​Violet Hogan Lewis, age 88 of Horse Cave, KY, departed this life on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at T.J. Sampson Hospital. The Barren County native born on September 4, 1931 to the late Allen L. Hogan and Mary Elizabeth Martin Hogan. She was married to Jay Lewis, who also preceded her in death.

Violet was a loving, devoted mother and lifelong friend to all that knew her. She began working as a waitress at the Mammoth Cave Hotel when she was only 13 years old. That was the beginning of a career in serving others that lasted 49 years.  Violet loved everyone she met. To know her was to love her.  She lived in close contact with God and centered her life around God’s will knowing He had the bigger, better plan.  We will miss her deeply but we know she is doing a jitterbug with Jesus!

She leaves to honor her memory-- four sons, Robert “Bob” Lewis (Ruby) of Gulf Breeze, FL, Larry Lee Lewis (Sandy Stone) of Carrollton, GA, David Jay Lewis (Vicky) of Fountain Run, John Daniel Lewis (Leslie) of Cave City; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and one sister, Hazel Gibson of Park City.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

​James Raymer, age 74, of Sweeden, departed this life on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. The Edmonson County native was born on September 27, 1945 to the late Noel and Dolly Hogan Raymer. He was married to Rita Lindsey Raymer, who also preceded him in death.

James retired as a heavy equipment operator, and was a member of Beaver Dam United Baptist Church.   He loved his family, and thoroughly enjoyed being a “Popaw”  and caring for his grandchildren.

He leaves to honor his memory-- two sons, Kevin Raymer (Stacy) of Chalybeate and Ken Raymer (Mendy) of Sweeden; five grandchildren, Logan Raymer (Alexis), Carly Staron (Casey), Ben Raymer, Blake Raymer and Bryce Raymer; two great-grandchildren, Emmerson Raymer and Landry Raymer; two sisters, Suzie Hardin and Rosalie Durbin (Keith) and several nieces and nephews.  Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Noel “Nick” Raymer, Jr. 

Interment will be in Beaver Dam Church Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Cub Creek Cemetery Fund.

Kathleen Joyce Donahue, 79, of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday August 23, 2020.  She was born on February 27, 1941 in Sunfish Kentucky, the daughter of the late James and Hazel Lashley.  

Besides her husband of 49 years, James,  she leaves to cherish her memory, sisters, Norma “Jean” (Russ) King of New Albany, Indiana, Irene Moore (Paul) of Louisville, Sharlene (Kenny) of Bowling Green Kentucky, niece, Lisa Sowders of New Albany, who was also her caregiver, brother-in-laws, Alvin and Pat (Lori) Donahue, sisters-in-law, Nancy Canales and Cathy (Hilary), as well as 9 nieces and nephews. 

​Expressions of sympathy can be made in Kathleen’s honor to her church, St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Louisville.

JoAnn Rochester, 86 of Athens, AL, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 at Limestone Health Facility. Mrs. Rochester was born on May 7th, 1934 to George Jackson Dean and Lutie Louella Wilburn Dean.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rochester will be held on Thursday, August 20th at 12:00pm,

She is survived by her daughters Susan Lauderdale (Dee), and Pat McDougal (Brad); granddaughters Elizabeth Parker (Chris), Savanna Gray (Caleb), and Sara Lauderdale; great-grandsons Jack Swayne and Bennet Gray; brother Bill Dean; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband Coy Rochester; and brothers Charles Dean, Dale Dean, and Don Dean.

She was a charter member of Friendship Methodist Church.

Helen Mae Embry, age 75

Helen Mae Embry, age 75, of Roundhill, departed this life on Sunday, August 16, 2020.  The Edmonson County native was born on September 19, 1944 to the late Mancel and Virginia Cummings Shields.  She was married to Lindel Calvin Embry, who preceded her in death.

Helen retired as a seamstress from Fruit of the Loom, and as an inspector with Sumitomo.  She was a member of Decker Baptist Church.

She leaves to honor her memory-- five daughters, Lisa Rone of Roundhill, Amy Phelps (Timothy) of Swannanoa, NC, Sandra Lindsey (Rodney) of Sunfish, Janetta Crandell (Roundhill) and Genevieve McKinney (Randall) of Quality; one son, David Haynes (Geraldine) of Roundhill; one step-son, Lonnie Embry (Wilma) of Glasgow; twenty grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Voyles; Janice Cook (Robert) and Joy Smith and one brother, Ricky Shields (Carolyn).  She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Phillip and Stevie Shields. 

Interment will be in Slate Bank Cemetery.

Ira Louis Meredith, age 88 of Bee Spring, KY departed this life on Friday, August 14, 2020 in Bee Spring. He was born in Edmonson County on September 23, 1931 to the late Johnny A. and Alice Meredith. He was married to Wanda Mae Alvey Meredith, who preceded him in death. 

Ira was a self-employed sawmill operator, farmer and a member of Jock United Baptist Church. 

He leaves to honor his memory-- two daughters, Teresa Brooks (Monty) of Bee Spring and Kathy Decker (Elroy) of Anneta; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three daughters, Sharon Meredith, Wanda Leigh Lane and Pauline Decker and one son, Bro. Thomas Meredith.

