William (Willie) Loy Holmes 58, of Louisville KY died unexpectedly in Bowling Green, KY on August 28, 2017.
Willie was born October 8th, 1958, to Joseph and Harriet Holmes (Harman) in Dover, Delaware. Soon thereafter, the family moved to Louisville, KY where Willie grew up and graduated from DuPont Manual High School. He will always be remembered for his sunny disposition. He greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word. Willie enjoyed fishing and never missed an opportunity to wet his line.

He is survived by three sons, Richard Shawn Laverty (Kiara) Lynchburg VA, William Joseph Holmes and Collin James Holmes Louisville, KY; mother Harriet Chiddister (Harman) Arcadia, FL; sisters Patricia Holmes (Lisa McLaughin) Louisville, KY, Sandra Cheseldine (John) Louisville, KY, Carol Davidson (Scotty Weber) Bowling Green, KY and Jodi Thompson (Thomas) Louisville, KY; two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Earl Holmes, a sister, Margaret Louise Minton (Holmes), and two brothers Thomas Earl Holmes and Christopher John Holmes.

Celebration of Willie's Life will be held on Sunday, September 3rd, 2017 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at 13308 Tucker Lake Dr., Louisville, KY 40299. All are welcome to come and share their love and memories of Willie with each other.

​Lillian Johnson, age 89 of Brownsville, departed this life on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at her residence.  The Edmonson County native was born on March 20, 1928 to the late Ruben J. Vincent and Effie Musick Vincent.  She was married to Ben H. Johnson, who preceded her in death. 

Lillian was a homemaker, a retired seamstress from Louisville Cap Co. and a member of the Baptist faith. 

She leaves to honor her memory one son, Jerry Wayne Johnson of Brownsville; two daughters, Norma Jean Stewart (Eddie) of Lexington and Annell Wilson of Brownsville; four grandchildren, Joseph Allen Ray (Linzy), Tesla Logsdon (Chris), Nikki Stewart and Cheyenne Wilson and three great grandchildren, Rebekah Michelle Ray, Benjamin Wayne Ray and Brennon Lee Logsdon.  She was also preceded in death by one son, Gary Johnson. 

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

​Grace Annell Mudd, age 78, departed this life on August 22, 2017. She was born the daughter of Hubert and Lorene Sanders Cooke. Annell married Elwood Mudd August 18, 1957. To this union two daughters were born, Michelle Ann Mudd Higgins and Myra Elaine Mudd Swift.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Mudd and her parents, Hubert and Lorene Sanders Cooke.
 
Annell professed faith in Christ at Beech Grove United Baptist Church in Shrewsbury, on July 18, 1951 in a revival held by Cortland Sanders and Elza Jaggers. She was baptized on August 12, 1951 by Elza Jaggers. She joined Beech Grove Church and remained a faithful member until death. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed Quilting, Crocheting and Genealogy. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
 
She is survived by her two daughters, Michelle Ann Higgins (Bob) of Franklin, TN and Myra Elaine Swift (Tim) of Leitchfield, KY; three grandchildren, Dillon and Mallory Swift, of Leitchfield and Keefer Higgins of Franklin; one sister, Ruth Carol Woodrum (Roy) of Caneyville, KY.
 
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, (August 26, 2017) at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Bro Gary Woosley officiating. Burial will be in Sanders Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.

​John “Big John” Bewley, age 73, of Chalybeate, KY, departed this life on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Genesis Health Care in Brownsville, KY. The Edmonson County native was born on June 25, 1944 to late Wilbert “Bill” Bewley and the late Millie Gipson Bewley. John was married to the late Fay Priddy Bewley and Perri Houser Bewley of Chalybeate.  

He was a farmer, a bus driver for the Edmonson County School System, and a member of Chalybeate United Baptist Church.

