Martha Jean Farmer, 97, passed peacefully on June 23, 2021, at Hosparus Inpatient Care at Norton Pavilion in Louisville. She was born in Louisville to Evelyn Marie Woods and Charles Edward Hancock. She attended Midway High School and graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing in Louisville. In 1948 she married Sidney Eugene Farmer of Pittsburg, PA. They moved to Brownsville in the late 40’s and moved to Bowling Green in 1986.
Martha Jean was a charter member of the Brownsville Homemakers. She loved to work at the Edmonson County Fair. She loved to paint, sew, cook, and do crafts. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Bowling Green. Martha Jean was predeceased by Sidney and her son Jack Farmer (Amy). She is survived by children, Karen Frances Miller (Ralph), Debbie Bates (John) and Harry Farmer, grandchildren, Rachel Wilson (Bill), Shelly Boyer (Jason), Jennifer Gonzales (Albert), Ralph Miller (Carey), Mark Miller (Jenn), Jillian Lukose (Steve), Kelly Farmer and Brandy Wilson (Brandon). There are 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Her body was donated to the University of Louisville Medical School. On Saturday, July 31, 2021, there will be a gathering at noon, followed by a Memorial Mass at 1pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4754 Smallhouse Road, Bowling Green, Kentucky. Helen Louise Huffman, age 94 of Bee Spring, departed this life on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at her residence. The Simpson County native was born on September 2, 1926 to the late Henry and Ida Weidemann. She was married to Elmer Dale Huffman, who preceded her in death.
Ms. Huffman retired from Edmonson County Schools as an educator in 1988. He is also preceded in death by three children, Timmy, Kristie and Sue Ellen Jaggers and one grandchild, Timmy Jaggers. He was of the Baptist faith, a construction worker and a farmer. The Edmonson County native was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a son of the late Orville Miller and Bertha Hogan Miller. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kane Miller. Bro. Lelan served our county in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Stockholm United Baptist Church, and ordained into God’s ministry on March 25, 1962. Through the years, Bro. Lelan pastored eleven churches throughout Edmonson, Hart, and Grayson Counties, and helped in over one hundred revivals throughout Kentucky and Tennessee. He leaves to honor his memory—one daughter, Pauletta Sanders (Nelson) of Mammoth Cave; two sons, Ronnie Childress (Sally) and Mark Childress all of Cub Run; daughter-in-law, Joni Childress of Louisville; three brothers, Floyd Childress, Kennith Childress (Nina), and Elmo Childress (Vernice), all of Mammoth Cave; one sister, Aleen James of Brownsville; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Ronnie was an outdoorsman, and thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an avid UK fan. However, his greatest pleasures were found being “Pappy” to his grandchildren, and spending time with his family and friends. Kayla was a graduate of Lindsey Wilson and Western Kentucky University, she worked 27 years for Brite’s furniture, she was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, she loved monograming and loved to sew. Kayla loved her family and spending time with her friends. David Murl “Butch” Higginbotham, age 68, of Park City, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Signature Health Care of Glasgow. He was born in Glasgow, KY on June 14, 1953 to the late Leslie and Margoline Lyons Higginbotham.
Butch worked as a farmer, and also at Park Mammoth Resorts Stables as a trail guide. He was an avid rider and lover of horses. Butch served on the Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Tony was a former employee of T.J. Maxx, an eagle scout and volunteered at the science center. He was also a member of Southwest Christian Church. He leaves to honor his memory— his foster mother, Maggie Whayne (Jim) of Louisville; sister, Rebecca Boyk (Frank) of Sweeden; step-mother, Mamie Spinks of Sweeden and step-brother, Tim Lindsey (Sherry) of Chalybeate, along with several nieces and nephews. He was a son of the late Arlie and Rebecca Susan Bradley Page. Mike was a retired production worker for Georgia Pacific, a member of the American Legion and Rock Castle Gun Club. He served in the U S Marine Corp. His survivors are his three sisters, Sharon Burns (Roger), Janet Riley (Jasper) and Lisa Page and his two brothers, Larry Page (Judy) and Gary Page (Renita); several loving nieces and nephews and his furbabies, Hobo, Munky and Holly Piper. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel with a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Archie Newman Wilson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be make to the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society, 1925 River St., Bowling Green, KY 42101 On July 5, 2021, Jacqueline Wayne Prunty Douglas entered into her heavenly rest at her home surrounded by her family and her loved ones. Jackie was born to the late Haskell Wayne and Jessie Edna Alexander Prunty on October 2nd, 1945.
At the age of nine, she was saved at Zion Church in Louisville. She joined Bee Spring Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member. When she was sixteen, she married the love of her life, Mac Douglas. Mac was a devoted husband and Jackie adored him. Their fifty-nine year marriage was blessed with two children and two grandchildren. They were also blessed with one great-grandson and have another great-grandchild on the way. Along with her husband, Mac, Jackie leaves behind to carry on her legacy, her two loving children, Barry Douglas of Bowling Green and Shelia Perry (Dennis) of Oakland. She will also be missed by her grandsons, Kyle Upton and Tyler Upton (MecKenzie) all of Bowling Green. Her great-grandson, Jake Upton of Oakland will also miss her dearly. She is also survived by her siblings, Phyllis Parsley (Steve) of Brownsville, Steve Prunty (Tina) of Bowling Green, and Susie Skaggs (Eric) of Chalybeate. Jackie is also leaving behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles who will carry on her memory. What a happy day it must have been in heaven when they all could see each other again. She leaves to honor her memory-- two granddaughters, Candice Jordan Sanders and Kaitlyn Sullivan; one great-grandson, Caden; dear friends, Doris Brown and J.R.
