 Rev. Owen Junior Meredith, of Cave City departed this life on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at his residence. The Hart County native was born on June 14, 1942 to the late Graden J. and Lissie Burba Meredith. He was married to his devoted wife and best friend, Magaline Childress Meredith, who survives.
Rev. Junior was a member of Northtown United Baptist Church and Bearwallow Cave City Masonic Lodge #231 F&AM. He worked as a certified welder, and was a co-owner of Magaline’s Antique Mall and Magaline’s Sandwich Shop. Besides his wife, Magaline, he leaves to honor his memory, his daughter, Lisa Wilson (David) of Scottsville; sisters, Joann Dennis (Charles), Bertha Williams and Mary Jane Alvey and a brother, Samuel Meredith. Interment will be in the Northtown Church Cemetery. Natosha was a 2008 graduate of Edmonson County High School, and went on to play collegiate basketball for Mid Continent University and Dyersburg State Community College. She was athletic, an amazing cook and loved the outdoors! She loved fishing, hunting for mushrooms and cooking for her family and friends. Her personality was contagious, and she always showed true love and kindness to those that meant the most to her. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She leaves to honor her memory—her fiancé, David Stotts of Center; son, Rylon William Tomes of Glasgow; sister, Beth Ann Gibbons (Anthony) of Cave City; nephews, Samuel and Issac Gibbons; aunt, Charlene White, honorary mother, Marilyn Jones (Tim); father-in-law, Phillip Stotts (Melissa) and brother-in-law, Sammy Stotts (Sara Beth). The Joliet, IL native was an owner of Lil’ Abner’s, a CNA at Grayson manor, a personal caregiver and a member of Harvest Time Apostolic Church. She was a daughter of the late John Liccardi and Jenny Pesce. She was preceded in death by a son, John A. Everett “Butch” Simpson Jr, age 66, of Bee Spring, died on Monday, August 28, 2023 at his home. One could say it was an unexpected passing, but this sort of ugly, unceremonious death can always be expected when you choose drugs over anything else, including your own children. These children, Everett “Charlie” Simpson III (Alexis) and Jessica Simpson, aren’t left to “honor his memory”- they’re left to wonder why they were never enough for him to get clean, and to deal with the pain of never having a real, present father.
Butch worked for many years for Holley Carburetor, and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Simpson Sr; mother, Jacqueda Harrison Knight; two brothers, Lewis Kevin Simpson and Charles “Chuck” Simpson; and one sister Regina “Jeanne” Tarantino. Sylvia was a member of Park City Baptist Church and a member of Barren County Homemakers. She was a former manager at Helig-Meyers, a farmer and attended Temple Hill School. The Barren County native was born on August 8, 1947 to the late Robert Lee and Willie Myrtle Bunch. She was married to her devoted husband of forty–seven years, Kenneth Wayne Glass, who survives.
Brenda was of the Baptist faith, and worked for years taking care of the elderly. She had a beautiful voice and such a talent to play the piano and sing. Brenda and Kenneth thoroughly enjoyed taking a stroll down the back country roads on their motorcycle with the Christian Motorcyclists Association. Besides her husband, Kenneth, she leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Tina Morgan Burton (David) of Cave City; a grandson, Quentin Lee Burton of Cave City; a brother, Roger Lee Bunch (Norma) of Glasgow; four nieces and several great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Thelma Bunch. Interment will be in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. The Edmonson County native was a 1979 graduate of Edmonson County High School, a construction worker- working mostly as a carpenter and bridge builder, was a proud U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Fairview United Baptist Church. He was a son of Bobby Carnes and Judy Saling Carnes of Bee Spring, who survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Joe Carnes. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM Monday at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will take place 3-7 PM Sunday and after 9:00 AM Monday at Gravil Funeral Home. Necia Joyce Jaggers Brooks, 84, of Louisville passed away at 9:32 AM Aug. 16, 2023 at Baptist Health in Louisville.
The Edmonson County native was a production line worker for General Electric and a member of Cove Hollow United Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Marvin Thomas Jaggers and Sylvia Poteet Jaggers. She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Brooks; a sister, Darlene Jaggers Childress; three grandsons, Brandon Brooks, Jeremy Shelton and Jason Shelton; and a great granddaughter, Willow Necia Shelton. Kathy Helen Mercer, age 66, passed away in Bowling Green, Kentucky on August 14, 2023. She was born in Louisville Kentucky to Merial Jaggers and Bethel (Poteet) Jaggers in December of 1956. She is preceded in death by her father Merial Jaggers.
Kathy was blessing in every way. She was a wonderful mother, and she loved her grandbabies. She was crazy about her husband Of 42 years and loved all of her family dearly. She liked to paint and she loved to go fishing. She was always there to listen and lend a helping hand. Survivors include her husband Lennis Mercer and their children; Jamie Mercer (Kevin Whitaker), and Kevin Mercer. Her mother Bethel Jaggers, three grandchildren; William Shields, Haley Shields, and Charli Mercer as well as one great grandson, Karson Johnson. Siblings James Jaggers (Debbie), Allen Jaggers (Melinda), and Mirlyn Jaggers, in addition to several nieces and nephews who also survive. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, August 18 at the J.C. Martha Francene Duvall Vasiloff, age 76 of Brownsville, departed this life on Monday, August 14, 2023 at her residence. The Edmonson County native was born on July 31, 1947 to the late Rex and Orene Lashley Duvall.