Beside his wife, he leaves to honor his memory, one son, John Allen Bewley of Bardstown; one daughter, Julie Ann Bewley of Smiths Grove; two stepsons, Joshua Lawalin (Sara) of Tell City, IN and Phillip Lawalin (Katie) of Blacksburg, VA; one stepdaughter, Erika Hollinden (Andy) of Tell City, IN; one granddaughter, Mya Lynn Bewley; four step grandchildren, Else Lawalin, Leo Lawalin, Leah Hollinden, Grayson Hollinden; two brothers, James “Tinker” Bewley (Norma Jean) of Cedar Springs and Ralph Bewley (Linda) of Bowling Green and three sisters, Zula Cowles of Bowling Green, Clara Napier (M.A.) of Bowling Green and Hazel Wilson (Tommy) of Shepherdsville.

​Verda Miller, age 97, of Park City, KY, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at her residence. The Edmonson County native was born on July 20, 1920 to the late Aaron Davis and Esther Spillman Davis. She was married to the late Glendon Miller and Lowell Wheeler.

She was a homemaker, a cook at the Mammoth Cave Hotel, and a member at Little Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Patsy Stice (Harlan) of Park City and Peggy Emberton (Robert) of Cave City; three grandchildren, Myra Ray (Eugene) of Smiths Grove, Brian Burks (Oleva) of Glasgow and Whitney Gaskin (David) of Bowling Green; six great grandchildren, Bretta Stice, Ethan Ray, Aaron Ray, Briley Burks, Kaelin Burks and Preston Gaskin; five special caregivers, Dorthy Parker, Sandra McClendon, Pam Blevins, Brenda Ballard and Faye Davidson. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Brently Stice, one brother and two sisters.

​Dee Duvall, 77, of Sweeden, passed away at 9:00 AM on August 17, 2017 at the Medical Center.

The Edmonson County native was a farmer and a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of Jock United Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Patrick Gilliam “P.G.” Duvall and Lessie Roof Duvall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leda Faye Duvall.

Funeral will be at 1:00 PM Sunday at Gravil Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Duvall Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM - 8:00 PMSaturday, and after 9:00 AM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Paul Edward Stice, age 90, of Bowling Green, KY, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at his residence. The Edmonson Co. native was born on April 25,1927 to the late William Earl Stice and the late Tandie Skaggs Stice. He married to Mable Toms Stice of Bowling Green.

He was a barber for 50 years, the former owner of Paul’s Barber Shop, a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, a member of Bowling Green Masonic Lodge #75 F&AM, a WWII Navy Veteran and a Korean War Army Veteran.

Besides his wife he is survived by daughter, Debra Jones (Charlie) of Vine Grove; one son, Rodney Stice (Carmen) of Lexington; five grandchildren, Kegan Flum (Mark), Jason Stice (Yvonne), Allison Allgood (Chris), Austin Jones (Tiffany) Paul Stice; seven great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James Owen, Claude and Virgil Stice.

​ Luretha "Lou" Skaggs, 74, of Brownsville died at 11:44 AM August 13, 2017 at Edmonson Center.
 
The Edmonson County native was a seamstress for Brownsville Manufacturing. She was a daughter of the late Harl Hogan and Thelma Duvall Hogan. She was preceded in death by six brothers; Woodrow Hogan, Lanoka Hogan, Dallas Hogan, Delano Hogan, Darrell Hogan, and Donald Hogan. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Chinessa Bishop.
 
Funeral will be at 1:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow  in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-9 PM Tuesday, 10AM-9 PM Wednesday, and after 10:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.

​Linda Lou Crane, age 73, of Glasgow, KY, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at her residence. The Louisville, KY native was born on July 22, 1944  to the late Oak Gibbons and Dorothy McDaniel of Park City, KY.  
 
She was a former factory worker for Tyson and a member of the Baptist faith.
 
