Joyce Duvall Goins, age 86

Joyce Duvall Goins, age 86 of Bee Spring, departed this life on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Edmonson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Brownsville. The Edmonson County native was born on November 6, 1938 to the late Lester and Nannie Saltsman Duvall. She was married to her loving husband, Troy Goins, until they were parted by his passing on September 27, 2020.

Joyce dedicated her life to one of the most challenging yet rewarding jobs—being a homemaker and devoted caretaker for her beloved family. She tended to her flourishing garden, skillfully canned vegetables, worked tirelessly alongside her family on their farm, and embraced her family with unwavering love. Most importantly, she was a member of Jock United Baptist Church, a place she truly cherished.

She leaves to honor her memory— her children, Denis Goins (Rose Mary), Lavonda Wingfield, Dewayne Goins and Eric Goins all of Bee Spring; seven grandchildren, Paul Goins (Whitney), Kyle Goins (Lauren), Beth Wink (Matt), Andy Goins (Brooke), Sarah Dennis (Nathan), Justin Goins (Kasey) and Seth Wingfield; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Jane LoChirco (Sam), Anthony Duvall (Bertie), Tim Duvall (Mary Lou), Tootsie Meredith (Ray) and Milan Duvall, along with nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was also preceded in death by her son, J.W. Goins.

Mildred Marie Tinsley Grinstead, 92

Mildred Marie Tinsley Grinstead, 92 of Brownsville, KY passed away peacefully, while surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green.

She was a daughter of the late Youree and Bertha Trowbridge Tinsley and was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Otis Eugene Grinstead who passed away in 2017.

Mildred never met a stranger and was a friend to many. Her favorite pastime was coloring and crocheting. To know Mildred was to love her. She was a wonderful homemaker and cherished her time caring for children in her own home. She was a dedicated and long-standing member of Martinsville Baptist Church.

She is survived by her four daughters, Wanda Olson (Rod), Maretta Vincent (Noah), Judy Pilkenton (Tommy) and Lisa Liggett (Bechara Azzi); nine grandchildren, Brandon Carroll, Shannon White (Dave), Jason Wilson (Michele), Ashley Kinser, Scott Pilkenton (Lisa), Tonya McWilliams (Andrew), Krystal Garner (Jay), Katelyn Franklyn (Chris) and Trevor Liggett; fourteen great grandchildren, Brianna, Lindsey, Andrew, Emily, Chance, Annie, Emily, Kaden, Memphis, Lanie, Ty, Kali, Brayden and Mack; four great-great grandchildren, Carter, Colby, Hudson and Bennett.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hosparus for their loving care and attention. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hosparus.

Funeral Services will be at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Bro. Jimmy Carroll, who remains a cherished member of the family. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, September 29, at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home.

Additional visitation will be on Tuesday, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at  the funeral home.

Roy Dennis Poteet, age 78 of Brownsville, departed this life on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on December 21, 1946 to the late Joseph Melvage and Nina Lindsey Poteet. He was married to his loving wife, Rita Logsdon Poteet, until they were parted by her passing on October 14, 2015.

Dennis enjoyed a long and fulfilling career, retiring as a house technician from TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly smile. In earlier years, he also served the community as an EMT with the Edmonson County Ambulance Service, always willing to lend a helping hand in times of need. Always hardworking and versatile, he also put his talents to use as a painter on the side, a trade that reflected his patience and eye for detail. Beyond his work, Dennis found fellowship and faith as a member of Midway United Missionary Baptist Church.

He leaves to honor his memory— his son, John Christopher Poteet (Shae) of Brownsville; granddaughter, Haley Poteet; two step-grandchildren, Hannah Grace and Ella Rickard, and his sister, Billie Ann McDougle. Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Melvage Poteet, Jr. and Gerald Ray Poteet.

Johnny Madison, age 82

Johnny Madison, age 82 of Rocky Hill, departed this life on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on December 1, 1942 to the late Leon and Floye Muriel “Toge” Madison. He was married to his devoted wife and the loving mother of his children, Darlene Elizabeth Madison, until they were parted too soon by her passing. He then united himself with his wife, Linda Beckner Madison, who survives.

