Joan (Elmore) Bonta, 73, of Shepherdsville, passed away on September 24, 2016. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought great joy to her life. She loved horseracing, NASCAR, flowers, playing cards and Bingo. 

Joan was born in Edmonson County, Kentucky on March 12, 1943 to the late Elbert and Orpha (Dyer) Elmore. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers, Dewey, Trenton, Rayburn, and Dale; two sisters, Wanda and Ella Jean; and one infant granddaughter, Brittney.

Joan is survived by four children, Maria Diane Nugent, Thomas Sanders (Debbie), Lisa Wilson (Tim), and Johnnie Sanders; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. 

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm central time on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Cedar Springs United Baptist Church (8874 Brownsville Road, Brownsville, KY) with visitation from 11:00 am until time of service. Burial in Lambert Cemetery will follow services. Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Louisville Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

Elizabeth “Libby” Graham, age 74, of Brownsville, KY, departed this life on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. The Warren County native was born on December 6, 1941 to the late Roy Lewis and Ethel Graham House. She was married to the late Earl Graham.

Elizabeth was a homemaker and member of Pine Grove Presbyterian Church.

She leaves to honor her memory, three sons, Timmy Graham (Tina) of Pine Grove, KY, Richard Graham (Bonnie) Wingfield, KY, and Larry Graham (Felicia) Cedar Springs, KY; two daughters, Dreama Watt (Randy) Cedar Springs, KY, and Mary Jessie Pine Grove, KY; three brothers, Johnny Lewis of Bowling Green, KY, James Lewis (Brenda) of Scottsville, KY, and Ricky House of Pine Grove, KY; two sisters, Patty Goodman of Pine Grove, KY, and Debbie Raisor (Floyd) of Wingfield, KY; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Sue Graham-Davis, one brother, Tommy Lewis, and four sisters, Thelma Meredith, Marilyn Simmons, Genice House and Sue Wentworth.

Interment will be in Hawks Cemetery.

​Charlen Adwell Skaggs, age 75 of Park City, KY, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016 in Glasgow, KY. She was born on May 17, 1941 in Warren County, KY, to the late James Earl Adwell and Minnie Myrtle Martin Adwell. She was married to the late Ernest Wallace Skaggs.

Charlen was a waitress and worked for Brock Hotel, Holiday Inn, Park Mammoth Resort, and Sahara Steakhouse. She was also a member of Park City Baptist Church.

She leaves to honor memory one son, Roy Wallace Skaggs of Park City, KY; three daughters, Debbie Lynn Easto, Linda Faye Lewis, Dianna Lee Proffitt (James) all of Cave City, KY; two sisters, Velma Raymer of Brownsville, KY, Wanda Doyle (J.B.) of Park City, KY; six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Penny Faye Lewis, one brother, Jr. Earl Adwell, two sisters, Brenda Sue Hays and Eva Hudson.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Frank Powell, age 75 of Cave City, KY, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his home in Cave City, KY. The Luzerne County, PA native was born February 23, 1942 to the late Alice Pompawitz.

He was a former employee of State of Connecticut and a Korean war Army veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna Powell and Alice Ann Powell; one brother, William Powell; long time companion, Irene Parker and her children Patrick and Michael Parker, Jackie Breton, April Madigan and Edith Parker.

Nicky Meredith, age 66, of Bee Spring, KY, departed this life on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at his residence in Bee Spring, KY. The Edmonson County native was born on December 28, 1949 to Edward H. Meredith and the late Dorothy Duvall Meredith.

Nicky was a retired material handler for Kellwood Manufacturing and member of Bee Spring Missionary Baptist Church.

Besides his father he leaves to honor his memory, one nephew, Jefty Edward Meredith; and one niece, Latasha Meredith. He is also preceded in death by his brother Jefty Meredith.

Interment will be in Bee Spring Church Cemetery.

​Delphia Marie Blanton, age 79, of Chalybeate, KY, departed this life on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in Brownsville. The Edmonson County native was born on March 22, 1937 to the late Presley Robert Graham and Maggie Elsie Cowles Graham. She was married for 56 years to Raymond Blanton who survives.

Delphia was a homemaker and a member of Otter Gap Missionary Baptist Church.

