Sonja Ray Napier, age 51 of Chalybeate, departed this life on Friday, September 29, 2017 at The Medical Center of Bowling Green.  The Edmonson County native was born on October 5, 1965 to the late Eldon Danny Ray and Janelle Rutherford Ray, who survives.  She was married to her best friend, James Napier, who survives.

She was an accounting supervisor for Director’s Chair and Houchens Industries, and a faithful member of Chalybeate United Baptist Church. 

Besides her husband and mother, she leaves to honor her memory— two daughters, Amber Webb (Christopher) and Cassie Larson all of Chalybeate; one son, Dustan Napier of Bowling Green; one honorary son, C.J. Balke; one honorary daughter, Aryah Miller; three grandchildren, Colton, Lillie and Easton Webb; in-laws, Clara and MA Napier and a sister-in-law, Shelia Sullivan (Dennis).  

Interment will be in Kinser Cemetery.

​Carolyn Tarter, age 71 of Brownsville, departed this life on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Genesis Health Care Edmonson Center.  The Edmonson County native was born on October 18, 1945 to the late Wilson and Annie Lewis Davis.  She was married to Glendon R. Tarter, who preceded her in death.  

She retired from Greenview Regional Hospital as certified nursing assistant, and was a member of Beaver Dam United Baptist Church.  

She leaves to honor her memory— one daughter, Laura Burch (Dan) of Hadley; one grandson, Glendon Ray Meredith (Brittany) of Brownsville; one niece, Tammy Graham (Bruce) and three nephews, Mike Tarter (Sue), Bradley Tarter and Dennis Tarter.

Sam Sandefur, age 73, of Glasgow, KY, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at his residence. He was born June 3, 1944 in McLean Co., KY to the late Coleman Sandefur and the late Wilma Warren Sandefur. He was married to Sylvia Sandefur, who survives.

He was a mechanic, worked at AutoZone and a member of Bear Wallow Cave City  Masonic Lodge #231 F&AM.
Beside his wife, he is survived by two sons, Christopher Sandefur and Samuel Wright (Mallory) both of Bowling Green; one daughter, Veronica Stevens (Danny) of Bowling Green; three stepsons, Burl Scott, Jr. (Valerie), Chris Scott (Jeanine) and Scotty Scott (Susan) all of Glasgow; one brother, Coleman Sandefur (Bess) of Henderson; one sister, Linda Austin of Owensboro; fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wade Sandefur and brother-in-law Sam Austin.

Interment will be in Walnut Hill Church Cemetery.

​Harold D Graham, 73 of Brownsville died Monday, Sept. 25, 2017 at the Medical Center.

The Edmonson County native was a son of the late James Fuller and Violet Lorene "Dean" Poteet Graham.  He is preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Don Graham.  He was a retired landscaper and a member of Otter Gap Missionary Baptist Church. 

His survivors include two daughters, Tonya Blanton(Patrick) and Amy Graham Turner; one son, Jeren Hope; six grandchildren, Joe, Emilee, Abby, Sadie, Nate and Debra; two brothers, Randy and Bruce Graham; four sisters, Karen Jaggers, Wanda Graham, Kathy Lindsey, Wilma Lay; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Pine Grove United Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

​Estil Keith,  age 85 of Cedar Springs, departed this life on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at his home. The Edmonson County native was born on November 26, 1931 to the late Benjamin Luther Keith and Mary Bethel Keith.  Estil was married to Lena “Bea” Keith, who preceded him in death. 

He was the owner of Keith Realty and Auction,   a retired supervisor for the Kentucky Department of Highways and an original member of the Edmonson County Industrial Authority Board. Estil was a member of Cedar Springs United Baptist Church, past master for McClure Lodge #539 F&AM and a former Masonic District Deputy.

He leaves to honor his memory two sons, Rickey Keith (Janet) and Greg “Jake” Keith (Lorri) both of Cedar Springs; four grandchildren, Miranda Russell (Mike), Brittany Mabrey (Richard), Shawn Keith and Corey Keith (Brookee Payton); six great grandchildren, Peyton Keith, Alivia Mabrey, Mason Mabrey, Audrey Russell, Kayden Keith and Luke Russell; special friend, Pat McCombs and several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Carla Keith.

Interment will be in Lambert Cemetery.

James “Bob” Garrett, age 83, of Glasgow passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 in Bowling Green. He was born in Nortonville, KY to the late Luther Robert Garrett and the late Bertie Bell Yonts Garrett. Bob was married to Patricia Rose Garrett, who survives.  

He was a cattle farmer, a mechanic and body shop manager for Crown Buick and a member of the Barren County Cattlemens' Association. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert William Garrett  of Chicago, IL and Mark Allen Garrett (Alicia) of Manteno, IL; one grandson, Mitchell Garrett of Chicago, IL; one brother, Luther “Junior” Garrett (Carol) of Hickory Hills, IL; three sisters, Pauline Lufkin of Idaho, Joyce Hendrix of Palos Hill, IL, Betty Wooten (Ray) of Park City and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and  two sisters, Lorraine Madsen and Lois Wells.

Interment will be in Woodland Church Cemetery.

​Ellen Laverne Vincent Pelfrey, 79, of Brownsville passed away at 5:15 AM Sept. 15, 2017 at her home.
 
The Edmonson County native was a retired factory worker, a member of the apostolic church and attended Red Hill General Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Eugene Vincent and Hattie Mae Kinser Vincent and the wife of the late Charles "Doc" Pelfrey. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Elam; four brothers, Ervin Vincent, Clifton Vincent, Landon Vincent and Lennie Vincent; and a sister, Christine Mattingly.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Doyle Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 PM Sunday and after 9:00 AM Monday.
 
