of Edmonson County, he was born on April 5, 1956, to Shirley Wells Culbreth, who survives, and the late John Thomas Culbreth of Sweeden, KY.

Kerry was saved as a young boy on August 6, 1967, at Bee Springs Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized the same day at Rhoda Creek.

He leaves to honor his memory his beloved wife of 35 years, Julia, and his children: Gibson Lee, Haley Collins, and Teresa Kate.

A lifelong and accomplished musician, Kerry found his greatest joy in music. He also had a passion for cooking—especially grilling amazing barbecue—and loved dining at good restaurants. Some of his most cherished memories were traveling with his family, fishing in the country, visiting with loved ones, and catching up with friends. He loved his little dogs, Leo and Darla and he spent many happy hours holding them in his favorite recliner. He was the proud owner of Warm Hearth Chimney Sweeps and took great pride in providing excellent service to his customers.

In addition to his wife, children, and mother, Kerry is survived by his siblings: Craig Culbreth (Laura), Teresa Houchin, and Melissa Fulkerson (Bobby). He is also lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his niece, Erin Turner York, and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Houchin.

In accordance with his wishes, Kerry was cremated. A celebration of life gathering will be held on June 15, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Culbreth Farm, 422 Kyrock Road, Sweeden, KY 42285. All are welcome to bring photographs and share memories on this special day.

Linda Wilson, age 67

Linda Wilson, age 67 of Bee Spring, departed this life on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Edmonson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Edmonson County native was born on January 18, 1958 to the late William and Mary Goins Wilson.

Linda was a member of Jock United Baptist Church, and the Bee Spring Homemakers. With a free spirit, she embraced the simple joys that surrounded her. Whether she was lost in the enchanting melodies of The Beatles or savoring a Coca-Cola, Linda found happiness in the little things, without any worries or cares.

She leaves to honor her memory— her uncle, Joe Goins, and sister-in-law, Venettia Wilson, both of Bee Spring, along with several cousins and extended family members. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, William “Dink” Wilson.

James Leo Carrier, age 83

James Leo Carrier, age 83 of Pine Grove, often testified, “God put a love in my heart that will take me home.” He found that perfect love and peace on Friday, April 11, 2025 when God called him to his eternal home. The Warren County native was born on January 23, 1942 to the late Arthur and Maggie Watt Carrier. He was married to his beloved and devoted wife of sixty-three years, Joyce Simmons Carrier, who survives.

A man of strong faith, Leo found his spiritual home at Boiling Springs Baptist Church, where he was saved. He later joined Pine Grove United Baptist Church, where he became a deacon and devoted member for over 64 years. Leo's faithfulness to his church extended beyond attendance; he served as the church clerk for over 27 years, dedicating countless hours to the well-being of his church. Additionally, Leo dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career. He worked at Dibrell Tobacco Company, until its closure. He then later retired after many years as a maintenance supervisor from Auburn Hosiery Mill. His work ethic and commitment to his roles were commendable, reflecting the values he held so dear.

Outside of his professional and spiritual life, Leo had a profound love for spending time on his farm, engaging in the simple pleasures of fishing, and soaking in the beauty of nature. His passion for southern gospel music was evident, as he shared his love for singing with his family in the Carrier Quartet, creating lasting memories through music that brought joy to many. Most importantly, he loved and valued his family above all.

Besides his wife, Joyce, he leaves to honor his memory— his son, Marty Carrier of Boiling Springs; a sister, Brenda Sue Richards; sister-in-law, Vontella Carrier, along with several nieces and nephews that he loved as his own. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Bobby Joe Carrier, William Cleo Carrier, Betty Jean Carrier and Charlene Stice Carrier.

The Edmonson County native was a homemaker, a former employee of Bluegrass Ice Cream Factory, which she also is credited for naming and a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Dale Raymer and Ida Whobrey Raymer Morton and the wife of the late Wavie M. Roof. She was preceded in death by 12 siblings.
 