Besides her husband she leaves to honor her memory, three sons, Robert Blanton, Danny Blanton and Terry Blanton (Sherry) all of Chalybeate, KY; four grandchildren, Sean Blanton (Nikki), Taran Blanton, Danielle Blanton, Chase Blanton and eight great grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by one daughter, Renea Blanton, two brothers, Hack and Truman Graham, and three sisters, Hallie Denham, Louise Holder, and Christine Houchin.

​Charlsie Elizabeth Ashley, 83, of Brownsville passed away at 11:15 AM Sept. 11, 2016 at Hospice House in Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a retired factory worker and a member of Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Dan Vincent and Carrie Doris McCawley Vincent and the wife of the late Harold Ashley. She was preceded in death by a son, Danny Ashley.
 
Funeral will be at 1:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Sweeden Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-9 PM Wednesday and after 9 AM Thursday.
 
Surviving are a daughter, Regina Roof (Gary) of Brownsville; a son, Jeremiah Ashley (Jennifer) of Brownsville; nine grandchildren, Danielle Lindsey, Colt Ashley, Joshua Roof, Nicholas Roof, Cory Ashley, Jacob Roof, Cody Ashley and Rebecca Ashley.

​Shirley Faye Pedigo, age 80 of Cave City, KY, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Glenview Health Care Facility in Glasgow, KY. The Barren County native was born August 24, 1936 to the late Jess Brooks and the late Elma Mae Hughes Brooks. She was married to the late Carrol L. Pedigo, Jr.

She was a former employee of Dart and was a member of Little Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by one sister, Ruth Johnson (James) of Elizabethtown, KY; two nieces, Ann Colette Doyle (Michael) of Glasgow, KY and Debra Dean Macaluso (Larry) of Madisonville, LA; one nephew, Michael Elgin (Beth) of Winchester, VA and one great niece, Emma Caroline Doyle of Glasgow, KY.

​Kenneth M. Cowles, age 78 , of Brownsville, KY, departed this life on Saturday, September 10, 2016 in Brownsville. The Edmonson County native was born on February 10, 1938 to the late Geneva Cowles and Tandy Denham Cowles. He was the husband of Verma Cowles.

Kenneth worked as a tape edger for Bandy Bedding.

​Richard D Pruitt, “Mickey,” passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Silverado Memory Care, Lake Zurich, IL surrounded by his loving family.
 
He was born in Sweeden, Kentucky, on October 2, 1942, moving to Joliet, IL in 1967, after serving in the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed at Uniroyal, GM Electromotive, and Woodruff Golf Course.              
 
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years, Loretta, in 2001; and his parents, Pauline and Loren Pruitt.
 
Mickey is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Greg) Sobiesk; stepdaughters, Barbara M’Lady, Donna (Earl) Hettman; cherished grandchildren, Mason and McKenzie Sobiesk, Marshall M’Lady, Scott (Deja) and Michael and Brett (Maggie) Hettman; one great-granddaughter, Presley Hettman. He is also survived by one sister, Charlotte (Chester) Carroll; his brothers, Ronald (Madeline) and Loren (Brenda) Pruitt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
 
Mickey was an avid golfer, enjoyed all sports but especially loved watching his grandchildren participate in their various sporting events. He loved life and enjoyed it to its fullest.
 
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on September 10, 2016 at Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church in Sweeden, Kentucky.
 
Cremation rites were accorded privately.
 
Memorials in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 850 Essington Road, Suite 200, Joliet, IL 60435, would be appreciated.

​Charles “Freddy” Harmon, age 73, of Mammoth Cave, KY, departed this life on Friday, September 2, 2016 at his daughters residence. The Louisville native was born on October 14, 1942 to the late Charles Fredrick Harmon, Sr. and Martha Genevive Stanley.

Charles worked as a self employed carpet layer and was of the Baptist faith.

He leaves to honor his memory, three sons, Charles Harmon, III of Seattle, WA, Christopher Harmon (Samantha) of Vine Grove, KY, Michael Harmon of Rineyville, KY; four daughters, Frances Osmon ( Ronald) of Cecila, KY, Angela Hayse (Billy) of Leitchfield, KY, Lora Saltsman (Bill) of Leitchfield, KY, Alicia Harmon Ferguson (Ethan) of Rineyville, KY; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