Surviving are a son, James "Bud" Elam (Rose) of Brownsville; two sisters, Evelyn Sanders of Bee Spring and Betty Sweeny of Mt. Washington; a brother, Trenton Vincent (Emma) of Shepherdsville; and five grandchildren.

​Otis Dell “O. D.” Page, 68, of Brownsville, KY died Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Medical Center at Bowling Green.  Born in Martin County, KY he was the son of the late Otis and Nell Clifton Page.
 
Survivors include 2 daughters Amy Page Horton (Charles) of Smiths Grove, KY and Amanda Page of Indiana; 2 sons Harley Page (Brandi) of Indiana and Christopher Page (Amy) of Arizona; 7 grandchildren Andrew, Daniel and Samuel Horton, Chloe, Olsen, Cooper and Owen Page.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Danny Ray Page.
 
Mr. Page chose cremation and no services are scheduled at this time.  A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  

Born April 18, 1936 as the only child of Luther Everett and Laura Ethel Spainhoward, it is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the family of Mary Helen (Spainhoward) Smiley announces her passing on Sunday September 10, 2017 at the age of 81 years.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Diana Smiley –Pierce and son Otto Dwight Smiley Jr. (Sharon), also son-in-law Mike Bauer (Cathy). Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Lauren Rayborn (Gary), Brent Justin Bauer (Lindsey), Suzanna Michelle North (Mike), Brandon Matthew Smiley( Kaitlyn), Albert Eric William North (Missy), Deborah Mary North and Sarah Elizabeth Pierce (Daniel). Seven great-grandchildren, Cameron Rayborn, Abigail Fox, Colten Smiley, Kaylie North, Mason North, Michael Bauer and Amelia Fox. Sister-in-law Shirley Smiley Bruggenschmidt (Paul),aunts Anna Davis, Libbie Davis and Landis Carden. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Mary was preceded in death by her father Luther Everet Spainhoward, her mother Laura Ethel Davis-Spainhoward, her daughter Deborah Lynn Smiley- Bauer, brothers James E. Patterson and Wayne Spainhoward, Mary was also preceded by her loving devoted husband Otto Dwight Smiley Sr. whom she married in 1953 and spent 44 happily married years together before his passing.

Together they owned and operated Standard Typewriter & Supply Company. She also volunteered for VITA at Sun Valley during tax season, was a Ky. Colonel, PRP Women’s Club, Tathia Dr. Women’s Club and Arhens Alumni Association and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 151.

Her funeral will be 11 am Thursday at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Hwy, with burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be 1 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday and 9 am until funeral service on Thursday.

Haskell Hardin, 79, of Roundhill passed away at 1:30 AM Sept. 6, 2017 at his home.
 
The Edmonson County native was a retired painter and drywaller and was a member of New Home General Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Sylvester Hardin and Elva Vincent Hardin and the husband of the late Norma Jean Reynolds Hardin. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Hardin.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in New Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 PM Friday, 9 AM-9 PM Saturday and after 9 AM Sunday.
 
Surviving are three daughters, Sandy Woosley (James), Kathy Elmore (Johnny) and Regina Carroll (Mike Sowders) all of Roundhill; three sisters, Pauline Clark and Daphene Phelps both of Roundhill and Mapha Jean White (Seward) of Nashville, IN; a brother, Duval Hardin (Judie) of Roundhill; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Elmore, Nick Carroll, Shannon Ravencraft, Derek Sowders, Stephanie Meredith, Amy Sowders, Mary Woosley, Travis Elmore, Whitney Durbin, Tyler Carroll, and Dylan Elmore; 24 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

​George V. Baulch, age 72, formerly of Park City and Glasgow, KY passed away on Monday night, September 4, 2017 at Claiborne and Hughes Nursing Home in Franklin, TN. He was born in Lewisburg, TN and was the son of the late Ernest F. and Nelle V. Baulch.

He enjoyed studying history, an avid UK basketball fan and a member of Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by three cousins, Barbara Duvall (Floyd) of Hendersonville, TN, Sarah McGinley (Jim) of Franklin, TN and Howard Baulch (Sally) of Dublin, OH. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Col E.F. Baulch, USMC.

Betty was a retired seamstress and a member of New Home General Baptist Church.

​Bobby Bilbrey, age 73,of Park City, KY passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017 in Bowling Green. The Smith County, TN native was born on October 24, 1943 to the late J.H. and Mindy Bilbrey. He was married to Nelda Norris Bilbrey, who survives.

Bobby was a former employee of Hawkins Upholstery; a guitarist for Turner Family gospel singers and a member of Plum Springs Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Devin Malone of Rocky Hill, Bobby Bilbrey, Jr. (Vicky) and Randell Bilbrey (Sandra) both of Glasgow; one daughter, Teresa Martin (Jimmy) of Park City; two brothers; four sisters; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

​Joyce Meredith, age 70 of Mammoth Cave, departed this life on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. The Switzerland County, IN native was born on August 14, 1947 to the late Kirby V. and Laura Belle Osborn Dixon. She was married to late Melvin Meredith.

Joyce was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She leaves to honor her memory-- two sons, Michael Rutter (fiancé Kara) and Carl Rutter (Lisa) of both of Floyds Knobs, IN.; three stepdaughters, Deborah Garrett (Johnny) of Shepherdsville, Tammy McCain (Bill) and Felishia Reavis (Steve) both of Louisville; one stepson, Quinn Meredith (Donna) of Mt. Washington; six sisters, Amy Lush, Lettie Wilson, Etta Royce (Calvin), Vonna Haines (Lewis), Evelyn Rose (Jerry) and Carolyn Altepeter; three brothers, Harold Dixon (Rae), Keith Dixon (Diane) and Gerald Dixon (Billie); fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