Interment will be in Jock Cemetery.

Leda Childress age 84, a resident of Heritage Hall Nursing Facility in Lawrenceburg, passed away Tuesday morning, August 4.  She was born in Straw, a little community of Edmonson County, on October 11, 1935.  She was the daughter of the late Melvin Arthur Childress and Ida Lena Wilson Childress.  She was a retired accountant with Ford Motor Company and she was of the Methodist faith.
 
Leda is the last of 13 children who preceded her in death Wilma Rigdon, Herlie Childress, Aleen Stevenson, Robert A. Childress, Alvin Childress, Pauline Childress(as an infant), Laverne Sally Sanders, Lilbon Childress, Wilbur Childress, Eugene Childress, Jimmy Childress(as an infant) and Geraldine Wood.
 
Leda is survived by her husband Garland Kenneth Childress who she married on August 17, 1953
She is also survived by several nieces & nephews

Funeral services for Leda Childress will be 12:30 CST Friday, August 7 at the Cub Run Methodist Church
with burial in the Cub Run Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 9:30am Friday at the Cub Run Methodist Church.

​Georgina Rose Doiron Burnett, age 92, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2020 in San Diego, CA.  She was born in Prince Rupert, Canada on March 1, 1928 to the late Leo Doiron and Augustine Stolz Doiron. She was married to the late Hal T. Burnett in 1945.
 
Georgina was a devout Christian and is now 'Home', eternally happy with God.
 
She leaves to honor her memory-- one daughter, Debbie Keller (Tom) of San Diego, CA; three grandsons; six great grandchildren; one sister, Margaurite DuMont (Alf); and several nieces and nephews. 
 
Internment will be in Silent Grove Cemetery.

​EuRita Ellis, age 86, of Arcadia, IN passed away August 8, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
 
She was born April 30, 1934 at Sunny Point, Kentucky to Wilbur and Luvena (Bratcher) Davis.  Much of her life was lived in the Louisville and Bowling Green, Kentucky areas.
 
She married the love of her life, J.B. Ellis and together they built a faith based life raising their three children in Louisville, KY.  As a young family, they enjoyed swimming and boating together.  Rita, as she was fondly known, had a green thumb and she raised various vegetables that she canned and shared with others. She and J. B. also loved to travel to far away places such as Hawaii, Chile and the Middle East. Upon retirement, she and J.B. moved to Bowling Green, KY where they spent time with longtime friends.  She became a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she volunteered for community outreach activities.  She was also actively involved in Bowling Green Senior Services where she planned events and was a volunteer water aerobics instructor. But utmost in her life was her family and she remained interested in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
 
Surviving her is a son: James Boyd (Pam) Ellis of Arcadia, IN, Paula (Jeffrey) White of Cary , NC, and Rita Laun Nene (Tom) Hyzak of Cary , NC, grandchildren: Megan and Joe Sterrett, Whitney Ellis, Erika and Will Harbert, Jeffery Paul White, Jake Ellis, Jordan Ellis, John Thomas Hyzak, great grandchildren: Kali Liles, Zach Davis, Ian Sterett, Liberty Ellis, sisters: Jenelle VanMeter, and Joyce Ann Meredith.
 
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 15, 2020 with burial to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Caneyville, KY.  Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. The Jefferson County native was a member of Incarnation Catholic Church. She was a daughter of the late David Anthony Clark and Rhonda Webb Brown of Clarksville, IN who survives. She was preceded in death by grandparents, James Clifford Webb, Anna Minton and Joseph and Patricia Clark; an aunt, Lesa Minton; and an uncle, Clifford "Hoss" Webb.
 
Visitation will be 5-8 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private. Burial will take place in Brownsville Cemetery.
 
Also surviving are a brother, Brian Woodcock (Dana) of Bee Spring; a sister, Melissa Hennion (Kenny) of Cedar Springs; step father, Kenny Brown; four aunts, Patricia Hilpp of Floyds Knob, IN, Jackie Minton Frederick of Louisville, Marcie Olson of Bowling Green and her special aunt, Judy Webb of Brownsville; and an uncle, Billy Minton of Greensburg.

The Edmonson County native was a seamstress for Phar-Shar and Kellwod, a homemaker and a member of  Sunny Point General Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Ed Lindsey and Flossie Whobrey Lindsey and the wife of the late Dewey Simpson. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Higgs.
 
Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday at Gravil Funeral Home. Funeral services are private. Burial will take place in Sunny Point Cemetery.
 
Surviving are two sons, Don Simpson (Gloria) of Sunny Point and Jeff Simpson (Tammy) of Falls of Rough; three daughters, Rita Wolfe (Mike) of Brownsville and Debbie Durbin (Wavey) and Sandy Johnson (Jerry) both of Sunny Point; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Campbell, Scotty Higgs, Tina Curtis, Derrick Simpson, Jennifer Sholar, Crystal Wolfe, Devin Simpson, Dillon Simpson, Zachery Wolfe and Brooke Simpson; and 17 great grandchildren.

