Danny Spainhoward, age 82 of Sweeden, KY departed this life on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at his son’s residence. The Edmonson County native was born on April 2, 1940 to the late Rev. Norman and Flora Lindsey Spainhoward. He was married to his devoted wife of thirty-two years, Brenda Kaye Johnson Spainhoward, who also preceded him in death in 1990.
Danny was saved as a young man, and was the first of his family to join Brownsville General Baptist Church, where he remained a member until his passing. Danny retired after working many years in the maintenance department at American Sunroof Company. Prior to that, he had worked for Brownsville Garment Company and Firestone. The Edmonson County native was a minister, a member of Green Hills Church of Christ, served as speaker for the Herald of Truth television series from 1971 through 1992, dean of Harding School of Theology in Memphis 1972-86, president of Lipscomb University in Nashville 1986-97, after which he served as chancellor and president emeritis at Lipscomb. He was a son of the late Herbert Hazelip and Maggie Ferguson Hazelip. He was preceded in death by nine siblings, Lawrence Hazelip, Raymond Hazelip, Woodrow Hazelip, Edna Lewis, Ruth Duvall, Charlotte Willison, Marie Hazelip, Eva Douglas and an infant brother. A public memorial service was hosted by Green Hills Church of Christ on Saturday. Private services were held Sunday at Gravil Funeral Home. Burial took place in New Liberty Cemetery. Freda had a true servant’s heart, and enjoyed giving her time to help others. While she lived in the ‘country’, she was actively involved with the Edmonson County Homemakers, as well as serving from the kitchen at church. While driving across the Arizona desert, Tom found the Lord and was saved in his semi truck. He came back home to Kentucky, proclaimed what the Lord had done for him and united himself with Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful member until his passing. The Warren County native was a repossession agent. He was a son of the late J.R. Netherton and Janie Crain Netherton of Bowling Green, who survives. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Anneta United Baptist Church, where he was a member, with burial to follow in John Stevenson Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM Wednesday at the church. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Also surviving are a brother, Allen Crain (Ginger) of Clarkson; a sister, Linda Wood (Tommy) of Sadler; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Reverend Billy Duke Campbell, 89, of Louisville passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022.
Billy was born November 3, 1932 in Brownsville, KY. to his late parents Robert and Marie (Lindsey) Campbell. He is also preceded in death by his four sisters, Ruth, Leona, Eva and Georgia; three brothers, Ray, Ben, and Howell. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force during Korea and retired from the Enro Shirt Company. He was a member of Campbells United Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 63 years Pamela (Maynard) Campbell; three children, Cynthia Campbell, Jackie Baumgardner and Robert Campbell; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
