Norman was the husband of the late Genevieve Rich Simon. The Edmonson County native was a son of the late James William and Ion Duvall Simon. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Nina Mayhugh, Madge Simon, Gertie Anderson; three brothers, Amon Simon, Harold Simon, Reynold Simon. He was founder and co-owner of Simon Masonry and a farmer. Norman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a WWII Marine veteran. Since his wife’s death thirty-three years ago, he continued to be the steady guide and beacon of their family values. Their children were blessed to have Norman and Genevieve Simon as their parents. His survivors are his four children: Randy Simon, Debby Cherry (David), Libby Simon (Brent Rowe), Terry Simon (Judy); three grandchildren, Simon Cherry, Jenna Cherry, Sonia Simon; one sister-in-law, Ila Simon; several nieces and nephews; his caregiver, Shirley Malone; friends, Mike Murphy, Joyce Webb, Sue Stringer and George Comfort. Beatrice East Garman, age 97, of Smiths Grove, KY went to live eternally with her heavenly Father on May 4, 2016.
Beatrice was born in Glasgow, KY on December 5th, 1918. She was one of 11 children born to the late Blanch and Charlie East. Bea worked as a Sales Clerk at Sears for several years before going to work at Tyson Bearing Factory where she worked as an assembly worker until her retirement, staying home to farm, quilt, garden, read and care for her grandchildren. She was the oldest member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Smiths Grove, KY. On September 2nd, 1939 Bea married the love of her life, Floyd Garman. They were married for 54 years when he passed away too soon in1994. Together, they had four children;Tom Garman (Paulette) of Norwalk, OH, James Garman (Marlys) of Wisconsin, Gwen Garrett (Jim) of Franklin, KY and Kathy Durbin (Chris) of Bowling Green. Their legacy also includes 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Beatrice is survived by her sisters: Hazel Davis, Charlene Smith, Lois Beckham, Patricia McCombs, Marie Woodard and Rose Hulsey and many nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by her two brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