While living in Detroit, Martha worked many years as a bank teller for Comerica. She was of the Christian faith and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother and gram to her grandchildren. She leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Vicki Saling (Shawn) of Bee Spring; grandchildren, Samantha Saling, McKenzie Saling and Cole Saling along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son, Darren Vasiloff and her sister, Mary Jean Arnett. Judy was born in Edmonson County on May 21, 1946 to Robert and Violet Cannon. She received salvation at the age of 13 at a little Baptist church near Shepherdsville, KY. She was married to H. G. Hawks for 57 years. Judy was a stay-at-home mom for much of her life and was a very private person. She loved her family and spent almost all of her time caring for them. Judy was very dedicated to her husband and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. G. Hawks and her parents, Robert Cannon and Violet Elmore Cannon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hawks Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM Wednesday. Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” Filback, 72, of Sweeden passed away August 11, 2023 at Hospice House in Bowling Green.
The Jefferson County native was a carpenter and a member of Poplar Springs United Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Jesse Filback and Nella Zen Filback Nevil and the husband of the late Marsha Johnson Filback. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday at Sweeden Cemetery. Thomas Kelly Jaggers, 81, of Mt. Washington passed away at 7:07 PM August 8, 2023 at Baptist Health East in Louisville.
The Edmonson County native was a retired maintenance supervisor for McCormick Baron, a self-employed HVAC technician and a member of Cove Hollow United Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Leo Jaggers and Ida Poteet Jaggers. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Claydean Jaggers, Lennie Jaggers, Albert Jaggers, Dennie Jaggers, Chlorine Slaughter and Sue Carnes. The Warren County native was born on April 24, 1962 to the late Gilbert and Jewell Cardwell. She was married to her devoted, loving husband, Lawrence Childress, who survives.
LaDonna worked for many years as a waitress at The Hill Top and several of the local restaurants. She always worked hard, wore a friendly smile and loved sharing a good laugh with those she served. LaDonna was a member of Stockholm United Baptist Church. Besides her husband, Lawrence, she leaves to honor her memory— two daughters, Jamie Lindsey (Brian) of Bee Spring and Rebecca Childress of Mammoth Cave; granddaughter, Hayley Lindsey of Bee Spring; three brothers, James Cardwell, Donnie Cardwell and David Cardwell (Margie); five sisters, Frances Lovins (Gordon), Darlene Wright (Jim), Anna Atwell (Robert), Marketta Denham and Amy Sampson, along with several nieces and nephews. The Edmonson County native was owner and operator of Sonny’s Kustom Trim & Upholstery and was a US Army Reserve veteran. After retirement, he picked up the hobby of Mountain Man, where he was known as “Grey Fox”. He was the son of the late Wallace Whorley and Isthmie Basham Whorley. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Whorley and a sister, Beverly Sharp. No public services are scheduled. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Surviving are three children, Kenny Whorley of Shepherdsville, Isthmie Hornback (Matt) of Cub Run and Shaun Whorley of Lexington; eight grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.  Joyce Beavers, 73, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on December 3, 1949 in Edmonson County to the late David and Charlotte Elmore. Joyce was a retired bus driver from the Daviess County Public Schools.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Beavers and her siblings, Adeline, Emaline, Tom, Margie, Kenneth, Robert, and Howard. Survivors include her children, Paul Nave (Amy Kessinger) and Sherri Dockery (John); seven grandchildren, Tera Nave, Trevor Nave, Haley Bradshaw, Madison Hagan, Morgan Hagan, Alyssa Dockery, and Breanna Price; two great-grandchildren, Aveline and Seraphina; two siblings, Jane "Geraldine" Simmons and Willie Elmore, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Caroline Seabolt Meredith and a brother, Allen Seabolt. Velma Martin Raymer, age 95 of Louisville, departed this life on Monday, July 31, 2023 in Louisville. The Edmonson County native was born on November 22, 1927 to the late Myrtle Martin Adwell. She was married to the late Leon Raymer.
Velma retired from American Cellophane and was of the Christian faith. She was a music enthusiast, although her greatest enjoyment was her family and animals. She wanted them cared for above all else. She leaves to honor her memory— her children, Edmund Kemper (Monica), Robert Lee Kemper, Jr. (Penny), Suzanne Terrell (Garry) and Thomas Kemper all of Louisville; grandchildren, Ashley Kemper, Jessica Kemper, Matthew Kemper, April Meleski (John), Christina Baldwin (Benjamin), Kelly Rogers (Carl), Stephen Kemper, Jr. (Jamie) and Garry Terrell, Jr.; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Doyle; several nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved cats, ViVi, Buddy, Sophia, Peter and Pookie.
