Kathern Lucille Harrod, 89, of Winter Haven, FL departed this life on Tuesday, August 26, 2014. The Evarts, KY native was born April 18, 1925 to the late Wilson and Elsie Smith Huskey and was the wife of the late Clyde E. Harrod.
She was a retired inspector for Philip Morris Tobacco Company and a member of Poplar Spring United Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, Bennie Eugene Harrod of Winter Haven, FL; one daughter-in-law, Peggy Burwell Harrod of Winter Haven, FL; one granddaughter, Ella Harrod Patton (Aaron) of Lafayette, IN; one grandson, Michael David Dodson (Kara) of Media, PA and seven great-grandchildren, Elijah James Patton, Dylan Carter Dodson, Jacob Wesley Patton, Samuel Richard Patton, Kathryn Elizabeth Patton, Caroline Zidek, and William Charles Dodson. The Edmonson County native was born March 21, 1927 to the late William D. Ray and the late Lottie Luttrell Ray. She was the wife of the late Shirley McCombs. She is survived by one sister, Doris Ray Denham of Elizabethtown, KY; one nephew, David Denham and wife Linda; two great nephews, Chris Denham and wife Feleshia and Seth Denham; and special friends The Beard Family. The Indiana native was born May 14, 1952 to the late Homer Tarter and the late Maxine Toms Tarter. She was married to the late Jr. Slayton and Ron Halvorson who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Cedar Springs United Baptist Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two grandchildren, Hailey and Julie Cockrill both of Rocky Hill; two step daughters, Lori Tucker (Aaron) of Frankfort, KY and Melody Avery of Cave City, KY; five step grandchildren, Taylor Emerson, Kevin Emerson, Alora Avery, Aiden Avery and Alex Tucker; two sisters, Alice Temples of Bowling Green, KY and Judy Overfelt (Ronnie) of Glasgow, KY; special cousin, Martha Tarter James (Willard). She was preceded in death by one daughter, Stephanie Cockrill and one sister, Gloria Peger. Burial will be in the Lambert Cemetery with Bro. Malcolm Doyle and Bro. Garrold Johnson officiating. Flossie Elmore Kersey, 95, of Louisville, KY departed this life on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in Louisville. The Edmonson County native was born April 21, 1919 to the late Zollie Thomas Elmore and the late Clarise Rebecca Elmore and was the wife of the late Garnet Kersey.
She was retired from Seagram’s Distillery, a member of the Eastern Star and was a charter member of Wingfield United Baptist Church. She is by survived by her daughter, Bridget Sue Wentling of Louisville, KY; one brother, Parker Elmore of Bee Spring, KY; two grandchildren, Charles Wentling and Sarah Wentling both of Louisville, KY; one great grandchild, Angel Wentling of Louisville, KY; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Danna Steven Kersey; five brothers, David, Lennie, Clem, Mitch and Lee Elmore and two sisters, Ory Hawks and Clency Basham. Cathern Yvonne Basham, 68, of Brownsville passed away at 7:48 PM Aug. 9, 2014 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
The Warren County native was a retired Eaton Corp. employee and a member of Chalybeate United Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Carl Victor Watt and Vasta Lavern Blanton Watt. She was preceded in death by a sister, Debra Lavinia Watt. Funeral will be at 12 Noon Thursday at Otter Gap Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Surviving are her husband, Darrell Basham; a daughter, Kathy Sasse (Jeff) of Bowling Green; a son, John W. Meredith (Lori) of Otter Gap; two stepsons, Michael Basham of Lindseyville and Ben Basham of Bowling Green; a brother, Larry Joe Watt of Bowling Green; five grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Megan Meredith, Austin Sasse, Dalton Sasse and Jackson Sasse; and two great grandchildren, Jonathan Wilson and Corbin Wilson. Hizkiah “ H.C.” Hawkins, 63, Park City, KY passed away Sunday at his residence. He was born August 22, 1950 in Barren County to the late Henry I. Hawkins and the late Nora Lillian Marshall Hawkins and was married to the late Patricia Ann Skaggs Hawkins.
He was a laborer and helped many people in the Park City community . He was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by one daughter, Amanda Hawkins (William Green) of Glasgow, KY; two sons, Chris Hawkins (Cheryl Vincent) and David Hawkins both of Park City; companion, Margaret Forrest of Horse Cave, KY; two brothers, Henry Harry Hawkins (Kim) of Florida and Danny R. Hawkins of Cave City, KY; one sister, Nora Lillian Crews of Florida; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery with Bro. Malcolm Doyle officiating.