Johnny retired after dedicating many years to the Kentucky Department of Highways. He was a proud member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church and the Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he was eager to help the community and anyone in need. In his younger years, Johnny worked on the family farm and found great joy in showing horses. His greatest attribute was his warm smile! He never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He would often spend hours sitting on his front porch, waving to all his friends, neighbors and even strangers that passed by. Many affectionately called him the “Mayor of the Crossroads”.

Besides his wife, Linda, he leaves to honor his memory— his beloved children, Tim Madison (Kay) of Bowling Green and Tiffany Pickle (Robert) of Houston, TX, and his grandchildren, Amber Madison, Jenna Pickle and Averi Pickle, along with a host of friends and extended family members.

Barbara Ann Clark, age 77 of Louisville, departed this life on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. The Edmonson County native was born on June 26, 1948 to the late Dewey Paul and Hazel Vincent Lashley. She was married to her devoted husband, James E. “Jimmy” Clark, Sr., until they were parted by his passing.

Barbara devoted her life to nurturing her family, creating a loving and supportive home as a dedicated homemaker. She was a cherished member of Poplar Spring United Baptist Church, where her faith and kindness touched those around her. In her moments of rest, Barbara found joy in the pages of a good book, the timeless stories of western films, and friendly games on her iPad, embracing each day with warmth, curiosity, and a caring spirit.

She leaves to honor her memory— her son, James E. Clark, Jr. (Kathleen) of Canmer; grandchildren, Kimberly Rhodes (Brandy), Therissie Clark (Tyler Hobbs), Sarah Clark (Brandon Burdsall), Zander, Logan, Aydan and Lillian Clark; great-grandchildren, Killian and Liam Burdsall and her brother, Garry Lashley (Susan). Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her infant sisters, Linda, Vickie and Betty Lashley.

Paula Ann Claycomb, 69, of Mammoth Cave passed away Sept. 20, 2025 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
 
The Edmonson County native was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Rivendell Behavioral Hospital, a former member of Chapter 574 Order of Eastern Star in Cub Run, a 1973 graduate of Edmonson County High School and a member of Cove Hollow United Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late James Lewis Claycomb and Helen Elizabeth Jaggers Brewer of Brownsville, who survives. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Samson Pardue.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Cove Hollow United Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM Tuesday at the church and will continue until the start of the funeral service.
 
Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Clifton Pardue (Anita) and Clayton Pardue (Erika) both of Mammoth Cave; two brothers, Jason Claycomb (Terry) of Auburn and Scott Claycomb (Sabina) of Cynthiana; and six grandchildren, Makenzi Pardue, Maci Pardue, Mason Pardue, Maggie Pardue, Max Pardue and Mariah Pardue.

Charles “Charlie” Meredith, 81

Charles “Charlie” Meredith, 81, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky on September 15, 2025. Born May 4, 1944, in Edmonson County, Kentucky, to the late Momen and Dorothy Meredith. Charlie lived a life anchored in family, friends, hard work, and quiet excellence.

Charlie married his best friend and lifelong love, Darlene Meredith, and together they walked hand-in-hand for 59 years. He was saved at Shadyland Church of Christ, where he was a member for several years.

For 39 years, Charles worked at Holley, building a life defined by hard work. He later became the proud owner of Meredith’s Collectibles, sharing his love for antiques and collectibles. Charlie was a US Army Veteran and a KY Colonel.

A true legend on the horseshoe courts at state and world levels, Charlie was an avid horseshoe pitcher and an 11-time Kentucky Men’s State Horseshoe Pitching Champion- a record that stands as a testament to his dedication and skill. He was respected not only for his talent, but for his sportsmanship, mentorship, and generosity toward others. He put family above everything and made time for anyone who needed him.

He leaves to honor his memory his loving wife, Darlene; two sons, Michael Meredith (Michelle Hunt) and Ronnie Meredith (Karen), all of Bowling Green; two brothers Bennie Meredith of Bowling Green and Harvey Meredith (Joyce) of Alvaton; and one sister, Patsy Halvorson (Jerry) of Bowling Green, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Momen and Dorothy and sister Brenda Carol Meredith.