Besides her mother she is survived by two daughters, Katrina Riley and Nikki Lane (Clyde) both of Glasgow, KY; three sons, Ken Crane (Debra) of Cartersville, GA, Chad Crane (Roni) of Minneapolis, MN and Corey Crane (Lori) of Glasgow, KY; two brothers, J.S. McDaniel (Johnette) of Kilgore, TX and Vernon McDaniel (Jan) of Phoenix, AZ; three sisters, Barb Sturtzel (Gil) of Louisville, KY, Carolyn Coulter (Jimmy) of New Albany, IN and June Cole of New Castle, IN; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The Edmonson County native was a homemaker. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Saling and Angie Evelyn Vincent Saling. She was preceded in death by a son, Charlie McGrew; and a sister, Patsy Childers.

The Edmonson County native was a homemaker, an orchard picker and sewing factory worker. She was a daughter of the late Percy Jim Cook and Mary Marie Ashley Cook and the wife of the late Rayburn "Buck" Farris. She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Lashley and two grandchildren, Rayburn Henry Carroll and Darrell Cooke.

​Magdlene "Maggie" Davis Raymer, 89, of Louisville passed away August 6, 2017 in Louisville.
 
The Edmonson County native was Owner and operator of Magdlene's Beauty Salon and was a member of Larchmont Church of God. She was the daughter of the late Willie Davis and Alma Self Davis. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Paul, Claude and Frank Davis.

​Dr. Rhonda Ann Patterson, age 51, of Brownsville KY departed this life on Friday, May 19, 2017 at her residence. The Carthage, MO native was born on September 19, 1965 to the late Ronald Ray Patterson and Patricia Steeley Streng of Crossville, TN.

She was a professor of Biology at Western KY University and Southern Mississippi University.

Besides her mother, she is survived by one brother, David Patterson (Vickie) of Austin, TX; one sister, Elizabeth Schneider (Steve) of Kansas City, MO; one nephew, Ian Schneider; four nieces, Erin Zimmerman (Tim), Meredith Schneider, Marilyn Robinson and Priscilla Robinson.

​Geneva Jo Ashley, age 81 of Brownsville, departed this life on Saturday, August 5, 2017. The Edmonson County native was born on August 3, 1936 to the late Ezra Lindsey and Gussie Booker Lindsey. She was the devoted wife of sixty-one years to the late Jackson Wayne Ashley.

Geneva was a retired office manager from Pearson’s IGA. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Union United Baptist Church, and the Sunday School secretary for over fifty years.

She leaves to honor her memory—one son, Timmy Ashley (Crystal) of Brownsville, KY; two daughters, Denise Johnson (Mike) and Lynette Saling (Rob) both of Mammoth Cave, KY; one brother, William Robert Lindsey (Belinda) of Lindseyville, KY; six grandchildren, Amy White, Brandon Ashley, Adam Johnson (Mindy), Brittany Sowders (Derek), Lauren Parrigan (Caleb) and Lindsey Smith (Nathan); two step grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a host of family and friends. Charles Shafer Brooks “Shorty”, age 93, of Falls of Rough, KY, departed this life on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the BeeHive Assisted Living in Leitchfield, KY. The Edmonson County, KY native was born on February 27, 1924, to the late George W. Brooks and Sarah Meredith Brooks. He was married to the late Jackie Kersey Brooks.

Charles was a heavy equipment operator for Union 181 and was a member of Lone Star Church of Christ.

He leaves to honor his memory, one son, Charles Rick Brooks (Nancy) of Falls of Rough, KY; three daughters, Charlotte A. Russell Vincent, 72 of Smiths Grove died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017 in Louisville, KY.

He was the son of the late Henry and Lillian Taylor Vincent and is preceded in death by two brothers, Junior and Edward and one sister, Maggie Marie Pennington, his mother in law, Pheba Brown.   He was a farmer and a born again Christian.  Russell loved woodcrafts and singing gospel music.

His survivors include his wife of 28 years Bonita Brown Vincent; two sons, Anthony Vincent (Jessica Freeman), Trenton Vincent and one daughter, Angelia Vincent; four sisters, Rosie Hayes, Mary Alvey (Walter) Jeanette Brooks (Coy), Joyce Sanders (Jim); one brother, Roger Dale Vincent (Robin), one sister in law, Frances McCombs, several nieces and nephews and father-in-law, Louis Brown.