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Friday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Dit Vincent Cemetery. Visitation will take place 3:00-7:00 PM Thursday and after 10:00 AM Friday.

Peggy Lou Shive Walden, age 81

Peggy Lou Shive Walden, age 81 of Hiseville, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at NHC HealthCare in Glasgow, KY. The Barren County native was born on February 14, 1944, to the late Otha and Ruby Sparks Shive. She was married to her beloved husband, Larry Glenn Edwards, until they were parted by his passing on September 5, 1973.

Peggy leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, hard work, and a deep commitment to her family, community and church. As a cherished member of Center United Methodist Church, she demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience throughout her life and its challenges, holding steadfast to her faith and always maintaining an unwavering relationship with the Lord.

Growing up in a dairy farming family, one of Peggy's greatest joys was witnessing her granddaughter continue this respected tradition within the Hiseville community. With a dedicated career spanning twenty-five years as an assembly line worker, Peggy later spent five years providing compassionate care for the elderly at Home Instead Senior Care, inspiring all who knew her. Additionally, Peggy took great pride in the family home she built alongside her late husband. She found joy in gardening and nurturing her beautiful flowers, and her love for her cats, Butterscotch and Love, brought her comfort and companionship. As a University of Kentucky basketball enthusiast, she delighted in cheering for the Wildcats, and was especially proud when her daughter became an alumna who positively influenced the children in their community as a high school teacher at Barren County High School.

She leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Marilyn L. Edwards-Barrick (Mark); a brother, Jimmy Shive (Rita); granddaughter, Megan Bailey-Komar (Josh); step grandson, Blake Barrick (Hattie); great-grandchildren, Bailey and Tate Komar; sisters-in-law, Joy Shive and Barbara Evans, along with twenty nieces and nephews and forty-one great nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by, her siblings, J.O. Shive and Evelyn Anderson, and granddaughter, Molly Anne Bailey.

Wilma Sanders, age 95, of Cedar Springs, departed this life on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at her residence. The Edmonson County native was born on December 8, 1929, to the late Hobart and Flora Reynolds Houchin. She was married to her devoted husband, Deward Sanders, until they were parted by his passing on July 27, 2007.

Wilma, who enjoyed a fulfilling career at Philip Morris Tobacco, embraced retirement with grace and joy. She was a member of New Liberty Methodist Church, where she found a sense of community and purpose. In her free time, she indulged her creative passions, delighting in the intricate art of quilting, the whimsical craft of basket weaving, and the sweet satisfaction of cake decorating. Each activity reflected her warmth and creativity, leaving a lasting impression on those around her.

She leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Peggy Meador (Jim) of Louisville; granddaughters, Hollie Canterbury and Nicole Wardle (Jesse); great grandchildren, Tevin McAtee, Isaiah McAtee (Brooklyn), Ava Canterbury and Ivy Wardle, and great great-grandchildren, Maleah, Jaden and Reya McAtee. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, George “Tubby” Houchin, Idell Howard Houchin and Mildred Rutherford.

Jimmy Dale “Jim” Holllis, 82

Jimmy Dale “Jim” Holllis, 82, of Segal passed away peacefully- supported and surrounded by his loving family- March 29, 2025 at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville.

Born November 29, 1942 in Alton, MO, Jim was the epitome of hard work, dedication and love. As a skilled toolmaker, he spent many years building and fabricating tools at the General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green. Prior to his time at the Corvette plant, he also worked in the Illinois cities of Herrin, O’Fallon and Potone, as well as St. Louis, MO and New Mexico. He took immense pride in his craft and has left a lasting impression in his trade. He was a member of UAW Local 2146 and Red Hill General Baptist Church. His dedication and drive was to build and provide a legacy for his family- including his farms. Beyond his work, Jim was a devoted husband to Janet, a loving father to Jimmy and Jay, and a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim found joy in cattle farming, fishing and hunting. He found a passion for creating hand-made items, like baskets and nets. He was always happiest when visiting with and surrounded by his family.