Per Charlie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. He wanted to be remembered by the impact he had on the lives of his friends and family- the handshakes on the courts, the encouragement in hard times, the example of a life well lived.

Rhonda Cummings Meredith, 69

Rhonda Cummings Meredith, a beloved wife, mother, grammy, sister, aunt and friend, departed this life on Monday, September 15, 2025 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. Born on August 30, 1956, Rhonda grew up in Edmonson County with her parents, Johnny and Marcella Haycraft Cummings, where she spent her life illuminating the lives of those around her with her radiant smile and generous spirit. For forty-six wonderful years, she shared her life with her high school sweetheart and loving husband, Gary N. Meredith.

For many years, Rhonda served as the Human Resources Officer for the Bank of Edmonson County. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her commitment to helping others. Rhonda was known for her selflessness, always ready to lend a hand to those in need, often going out of her way to ensure that others felt valued and supported. It is this warmth and kindness that endeared her to colleagues and customers alike, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a dedicated member of Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church, she lived out her beliefs daily. At one time, Rhonda taught Sunday School and was the church pianist, where she shared her musical gifts with all those who had the pleasure of hearing her play.

Rhonda's life was a tapestry of kindness, faith, and dedication. In her spare time, she loved cheering on the Chicago Cubs, spending peaceful days at the beach, and expressing her creativity through cross-stitching. Her greatest joy, however, was found in her family—especially her beloved son and grandson. As her son played and later coached basketball, she proudly stood as his biggest supporter, a passion she joyfully passed on to her treasured grandson. She was a constant reminder that even in the simplest acts of compassion, one can create extraordinary ripple effects in the lives of others. Her legacy will be cherished by all who had the fortune to cross paths with her

Besides her husband, Gary, she leaves to honor her memory— her son, Brett Meredith (Heather) of Bee Spring; grandson, Jackson Bley Meredith; siblings, David Cummings (Sheila) of Bowling Green and Donna Martin (Porter) of Smiths Grove; sisters-in-law, Jill Meredith and Vicki Meredith, along with several nieces and nephews who will always cherish her memory.

The Edmonson County native was a homemaker, a Fruit of the Loom employee, co-owner of Fashion Cleaners in Bowling Green and a member of United Calvary Baptist Church in Bowling Green. She was a daughter of the late Luster “Lus” White and Verda Alice Miller White and the wife of the late James Richard Mercer. She was preceded in death by a son, Harry Alan Mercer; a daughter, Melissa Susan Mercer; two brothers, Avery White and Jack White; and a sister, Genevieve Ausbrooks.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will take place 2:00-7:00 PM Friday and after 9:00 AM Saturday.

Myra Geraldine Ashley Madison, 97, of Lindseyville passed away peacefully with family by her side at Shanti Niketan Hospice House in Glasgow.
 
The Edmonson County native was a 1943 graduate of Kyrock High School where she was a cheerleader and basketball player, a homemaker, a former member of the Edmonson Co. Public Library Board; a former member of the Edmonson Center Board; a former homemakers club member and a member of Midway United Missionary Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Ewing G. Ashley and Ruth Ellen Lindsey Ashley and the wife of the late Holman T. Madison. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Granville Ashley, David Ashley and Mark Ashley and two sisters, Evelyn Knox and Isabelle Vincent.
 
A life lived so fully is hard to put into a few sentences, but here are a few other noteworthy facts about Geraldine. Besides her faith, her family was always her No. 1 priority. She lived all but 3 years of her life in Lindseyville, and while away, she longed to be back home with family. As a high school student during World War II, she worked with some of her classmates who rode a bus to Bowling Green to make radio tubes to help with the war effort.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Midway United Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place 4:00-7:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home and after 9:00 AM Friday at the church.

Timothy E. Hume, age 70

Timothy E. Hume, age 70 of Sweeden, departed this life on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Jefferson County native was born on May 8, 1955 to the late Ida Prunty Hume and Cecil Sherman Hume, Sr. He spent his adult years enjoying the family farm in Sweeden.

