Romie Gene Clemmons, age 79 of Brownsville, departed this life on Monday, May 25, 2020 at his residence. The Edmonson County native was born on March 30, 1941 to the late Clyde and Lois Graham Clemmons. He was married to his devoted wife, Janis Musick Clemmons, who survives.
Romie served in the Kentucky Army National Guard during the Vietnam War era. He was a farmer and faithful supporter of the Future Farmers of America. He was a member of Pine Grove United Baptist Church, Edmonson County Cattleman’s Association, a master conservationist, and a trustee of Oak Hill Cemetery. Besides his wife, he leaves to honor is memory— two daughters, Vickie Wells and Rhonda Clemmons both of Brownsville; three grandchildren, Mason Wells, Zac Mello and Megan Wells; one brother, Larry Clemmons (Danzel); one brother-in-law, Frank Davis and several nieces and nephews. He was a farmer and over the years he worked at a saw mill and was a bus driver, and a poultry farmer for Perdue for 22 years. Ms. Bertha was one of the founding members of the Brownsville Homemakers, and would spend endless hours making shuck dolls, sewing, and painting. She was also a member of the Edmonson County Historical Society and Fairview United Baptist Church. Born March 16, 1918, the Butler County native was a retired farmer and construction worker for Throgmorton Construction in Louisville and was a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ. Before his illness, he enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler, tending horses and mules and reading his Bible. He was a son of the late Everett Booth and Vashti Elmore Booth and the husband of the late Lillian Edgar Booth. Upon retirement, she gathered extensive research on our family’s genealogy. This research took her all over the US and even Europe. She imparted a love of our heritage to her family. Surviving are two sons, Lancie Meredith (Vicki) of Elizabethtown and Gary Meredith (Rhonda) of Bee Spring; a daughter, Jill Vincent (Thomas) of Brownsville; a sister, Pat Pennington (Gary) of Shepherdsville; a brother, Edward Poteet (Jackie) of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Georgeanna Gibson (Chad), Andrea Kresslin (Matt) and Brett Meredith (Heather); seven great grandchildren, Abby Gibson, Lexi Gibson, Ella Gibson, Carter Kresslin, Tate Kresslin, Micah Kresslin and Jackson Bley; and several nieces and nephews. William C. French, Jr., age 72, was called to his heavenly home surrounded by his wife of 53 1/2 years, Sharon Patterson French, daughter, Angela French Lawler and son-in-law, Emmanuel Lawler along with a host of family and friends on May 4th, 2020 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
Bill, as he was known to most, was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. He proudly served his country from 1968-1969 in the Big Red One platoon. His love of his country was only surpassed by his love of family. He was a member of Nesbit Alexander DAV. Upon his return home from Vietnam, he held several jobs, which allowed him to attend WKU where he earned an associates degree. Eventually he found a career in sales that brought him lifelong success. This success can be attributed to his hard work ethic and natural abilities. He retired as a regional manager with Monumental Life Insurance Company, where he won many awards, trips and accolades. Bill had many hobbies, but the one that brought him the greatest joy was cooking. He fancied himself an amateur chef, whose meals for family and friends was legendary. He loved having his family and friends over to partake in his culinary dishes he so lovingly prepared. He had many names and several hats and whether he was called husband, daddy, papa or Bill -Bill, he found happiness in each one. His greatest pleasure in life was his family. He loved all of them unconditionally. Being an adored son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle was an astonishing gift bestowed on those who loved him and to those he loved. He now rejoins his loved ones in Glory including his parents, William C. French, Sr., Virginia Hope Brooks French and his beloved mother in law, Dee Patterson. Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory-- one daughter, Angela French Lawler (Emmanuel), two grandchildren, William Spencer Lawler (Sarah) and Deidre Kaye Lawler; two great-grandchildren whom he adored, William Braxton and Lillie Kaye Lawler all of Brownsville, KY; four sisters, Carolyn Hogan of Flager Beach, FL, Cherri Rippy (Chris) of Bowling Green, KY, Debbie Durbin and Donna French of Smiths Grove, KY, honorary brother, Roger Parsley (Jeannie) of Brownsville, KY. Bill was a true and devoted friend to many, but he had a lifelong devoted friendship with Roger. Their friendship was rare and unbreakable. Interment will be in Pleasant Union Church Cemetery, where he was a member. The Edmonson County native was a retired crane operator at NASCO and a member of Big Reedy Church of Christ. After retiring, Doug enjoyed golf, fishing and spending time at his cabin in Metcalfe County. He was a son of the late Jothrey "Jody" Booth and Dehlia Potter Booth. Services will be private. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Surviving are his wife, Angela Ann Jackson Booth; a son, Broc Allen Booth of Brownsville; a daughter, Lacy Ann Booth of Bowling Green; a step son, Brad Alan Vincent (Stacy) of Richmond; three brothers, Ronnie Booth (Sharon) of Campbellsville, Barry Booth (Lisa) of Brownsville and Todd Booth of Oakland; a step granddaughter, Chloe Marie Vincent; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty R. Self Payton, 75, of Columbia passed away at 1:26 PM Sunday May 3, 2020 at her home.
The Edmonson County native was a homemaker and member of Red Hill General Baptist Church and New Zion General Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Arthur Self and Nervy Phelps Self Alford. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Ruby Clubb, Helen Kinser and Geneva Fox, Mildred Higgs and Norma Jean Self and one brother, Eugene Self. Services will be private. Burial will take place in Red Hill Cemetery. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Surviving are her husband, Walter L. Payton; two daughters, Lisa Miller of Jamestown and Tammy Payton of Columbia; four grandchildren, Jessica Watts, Jennifer Watts, Ashley McGuffin and James McGuffin Jr.; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. |