The Edmonson County native was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove United Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late James Graham and Violet Lorene Poteet Graham. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Don Graham, Harold Graham and Cecil Graham.
 
Public visitation will be 5-8 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery.
 
Surviving are her husband, Johnny V. Lindsey; a daughter, Katherine Ann Lindsey of Brownsville; a son, David Lindsey (Jennifer) of Brownsville; three sisters, Wilma Lay (Aubrey), Wanda Graham and Karen Jaggers (Terry); two brothers, Bruce Graham (Tammy) and Randy Graham (Karen); two granddaughters, Tiffany Carnes (Kyle) and Amber Brooks (Tyler); and four great grandchildren, Braxton Carnes, Zaylee Carnes, Greyson Brooks and Kade Brooks.

​Yvonne Houchin Campbell, age 80 of Cedar Springs, KY departed this life on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at  Baptist Health Louisville.  She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 11, 1940 to the late Hamilton Houchin and Una Tarter Houchin.  She was married to Emmett Campbell, who preceded her in death. 

Ms. Campbell retired as an English teacher from the Edmonson County School System.  After retirement, she was actively involved in her community serving as a member of the Capitol Hill Homemakers, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, the local Foster Care Review Board and The Council of Aging.  She was also a faithful member of Cedar Springs United Baptist Church. 

She leaves to honor her memory-- one daughter, Ann-Renae Campbell of Crestwood; two grandchildren, Desiree Renae Noland and Blake Campbell Noland; her great-granddaughter, Jude Renae Marzian; one brother, Roger Houchin (Connie) along with several nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie and Wayne Houchin.

Interment will be in Lambert Cemetery.

Mildred Young Bryant, age 91

Mildred Young Bryant, age 91 of Smiths Grove, passed away on August 2, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Good Luck, Metcalfe County, Kentucky on July 23, 1929 and was the youngest daughter of the late James Emory and Leatha Whitlow Young.

Mildred was proceeded in death by her devoted husband of 53 years, Rodney Bryant; a son, Rodney Dwayne Bryant, brothers Otis Young, Prentice Young, Otha Young and Howard Young; sisters, Mae Parsley and Maxine Lowe.

Mildred retired from Desa International and assisted her husband with the operation of their family farm. She was a member of the Smiths Grove United Methodist Church. Mildred also was a member of the Chalybeate Homemakers and Women of the Moose.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured time with all her family and embraced every moment with them. She especially enjoyed her role as "Nanny" to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others. She always looked forward to attending the "Senior Day" at the Smiths Grove Presbyterian Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Elaine Bryant Yates and her husband, Roger; a son, David Bryant; a sister Rhea Palmer. Grandchildren include Stacey Jordan, Jamie Bryant Melton (Jeff), David Bryant (Crystal), Jennifer Jordan, and Zack Allison (Raya). She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Samantha Melton, Haley Melton, Ashley Melton, Trey Melton, and James Rodney Bryant.

Mildred was also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and countless friends whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This will be a "walk-through" only and mask are required.

Visitation will continue on Friday, August 7, 2020 at the Smiths Grove Presbyterian Church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be private at 1:00 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in the Smiths Grove Cemetery.

Sherman Lewis Peger, 66

Sherman Lewis Peger, 66 of Roundhill died Friday, July 31, 2020 at the Medical Center.

The Edmonson County native was a son of the late Raymond and Betty Meredith Peger and preceded in death by a sister, Edna Beth Peger. He was the husband of the late Gloria Tarter Peger and Tammy Carroll Peger. Sherman was a heavy equipment operator in construction. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was the first quarterback of the first team to play for Edmonson County High School.

His survivors include a daughter, Selena Peger and a son, Joshua Peger; two grandchildren, Cody and Destiney Peger, one great grandchild, Donovan, three sisters, Martha Hatfield (Mike), Jan Hornbeak (Richard), Happiness Miller; one brother Michael Peger (LeNora) and several nieces and nephews.
​

There will be no service held as he chose cremation. Arrangements were in the care of Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel.

​Avery Martin Logsdon, age 72

​Avery Martin Logsdon, age 72 of Wingfield, KY departed this life on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. He was born in Edmonson County on October 19, 1947 to the late Raymond Earl and Lillie Mae Glass Logsdon, and married to Shelia Davis Logsdon, who survives. 

Avery was a member of the UAW and Pleasant Grove “Miller Hill” Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and song leader. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and was a retired tool and die maker for General Motors.

Besides his wife he leaves to honor his memory two daughters, Jeanne Bullock of Wingfield and Debbie Doyle (Darren) of Chalybeate; four grandchildren, Madison Doyle, Cole Bullock, Alyssa Doyle and Chase Bullock; three siblings, Virginia Hawks (Ronell), Freddie Logsdon (Vickie) and Linda Lillard; honorary son, David Logsdon (Misti) along with several nieces and nephews. 

Memorial contributions may be made to:  Miller Hill Church, c/o Jerry Miller.

Interment will be in Miller Hill Church Cemetery with graveside honors by Nisbet Alexander Memorial Post #6937 V.F.W.