Timothy dedicated his life to serving others, beginning his career as a committed member of the Shelbyville Fire Department and a valued Edmonson County Deputy Sheriff. During this time, he demonstrated courage and leadership, joining the U.S. Deputy Sheriff’s Association in pursuit of excellence. He was honored to serve as the past Master Councilor of the Buechel Chapter Order of DeMolay and as the past Illustrious Knight Commander of the C. Frye Haley Memorial Priory, earning the distinguished DeMolay Cross of Honor. As a member of Lone Hill United Baptist Church, Timothy lived his faith through service and kindness. Beyond his achievements, he found inspiration and peace in the outdoors, where he cherished time spent hunting, fishing, and fully embracing the beauty of nature and the joy of life's simple moments.

He leaves to honor his memory— his siblings, Bobby “Bo” Hume of Nashville, TN and Angela Hume Rowden of Bowling Green, along with his special friends, Michael and Baretta Casey, M.D. of Sweeden and Branden Souders of Brownsville. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Mike Chambers, Debbie Freitas, Jimmy Chambers and Terry Hume.

Brittney Marie Harper, age 35, of Park City, departed this life on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at her residence. She was born on February 8, 1990 in San Antonio, Texas to Kirby and Shari King Harper, who survive. 

Brittney was a radiant free spirit whose creativity touched everyone around her. With a passion for cooking, she pursued culinary classes and delighted friends and guests alike with her incredible dishes at Esters Farm Cafe and Catering and Hungry Hut Concessions. Brittney found joy and peace in the great outdoors, whether she was paddling across calm waters in her kayak or casting a line while fishing. Her impressive collection of Case knives reflected her appreciation for craftsmanship and adventure. Brittney’s warmth, kindness, and faith were evident through her membership at Park City Baptist Church, where she inspired others with her generous heart. Her greatest title was being a mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend to those she loved most.

Besides her parents, Kirby and Shari, she leaves to honor her memory— her children, Kirbie and Chase Bonnema, both of Park City; her brother, Todd Harper (Kendra) of Glasgow; uncles, Greg King (Chrisn), Robbie Harper (Lenora) and Tim Harper (Janet), along with several cousins, extended family members and a host of friends that will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Eva King, Glenn Harper and Laverne Gardner and her uncle, Bobby King.

The Edmonson County native was a farmer and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a son of the late Elisha Thomas “Lishe” Duvall and Maggie Lashley Duvall and the husband of the late Linda Rose Grant Duvall. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ben Owens; four sisters, Liz, Nannie, Gertie and Alma; and three brothers, Dallas, Paul and Sherman.
 
Funeral mass will be held at 5:00 PM Sunday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Visitation will take place 1:00-7:00 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home. Rosary service will be held at 6:00 PM Saturday.

Charles Leon “Butch” Webb, age 67 of Alvaton, departed this life on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Edmonson County native was born on November 21, 1957 to the late Charles L. and Frances Tunks Webb. He was married to his devoted wife of forty-two years, Pam Renfro Webb, who survives.

Butch dedicated more than forty-five years of his life to the demanding and honorable work of coal mining and operating heavy equipment for Vulcan Materials. His unwavering commitment and work ethic were a testament to his character and resilience. He was a member of Beaver Dam United Baptist Church, where he once served as the Sunday School Superintendent. Outside of work, Butch found joy and peace in tending to his garden, fishing, and marveling at the wonders of construction through YouTube videos. Above all, Butch's greatest pride was his family, whom he loved deeply and supported wholeheartedly.

Besides his wife, Pam, he leaves to honor his memory—his sons, Austin Webb (Jayla) of Owensboro and Jeremy Webb (Amanda) of Brownsville; two grandsons, Parker and Clayton Webb; siblings, Sharon Luttrell (Jim) of Brownsville, Jo Stewart (Wayne) and Guy Walter “George” Webb (Regina) all of Sweeden; mother-in-law, Judy Houchin Renfro of Brownsville, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was married to her husband of over sixty years, Kenneth Hodge, until they were parted by his passing on September 9, 2014.

Geneva devoted herself to her family as a dedicated housewife, always ensuring her loved ones were nurtured and well cared for. She was a cherished member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where she built lasting friendships. In her spare time, Geneva found joy in tending to her beautiful flower garden, which reflected her caring and loving nature.