Jim was preceded in death by his in-laws, Dorothy and Robert Luckert; his parents, Eddie Nicholas Hollis and Doyle Hollis; a son, Jimmy Dale Hollis Jr.

Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday April 7, 2025 at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Red Hill Cemetery, which will be followed by an open house with family and friends to show their love and support at The Heritage Center at 503 Washington St. in Brownsville. Visitation will take place 2:00-7:00 PM Sunday and after 9:00 AM Monday.

His life and memory are honored by his his wife, Janet K. Hollis; a son, Jay Hollis (April); grandchildren, Whitney Hollis, Brent Hollis (Binh), Jasmaine Theobald (Eric), Emily Alferio (Tony), Jamison Hollis, Dinara Duncan (Tanner), Jonathan Hollis (Kailee), James Hollis (Madison) and Amelia Chan Hollis; great grandchildren, Skylar Hollis, Corbin Hollis, Mia Hollis, Olivia Hollis, Jacob Hollis, Abigail Hollis, Elijah Hollis, Audrey Theobald, Caleb Theobald, Conner Theobald, Aria Theobald, Tony “Little Tony” Alferio and Kennedy Hollis; siblings, Herb Hollis (Helen), Nick Hollis (Linda), John Hollis (Vicki) and Gail Matthews; an aunt, Mildred Sullivan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

James Eugene Woosley, 67, of Roundhill passed away April 2, 2025 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a retired drywaller and a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Lester Woosley and Gracie Jones Woosley. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mikey Woosley; four brothers, Lester “Avon” Woosley, Kenneth Woosley, Lewis Woosley and Kermit Woosley; and three sisters, Ethel Woosley, Gracie Leigh Woosley and Carol Woosley.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in New Home Cemetery. Visitation will take place 4-7 PM Monday, 10:00 AM-7:00 PM Tuesday and after 9:00 AM Wednesday.
 
Surviving are his wife, Sandy Hardin Woosley; three daughters, Jennifer Elmore (Jason Durbin) of Bee Spring, Shannon Ravencraft (Quentin) of Roundhill and Mary Woosley (Aaron Plouvier) of Hodgenville; a son-in-law, Ronald Elmore of Roundhill; a brother, David Woosley (Betty) of Roundhill; 15 grandchildren, Ryan Elmore (Graysea), Gregory Ravencraft, Harley Ravencraft, Ethyn Ravencraft, Angel Elmore, Gracie Meredith, Benson Ravencraft, Billy Meredith, Lily Meredith, Lyndsey Plouvier, Caleb Plouvier, Elizabeth Plouvier, Tyler Hayes, Dustin Hayes (Alex) and Arey Durbin (Maggie); a great grandson, Haskell Elmore; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul E. Barger, age 79 of Cub Run, departed this life on Monday, March 31, 2025, at the University of Louisville Hospital. The Meade County native was born on February 11, 1946, to the late Chester and Mabel Cart Barger.

Paul served our country in the U.S. Air Force. He operated as an Amish taxi driver, a role that allowed him to connect with his community and share stories during rides. He had a passion for woodworking, skillfully producing beautiful pieces that reflected his creativity and craftsmanship. Most cherished of all were the moments he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories with their Grandad. 

He leaves to honor his memory— his daughters, Deidre Day (Terry) of Munfordville, Leanne Farmer of Elizabethtown, and Paulette Oakes of Somerset; grandchildren, Victoria Cummings, Kelsey Highbaugh (Daniel), Logan Day (Becca), Grace Farmer, Lydia Farmer, Stevie Redmon, Beth Farmer, Eli Farmer, Cameron Day, Aly Day and Clara Oakes; great-grandchildren, Presley Highbaugh, Piper Day, Everlyn Highbaugh and Jolee Day; sisters, Elaine Wilson and Bonnie Prochaska, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Ann McKibben.
