Mendell O. Parker, 93, of Roundhill passed away Oct. 29, 2022 at his granddaughter’s home in Green County.
The Edmonson County native was a retired shipping and receiving clerk for Reynolds Aluminum, an ordained minister, and a US Army Korean War veteran. He was a son of the late Dio Balaam Parker and nannie Bell Slaughter Parker and the husband of the late Versie Seabolt Parker. He was preceded in death by a son, Todd Parker; a granddaughter, Felicia Parker; five brothers, Delbert, Auldon, Vollie, Rayburn, and Dio Balaam Parker Jr.; and four sisters, Cleo Priddy, Estelyne Kinser, Willodean Xanthopoulos, and Carmeleda Wingfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Mount Zion United Baptist Church, where he was a member, with burial to follow in Hawkins Cemetery. Visitation will take place 3-7 PM Monday and 10:00 AM-7:00 PM Tuesday at Gravil Funeral Home and after 10:00 AM Wednesday at the church. Surviving are two sons, Mickey Parker of Roundhill and Terry Parker (Gerri) of Clarkson; a daughter, Veronica Parker of Campbellsville; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Parker of Brownsville; nine grandchildren, Mickey J. Parker, Jillian Riker, Timmy Parker, Melissa G. Logsdon, Jason Grimes, Chasity Penick, David Parker, Chris Parker and Versie Parker; 21 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. Norma Wilson, 83, of Louisville passed away at 3:14 PM Oct. 27, 2022 at Essex Nursing & Rehab in Louisville.
The Edmonson County native was a retired beautician and a member of Wingfield United Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Raz Alford and Velma Bullock Alford and the wife of the late Donald Wilson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mable Jane Tracy and two brothers, Ronell Alford and Lynn Joseph Phelps. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Sunday at Fairview Cemetery. Pearl Jean Haynes, 78, of Brownsville passed away Oct. 22, 2022 in Leitchfield.
The Edmonson County native was a homemaker and a former employee of Plastikon. She was a daughter of the late Dewey Childress and Ola Glass Childress and the wife of the late Robert Haynes. She was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Avery and a brother, Tony Childress. Richard D. Jones, age 75 of Brownsville, KY departed this life on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. The Allen County native was born on April 7, 1947 to the late Lured Denton Jones and Mary Virginia Richey Jones. He was married to his wife of 52 years, Delores Jones, who survives.
Richard served our nation in the U.S. Army and fought in the Vietnam War. When he was discharged, he started working at Firestone, where he met his wife. He later worked as a supervisor for Commercial Carriers, transporting corvettes for General Motors. Afterwards, he became a clerk for the United States Postal Service, and served there for 16 years. He was a member of the Washington Meredith Masonic Lodge #355 F&AM, Wand B. Doyle DAV, Nesbit Alexander Memorial Post #6937 VFW, Order of Eastern Star #577 and a member of Woodmen Life 296. He was also a member and a deacon of Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Besides his wife, Delores, he leaves to honor his memory— a son, Richie D. Jones (Becky) of Pig; a grandson, which was his pride and joy, Gauge Denton Jones; and two brothers, Paul Atwood, Jr. (Debbie) of Scottsville and Buddy D. Jones (Paula) of Midlothian, TX. James L. “Jimmy” Meredith, age 91 departed this life on Friday, October 7, 2022 at his residence. Jimmy was an insurance agent with Mutual of Omaha and received multiple awards honoring him for being the top national salesman in the United States. He was the President of the Mutual of Omaha National President’s Club, and was a member of the Mutual of Omaha Honors and Builders Clubs. He was the founder of the Optimist Club in Edmonson County, and a proud former Kyrock Blackhawk basketball and baseball player. He served our nation in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era. Jimmy enjoyed singing and was known for his beautiful tenor voice with the Lindseyville Quartet. He was a member, deacon and former treasurer of Midway United Missionary Baptist Church, which was his greatest joy. He leaves to honor his memory— three children, Regina Webb (Brent) of Bowling Green, Stephen Meredith and Cliff Meredith both of Lindseyville; three grandchildren, Brian Webb (Angie), Meredith Thornton (Ben), and Jordan Renick (David) all of Bowling Green; eight great-grandchildren, Broderick Farley, Ben and Blake Webb, Cade and Ainsley Thornton, Nash, Beau and Harper Renick, and one brother, Donald Ray Meredith. She was a daughter of the late Everett Prewitt and Petunia Lee Bullock Prewitt. She was preceded in death by a brother, Monty Prewitt and a granddaughter, Lexus Massey Wilson. Steve Allen Perry, better known as “Fuzzy”, age 71, of Cave City departed this life on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. The Indianapolis, Indiana native was born on December 27, 1950 to the late Marion Clarence and Opal Carlyle Perry. He was married to Carol Harrison Perry, who also preceded him in death.
Fuzzy managed several properties around Cave City and also loved recycling metal. He served as a member of the Cave City Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He worked endless hours in renovating the new Patton Funeral Home Cave City Chapel, and was so proud of the new addition to the community. He was a member of the Heartland General Baptist Church. He leaves to honor his memory— a sister, Linda Moore (Bruce) of Greenwood, IN; a special friend, that he considered a daughter, Beth Hayes of Cave City; grandchildren, Sara Hayes, Clayton, Colton and Waylon Winchester; a dear friend, Jonathan Wood (Megan) of Cave City along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and a host of friends.