She leaves to honor her memory— her sons, Rickie Hodge of Bowling Green and Mike Hodge (Sheila) of Merry Oaks; three grandchildren, Chris Hodge (Crystal), Kelly Hodge (Jaime) and Robin Kidwell (Roger); four great-grandchildren, Josh Hodge, Bradley Kidwell, Charity Kidwell and Kayla Hodge; step-grandchildren, Daulton Brummitt and Blaine Mooneyhan; her beloved fur baby, Tiger, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she also was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Richard and Pat Emerson and Charlene and Bud Klusmeier.

The interment will be in Merry Oaks Cemetery.

Evelyn Cowles Watt (Granny) was 96 years old when she departed this present world on August 30, 2025 surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Evelyn was born November 10, 1928, in the community of Boiling Springs Kentucky. She was born to the late James Hobert Cowles and Minnie Pennington Cowles She was the seventh child born into a family of eleven children in which ten of them have preceded her in death: Ambrose, Ralph, W.V., Alvie, Nellie, Alice, Mildred, Margie, Murlene and Paul.

Evelyn was married to the late Archie Floyd Watt (Pete) January 12, 1952. They had six children, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren from their blessed union. Pete preceded her in death on Christmas Eve 1993.

Evelyn dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and died a devoted Christian. She was a member of the Boiling Springs Church of Christ. She loved to talk about the Bible. Christ was number one in her life, and she seldom missed assembling with the church.

Evelyn tended to the family farm with her husband and continued after his passing. They grew a garden and raised tobacco and corn. She would cut and rake hay. She feed and kept watch over the cattle and has been knocked down by steers. She also wrecked anything she drove on the farm, at some time or another, and that is why she never had a driver’s license. She loved to babysit her grandchildren and took them out with her farming.

Evelyn leaves behind to cherish her loving memory six children. Sandra Arlene (Rollie) Floyd (Belinda) Cary (Janis) Jeffery (Gale) Joey, David (Anissa). Thirteen grandchildren Holly, Phillip, Melissa, Timmy, Kristina, Amanda, Justin, Amy, Chad, Ariel, Avery, Joshua, Joseph. Also, all of those great and great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was loved by all and will be missed greatly by all that knew her. Now the 3rd pew at Boiling Springs Church of Christ where Evelyn, Margie, W.V., and Georgia sat every Sunday is now empty.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel with burial in Shady Land Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Joe Carl Daugherty, age 68 of Cedar Springs, was surrounded by his family when he peacefully departed this life on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on August 26, 1957 to JoAnn Beckner Daugherty and the late Carl Preston Daugherty. He was married to his loving and devoted wife of thirty-five years, Joan Wells Daugherty, until she was called to her eternal home on May 18, 2014.

Joe Carl dedicated many years of his life as a heavy equipment operator, most recently for Sliger Excavating. He served as Edmonson County District 3 Constable since 1999 and was a proud member of the Kentucky Constable Association, always eager to lend a helping hand. Joe Carl’s strong commitment to his community was also reflected through his membership in the Oakland Masonic Lodge #563 F&AM; the Rocky Hill VFD, where he was president of the board; the Brownsville Order of Eastern Star, and the Cedar Springs United Baptist Church—a place he cherished deeply. In years past, he also served as deputy jailer and animal control officer for Edmonson County. Joe Carl never met a stranger; he brought joy to every room, especially when sharing stories and laughter at Porky Pig Diner. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering friendliness touched everyone he met, inspiring those around him to do the same.

Besides his mother, JoAnn, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Jennifer Daugherty (Jon) of Smiths Grove, Joe Carl W. “J.C.” Daugherty (Brittany) of Cedar Springs and Justina Pedigo (Josh) of Bowling Green; six grandchildren, Jaxson Daugherty, Ace Daugherty, Jaycee Daugherty, Grayson Gibson, Kaleb Vibbert and Linkin Pedigo; sister, Alta Sanders (Robbie) of Cave City; brother-in-law, David Prather of Rocky Hill, along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Bradley Allen Daugherty and Beverly Prather.

The interment will be in Lambert Cemetery.
